## THE YOUTH CENTRE, CEFN HENGOED ANNUAL REPORT APRIL 2020-MARCH 2021 CHARITY NAME The Youth Centre, Cefn Hengoed REGISTRATION NO 1064236 CHARITY ADDRESS Hengoed Rd., Hengoed CF82 7LP TRUSTEE NAMES Judith Pritchard, Donna Cushing ## STRUCTURE AND MANAGEMENT The Charity has a constitution and is managed by a voluntary Management Committee. During 20-21 the Secretary was Donna Cushing and the Treasurer was Judith Pritchard. The Chair Diane Meredith sadly passed away and because of the Covid pandemic we were unable to appoint a replacement. Day-to-day running of the centre was carried out by Judith Pritchard. ACTIVITIES AND OBJECTIVES DURING THE YEAR The Centre was closed to users for the entire year except for the weekly Fareshare food distribution to local low-income families which was run by members of the PTA and a voluntary sector volunteer during the first lockdown period. Food bags were delivered to the recipients’ houses and the only people allowed into the building were the volunteers. The food distribution continued throughout the year with people returning to the centre to collect their bags during the latter part of the year. Statutory checks were carried out during the summer in readiness for re-opening but we were then hit by the second wave of the coronavirus in the autumn. No users returned to the centre in this financial year but the Council Job Club continued to pay the rent for their office. ## ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE However during the year we applied for and received grants of £24,000 in total from the Government’s Covid 19 NNDR fund which we put to very good use. We also obtained grant-funding from Gelligaer Community Council and the Welsh Church Fund administered by CCBC. The ceiling of one of the football changing rooms had been damaged by an on-going leak and the changing rooms themselves were in a very poor condition. We arranged for the roof to be refurbished with new felt and battens, the ceilings to be replaced , walls insulated and new tiles to be laid on the floor. The loft was also insulated and minor repairs and improvements carried out. This all required considerable time spent on organisation and supervision but we were pleased that the year had not been wasted and that we had provided work and an income to a number of local people in the building trade during the Covid outbreak. In addition we obtained grant funding through GAVO to pay the delivery charges levied by Fareshare so we did not have to recover the money from the food bag recipients during the pandemic.
