## **THE PERU CHILDREN’S TRUST – ANNUAL REPORT (2024–2025)** 

## **History** 

The Peru Children’s Trust (PCT) was founded in 1997 to support the work of El Shaddai, a charitable organisa�on based in Huancayo, Peru. El Shaddai was established by Gay and Manuel Reynaga, who were deeply moved by the poverty experienced by children and adolescents living in the shanty towns in and around Huancayo, a city high in the Andes.

In 2012, a new charitable organisa�on — Peru Children’s Trust – Huancayo (PCT-H) — was created to con�nue and expand the work previously carried out by El Shaddai. 

## **Mission Statement** 

The Peru Children’s Trust is dedicated to the long-term relief of poverty and sickness, and to the advancement of educa�on, entrepreneurship and Chris�an faith among children and adolescents who are poor, orphaned, or abandoned. 

The charity operates in the shanty towns and deprived communi�es of Huancayo and surrounding Andean villages, an area with a popula�on of approximately 500,000 people. PCT employs family support workers who build strong, personal rela�onships with children and their families, ensuring consistent and compassionate care. 

## **Structure & Governance** 

The Peru Children’s Trust is overseen by a Board of Trustees based in the United Kingdom. The Trustees are responsible for fundraising and for transferring funds to the partner organisa�on, Peru Children’s Trust–Huancayo, which provides local governance and conducts audit checks.

## **1. Introduc�on** 

Throughout 2024 and early 2025, The Peru Children’s Trust (PCT) con�nued its mission to support vulnerable children and families in Huancayo through educa�on, nutri�on, family strengthening, and spiritual development. 

Across the year, the team delivered academic support, food security programmes, home improvements, health interven�ons, and personal development workshops — all made possible through the dedica�on of staff, volunteers, donors, and partner organisa�ons. 

## **2. Key Achievements Overview** 

## **A. Educa�on & Academic Support** 

## **1. Academic Reinforcement Programme** 

Weekly Saturday classes in Mathema�cs, English, and Communica�on strengthened academic performance. Teachers provided personalised support and incen�ves to encourage par�cipa�on. 

Students con�nued atending extra Maths and English sessions, demonstra�ng strong commitment to their studies. 

## **2. Career Guidance Workshops** 

Older students explored future pathways with volunteers from local university, building confidence and prac�cal skills. 

## **3. Financial Educa�on Programme & Business Ideas Compe��on** 

programme delivered by the Na�onal University of the Centre of Peru. Four business ideas were presented; the winning project was **Vegetable Ice Cream** . 

## **B. Nutri�on & Food Security** 

## **1. Large-Scale Food Distribu�on** 

con�nued through the _Bueno Por Dentro_ programme. 

## **3. Healthy Lunchbox Nutri�on Workshop** 

Parents received professional guidance on healthy ea�ng habits from a nutri�on specialist. 

## **4. Annual Food Packages** 

Families received substan�al food parcels including rice, corn, milk, and meats, thanks to Plaza Vea and Makro.

## **C. Family Strengthening & Social Work** 

## **1. Home Visits & Living Condi�on Improvements** 

Social workers visited every family, o�en travelling to remote or unsafe areas, to assess needs and implement improvements such as: 

- New doors 

- Dining tables 

- Bedding 

- Flood protec�on 

- Electrical wiring 

## **2. Mother’s Day Celebra�on & Posi�ve Paren�ng Workshop** 

Tutors delivered home-based workshops promo�ng posi�ve paren�ng and healthy family rela�onships. 

A special event honoured mothers, many of whom are single heads of household. 

## **D. Health & Wellbeing** 

## **1. Vision Screening & Glasses Distribu�on** 

**A major milestone:** 50% of children were found to have impaired vision and received their first pair of glasses.  “For most of the children, it was the first �me they could see clearly.” 

## **2. Portable Bathroom Installa�on** 

Orcotuna (remote village in the highlands). This provides safety for young children who no longer need to go outside in the dark and be exposed to poten�al dangers. 

## **E. Spiritual & Personal Development** 

## **1. Bible Clubs** 

Regular sessions taught Chris�an values, ethical decision-making, and healthy habits.

Children enjoyed games, food, gi�s (including shoes), and inspira�onal ac�vi�es such as the George Müller film.

The Peru Children's Trust is governed by ils trust deed. The charity is managed by 115 Iruslees, who are
responsible for the strategic direction, governance and financial control of the charity.
The trustees meet as required lo consider the activities of the charity, review ils finances, and ensure that
funds are applied in accordance with the charity's charitable purposes.
New trustees are appointed in accordance wilh the charity's governing document. Trustees are made aware of
their responsibilities under charity law and are expected lo act in the best interests of the charity and its
beneficiaries.

Objectives and activities
The charity's objective is to support children and young people in Peru by providing financial assistance and
support for their welfare. edijcation and related needs.
During the year, the charity continued to raise funds in the United Kingdom and apply those funds for the
benefit of children li) Peru. The main activities included..
-receiving sponsorslip donations for children.
-receiving general gifts and donations.
-Iransferring fuiids to Peru to suppoit the Charity's work.,
-supporting local costs connected with the welfare and education of children in Peru.,
-maintaining records of funds received and applied.
The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit when reviewing the
harily's objectives and activities. The Irustees consider Ihat the charity's activities provide public benefit by
supporting vulnerable children and young people and helping to improve their welfare and opportunities.
Achievements and performance
During the year ended 30 June 2025, the charity received total UK income of £46,948. This included
sponsorship of children, general gifts and donations, and amounts received towards salaries.
Funds were transferred to Peru during the year to support the charity's ongoing activities. The trustees are
satisfied that the funds raised have been used to further the charity's objectives.
The charity continues to rely on the generosily of donors and sponsors. The trustees are grateful for the
continued support received during the year.
Flnanclal review
The accounts have been prepared on a receipls and payments basis.
'rolal UK receipts for the year were £46,948. Total UK payments were £140 and total Peru payments were
£50,923. Al 3Q June 2025, total funds held were £16,638. consisting of £11.358 held in the UK and L5,280
held in Peru.
The Iruslees consider that Ihp level of reserves held at the year end is reasonable given the size and nature of
the chaiity's activities.. The reserves are held to ensure that the charity can meet ongoing comrnilments and
continue supporting ils charitable activities in Peru.

Reserrf8s policy
The trustees aim to hold sufficient reserves to mept expected commitments and to provide a reasonable level
of financial stability. The charity's r?seDies are reviewed by the trustees in light of future expected expenditure,
anticipated donations and the ongoing needs of the beneficiaries.
AI 30 June 2025, the charity held lotal funds of £16,638. The trustees consider this level of reseNes to be
appropriate.
Restricted and unrestrlcted funds
The Gharily reLeives donatior)s for sponsorship of children and general gifts. The trustees consider the nature
of any restrictions placed on donations and apply funds accordingly.
Where donations are received for a specific purpose, the trustees ensure that they are used for that purpose.
General donations are used to support the charity's wider charitabl& objectives.
Risk management
The trustees have considered the main risks facing the charity. These include reliance on donor income,
exchange rate movements, the transfer and use of funds overseas, and ensuring that funds are applied for the
intended charitable purposes.
The trustees manage these risks by monitoring income and expenditure, maintaining financial records,
reviewing funds held in the UK and Peru, and ensuring that funds transferred overseas are used in line with
the charity's objectives.
Plans for the future
The trustees intend lo continue the charity's work supporting children in Peru. The charity will continue lo seek
donations and sponsorship income and will monitor the use of funds lo ensure Ihat they are applied effectively
for the benefit of the children and young people supported by the charity.
