**Objects:** TO FOSTER THE COLLECTION, PRESERVATION, STUDY AND PUBLICATION IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST OF MATERIAL RELATING TO THE MARTINEAU FAMILY OF NORWICH IN THE 19TH CENTURY AND THE PRINCIPLES OF FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE ADVOCATED BY HARRIET MARTINEAU AND HER BROTHER, DR. JAMES MARTINEAU

**Activities:** Annual three day meeting at different venues of interest and involving the presentation of academic papers, social events and information trails. Occasional one-day meetings. Throughout the year, there is dissemination ofinformation and scholarship on the Martineau family and its achievements via email, and most effectively by means of the Society's website (www.martineausociety.co.uk)
