LYMPHOMA LEUKAEMIA MYELOMA FUND (WALES) TRUSTEES’ REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 28 FEBRUARY 2025
The trustees are pleased to present their report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 28 February 2025.
The Financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 and accounting and Reporting by charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective 1 January 2019).
Objects of the Charity
The charity was set up in 1997. The principal object continues to be that of fund-raising to assist and promote the work of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Singleton Hospital by providing equipment or services not normally provided by the Health Authority. Also to promote research and dissemination into lymphoma and leukaemia and associated blood diseases. The charity has no paid workers and depends on the efforts of volunteers for its activities.
The charity name was changed from Lymphoma & Leukaemia Fund (Wales) to Lymphoma Leukaemia Myeloma Fund (Wales) at its AGM on 19 July 2010.
The trustees consider Lymphoma Leukaemia Myeloma Fund (Wales) meets the charity commission requirements to demonstrate public benefit in its purpose set out above.
Management and Governance Arrangements
The charity’s constitution was adopted 3 February 1997 as amended on 4 August 1997 and 12 July 2012. Where there is a requirement for new trustees, these would be identified and appointed by the remaining trustees.
The trustees have conducted a risk review of all of the charities activities and have assessed that identified risks are low with little active fundraising undertaken.
Achievements and Performance in Year
The charity has continued its work of supporting the Haematology Department of Swansea Bay University Health Board. Visiting Ward 11 in Singleton Hospital, maintaining contact with the ward staff, and meeting with the Haematology Team, has been an important element of our work this year. Karen and Melanie met with patients and their families in January and chatted to them about their experiences of visiting the Ward, with a view to gleaning what would improve their visits for treatment and appointments. Transport and travel were the main issues raised, together with facilities in the day room. We are now looking at providing solutions to these issues on behalf of the patients. Out attempts last year to provide DANSA transport or Community Car scheme proved too complex, so we are now hoping that a straightforward taxi services will meet everyone’s needs.
We supported fundraisers and fundraising events during the year. Mrs Elaine Grey held a second Hollywood Ball to raise funds in memory of her husband, David. LLMF paid for a photo booth to be used on the night and Karen and Melanie attended the Ball representing the charity.
LLMF funded the employment of a Physicians Associate for the Haematology Department. This position was funded for 12 months from November 2023 to November 2024. Changes in the department resulted in the position being withdrawn, however, LLMF were happy to provide support totaling £41,350.67 during this period.
An exercise bike was purchased for the Ward to aid rehabilitation - £169.00.
We decided that a website refresh was due, so engaged with charity web builders Ginger and Tall to redesign, simplify and enhance our website – this cost £900.00.
We continue to support the community project by purchasing stamps and stationery - £279.54.
The charity will continue to provide finance for hospital equipment and other miscellaneous patient support where prudent.

Future Plans
Plans for the future are determined by demands or suggestions for equipment or projects by the haematology staff. Hence, to some extent, our plans are the department’s plans. The trustees have maintained visits to Singleton Hospital and hold discussions with the Ward staff and the Haematology Management and Medical Teams. Recent changes in management and Ward staff have meant that new relationships have needed to be established.
We react quickly to any requests for equipment and furniture for the ward and will continue to do so. We are currently awaiting confirmation of requests for chairs, drip stands and tables for the Ward.
Our new trustees, Jonathan and Andrew, plan to do another fund-raising bile ride in June 2025. From Southend on Sea to Swansea – in memory of their colleague Thomas Hopkins.
Ward 11 has requested funds to decorate the treatment rooms, entrance and waiting areas of the ward. Joanne Woozley has provided a presentation showing how the decoration would improve these areas. We have agreed pending a quotation or estimate.
Investment Policy
Any surplus of funds is transferred to a Business Premium account. A total of £50,000 has been transferred during this period.
Reserves Policy
Donations and income fluctuate annually. The trustees' policy is to hold sufficient reserves to meet every day running costs of supported projects and purchases. The trustees’ consider that the ideal level of reserves as at 28 February 2025 would be £30,000. The fund had unrestricted reserves of £314,367 at 28 February 2025.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 28 February 2025 which are set out on pages 4 to 8.
Responsibilities and Basis of Report
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charites Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent Examiners’ Statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination:
-

-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met.
2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
