The trustees revlew the olms, oblective5 and actlvltles of the Charlty each year. Thls report looks at what the charlty
has achieved and the outcomes of Its work in the reportln6 perlod. The trustees report the success of each key activity
and the benefit5 the chaflty has brou8ht to those 8roups of people that It Is set up to help. The re￿eW also helps the
trustees ertsure the charlty's alms, objectives and act￿ltieS remalned focused on Its stated purposes.

ACTNIYIES
The charity provldes a wlde range support ser￿ce to people INlng in Mld and North Essex. The focus of these servl¢es
is low level intervention, althou8h we do a150 dellver cllnlcal 5ervkes in conjunction with other provlders. All of these
servlce5 were free to access durlng thls financlal year aslde from the fee p4yln8 ¢ounsellln8 servlce.
The charlty holds varlous contracts from funder5 aCTOSS the localltles Includlng North East Essex ainlcal
Commissionlrq Group, Essex County Council, Mld and South Essex ainlcal Commlssloning Group and also holds
various grants from 8rant 8ivin8 bodie5.
The servlces are normally delivered between Monday - Friday each worklng week. However, we Introduced Crls15
Cafés which operate out of hours providing support to thos? in crisis and reduclng the pressures on A&E departments.
Thls approach has helped in providing a more r¢bust framework of care and supports the ststutory provlders In the
work they do.
Murh work has gone Into developlng the or8anisatlons three-year business Flan. which Is now moving ahead. The
development of the plan included staff feedback, Se￿Ce user comment5 and the wlder comrnunity along with other
provider5. This has led to the charity revlewin8 many areas of its work. 8ap5 in carel5UPPOrt and how it will manage
demand following COVID-19.

MHST, that work wlthln schools and colle8es across North Essex.
Durlng the first pirl of the ftnanclal period, we dld see a contlnued decrease In rèferrals due to COVIO-19, which
resulted In a slow uptake and Ilmlted referrals. Th15 changed towards the end of the finandal perlod and referral rates
have started to In¢rea5e a8aln.

wlthln the locallty offerfn8 free bespoke awareness tralnln& The focus In on Work colleague's wellbeing and Is open to
all staff worklng wlthin GP piactlces.

STRATEGIC REPORT
FINANaAL REVIEW
The flnanclal year 2021122 was challen8in8 due to the ongoin8 problems caused by the COVID pandemlG 5tsff a8aln
havlng to work from home for lon8 period5. It tontinued to be difficult to recrult to our vacant P05ts. Staff once agaln
took ort the addltlonal work enablln8 LIS to fulfil our many contracts. We thank them for their hard work and
dedicatlon.
Our Fundralslng team had to conslder dlfferent ways of raisln8 Income and mana8ed to ralse £111,574 from
donatlons. almost double the prevlous year and a further £86,922 from 8rants, a very good performance In the
clrcumstances.
Our HR team trled different recrultment methods resultlng In many of the vacant posts bein8 filled bul we ¢ontlnue to
Sèe relatlvety hi8h staff turnover and a ccn5iderable underspend a8alnst bl￿get on staff costs.
Overall Income Increased by £899.061 to £2,904A22 mainly due to our ongoSng contract5. Expendlture Increased by
£577,964 to £2,258,484 largely due to Increased staff c05t5 to Service these contracts, this would h3ve been
slgniflcantly hlgher had we been able to1111 all the vacant posts earlier in the year.
Our net assets Increased by £645,938 to £1897,957 leavin8 us In a very healthy financlal posltlon. The value of our
property accounted for £609,173 of thls sum.
Durlng the year we removed the prov151on of E41,071 for dllapidatlons followlng our declslon to vacate the property
we were rentln8 In Clacton at the end ol March 2019, as we felt that It would now be dlfflcult for a claim to be made,
due to the tlme that has elapsed slnce we vacated the property.
We have been ffinallsln8 our strate8y for the next 3 year$ and are able to Include some new serylce5, whl¢h wlll inltlallv
be funded from cur re5eNes. Thls 55 possible due to the Increase In our asset5 over the last 2 years. We therefore
expecl to see a reduction to our assets In the current flnanclal year.
We closely monltor our flnances,. to ensure we can contlnue to provtde servl¢es that wlll benefit the local ¢ommunlty
for many years to come.
INVESTMENT POLICY
The Trustees have dlscussed potential investments at length durln8 the year and declded to adopt a cautlo¢Js
approach as we do not wlsh to rlsk our a55et5. We agreed to look for interest Income and to dlvefsify our deposits $0
that we could take advantage of FSCS protectlon which 15 £85,OC4) per bank.
Havlng revlewed varlous optlons we opened èn account wlth Flagstone, a cash platform. offerln8 rates from
numerous b3nks. Inltially we dep051ted £275,Th)O and have recently agreed to add a further £190,000. We have 5pIIt
the funds between varlous banks with a maxlmum deposit of £85.000 to ensure we make the most of the FSCS
8uarantee. We agreed to keep the funds on short temi deposlts with a maxlmum of 18 months fixed. These deposlts
are regularly reviewed to ensure we ahways have acces5 to sufficlent fund5 to meet our everyday needs.
We contlnue to look at potentlal investment opporttJnille5 in tase we declde to ¢hange our pollcy ènd seèk Increased
returns.

