## STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

## Status

Registered un-incorporated charity established by trust deed on 20 March 1997.

## Recruitment of Trustees

By personal invitation of the Chairman following names put forward at a Board of Trustees’ Meeting.

## OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

## Objects of the charity

- The advancement of the Evangelical Christian Faith.

- The relief of persons who are in conditions of need, hardship, sickness or distress as a result of local, national or international disaster, or by reason of their social and economic circumstances.

- The advancement of education, to encourage persons to improve their life skills and employment through college training and other forms of training.

- To carry out such other charitable activities as the Trustees may determine at its absolute discretion.

## Strategy

- By supplying funding to the Kamutuuza site in Uganda to support the children's education through sponsorship schemes and maintenance support for the site infrastructure.

- By supplying funding to the Kitwe nursery school to support the children's education.

- This financial year the trustees have not been able to visit Uganda due to the Covid travel restrictions, however we have been able to communicate well with the key people at the schools and have been able to give support from a distance.

## PUBLIC BENEFIT, ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

## Public benefit

The Board of Trustees have considered the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit and report that the work that has been undertaken in Uganda continues to provide much benefit to the citizens there.

## Activities in the UK

The Covid pandemic during this financial period has meant that visits to churches and other organisations have had to be curtailed, but communication with supporters has been maintained through personal contacts, email and social media.

## Activities in Uganda

- The Tower Hill Campus at Kamutuuza, run in conjunction with the Diocese of West Buganda, was again visited during the year by both Trustees and volunteers. The total number of students on the campus continues to be around one thousand. The campus has a Kindergarten & Primary School (Tower), Secondary School (Bexhill), Evelyn's Home (a primary boarding section for very needy children supervised by a housemother), and associated support buildings. The charity was very grateful to receive a grant from the Grace Charitable Trust of £10,000 towards the cost of building a new boys’ dormitory at the primary school. Construction work on the dormitory began during February 2020. An additional 10,000 litre tank was also provided for the primary school during the year.

- There are two sponsorship programmes in place; KNAPS (Kamutuuza Not Able to Pay Students) this provides education for local children attending as day scholars, and sponsorship of the children in Evelyn's Home where the children are cared for full time throughout the school terms. After completing their time at the Primary School, the Evelyn’s Home children continue their education at the Bexhill secondary school and if appropriate receive two further years education at college.

- The nursery school project at Kitwe continued to develop and a third classroom was constructed during the year along with a 10,000-litre water tank attached to the building. Around 160 local children are attending the school.

- During March 2020, at the end of the financial year, the Covid-19 pandemic began to affect Uganda as all schools, and the airport were closed by the government. Just Care continued to support and monitor the projects from the UK.

## FINANCIAL REVIEW, INVESTMENT POLICIES AND RESERVES

There is no formal reserves policy in place, however the charity retains adequate funds for the sponsorship schemes so that reasonable notice could be given to the Kamutuuza schools if the charity were no longer able to continue providing support. Support of the sponsorship schemes remained strong again throughout the year. Undesignated income received is allocated to either funding the charity running costs or Uganda general fund as appropriate. The trustees continue to be grateful to all who support Just Care through financial giving.

## FUNDS HELD AS CUSTODIAN TRUSTEE ON BEHALF OF OTHERS

None exist.

## TRUSTEES

At the end of the financial year there were three serving trustees, listed above.

Approved by the Trustees on 26[th] Jan 2020 and signed on their behalf by: G W Mitchell (Trustee)
