Our financial year 202312024 proved a challenge for u5, we had a considerable number of chlldren needing extra sUPPOrt thls particularyear, which added a tremendous strain to the stsff already under pressure wlth a demandlng job. In order to preserve the mental health of our loyal and very experienced staff we made the declsion to reduce the Intake of children from 40 to 30 per sess5on - we knew that long-term thls was not sustalnable from a financlal polnt of vlew but chose to do thls rather than lose staff In an Industry (Early Years) thatls golng through a recrultment crlsls. We also have an excellent reputatlon wlthln the communlty of provldlng hi8h quallty early educatlon for pre-school chlldren. As a not-for-profit group our ethos has always been to provlde our servlce at an affordable cost to everyone wlthln our communlty, however wlth the contlnulng rlslng costs and belng underfunded by the local authorlty for the sen41ce we provlde, thls left us wlth a shortfall. The 'free' hours offered by the government at the rate they pald u5 Just dld not cover the amount It cost US to provlde these'free, hours. Thls has been a natlonal Issue wlthln our sector. So, tQ8ether wlth the temporary reduced number5 and the insufficient fundin8 we made a loss thls partlcular year. Movlng forward, we have had no opt5on but to signlflcantly Increase the fee5 we charge our parents after comparlng our cost5 wlth other local providers and these are now reviewed termly, the local authorlty has Increased the amount payable for the 'free' hours makin8 It more sustainable and we are slowlv Increasin8 the number of children at each 5esslon wh115t keeping staff well-being in mind durlng the process.