£612,C(Q for Income volatlllty, ¢ontln8ency and uncertalnty, £150,iJ)O for unplanned or unexpected expenditure,
givlng £752,000 In total. These fund5 have been set aslde by the trustees as deslgnated funds, along wlth the net book
value ol our tanglble fixed assets.
In addltlon to our restrlcted ond des18nated funds, the charity has general funds of £944,000. These are retalned lor
further 5ervlce development and to nll the unmet need across the area.
The trustees have consldered the flnanclal position of the charlty, its investment portfollo, Its reserves, a5 well as Its
cash flow and Ilquid resources and they belleve the charity 15 able to manage Its buslness rlsks successfully. The￿ are
no materlal un￿rtaIntleS that may cast doubt on ihe charity's ablllty to tontlnue 35 a gclng concern. The trustees
have a reasonable expectatlon that is h35 adequète resources to contjnue In oPera￿Onal existence for the near futurè.
Therefore, they Continue to adopi lhe 8oln8 concern basls of a¢countln8 In preparlnB the annual financial statement5.
FUNDRAISING
Fundraislrg improved durln8 the perfod compared to the prevlous year, althou6h thls was stlll down wlth Ilttle
communlty acti￿lY taklng place and no events or challen8es. We successfully started the recruStment proces5
followln8 o re-structure and now developln8 a new 5trate8V.
The fundraislng team were sublett to Furlough leave, with thi5 bein8 the best way to Ilmit Costs whllst the department
was unable to functlon at lull potentlal. There wa5 an increase in Grant and Trust funthn6 with fund5. some of whlch
beln8 secured for a malor IT overhaul. enablin8 US to be able lo pro￿de up to date IT infrastructure. Thls allows us to
offer a variety of counselling options such as face to face, vldeo Ilnk and telephone servlces, all wlthln CoronavSrus
8uidellnes moving forward. Digital fundrai5in8 activStle5 however did increase, and It Is apparent that thls source of
fundralslng needs to be marketed ond explored more in the future.

Our ambitlon for Mid & North East Essex Mlnd over the next 3-year perlod Is to contlnue with the serylces we offer
and develop a new 3-year strategy as we are currently in our final year of ihe exSstin8 plan. We understand that Since
the pandemic everythlng has changed and that Impact5 on how we operate a5 a ¢h•rlty. Whlle we have key plans that
we want to dellver over ihe next 3-year period we wlll focus on dlgltal and how we can incorporate thls Into how we
work wlth the client 8roup allowln8 for cholce of servlce type.
Followlng the pandemlc, we are now seeln8 a demand for servlces In thelr entlrety. Thls Is evldenced above, and Its
though that we wlll continue to See demand and 8rowth over the next year. In addltlon, healthcare Is ¢han8ln8, and
thls brln8s a different set of challenges. As we move Into an integrated care system comm15s1onlng of servlce5 wlll
change. The bl88e5t ¢hallenge for us as a local charity is because we operate across two IC8s Imld & South Essex, &

The company partbclpates In the scheme, a multl-employer scheme whlch provldes beneflts to some 638
non-assoclated partlclpatln8 employers. The scheme Is a deflned benefit scheme In the UK. It Is not POS51ble
for the company to obtain sufllclent Infomation to enable it to account for the scheme as a defined benefit
scheme. Therefore It accounts for the scheme as a defined contrlbutlon scheme.
The scheme Is subject to the fundlng le8151atlon outlined In the Penslons Act 2004 whlch came into force on 30
December 2005. Thls, together wilh documents Issued by the Penslons Regulator and Technical Actuarlal
