THE REDWAY SCHOOL FUND – TRUSTEES REPORT.

The Redway School continues to be a thriving special school for pupils with Complex Medical Needs, Severe Learning Difficulties. PMLD and ASC.

Pupil numbers have continued to increase with most of the new pupils from the Milton Keynes area. A small number of pupils are placed by other Local Authorities and a few pupils who have moved into the Milton Keynes area either from other part of the UK or overseas. Many of the pupils who have moved to the school from overseas have significant and complex needs.

With the increase in pupil numbers our staff numbers have had to increase with the teaching staff being outnumbered by the support staff such as teaching assistants, lunch time support assistants and admin staff all of whom participate in our ongoing staff training and development.

Parents, cares, school staff and other ‘friends’ of the school continue to support the school by raising funds throughout the year. As I said in our last report COVID 19 continues to have a major and ongoing impact on the day-to-day operation of the school and unfortunately this will continue for some time.

We have had to reduce class sizes, and in some case reduce attendances which has been difficult for parents and carers. We have tried to mitigate these difficulties by keeping in touch with the families either by phone or TEAMS and providing them with LEARNING AND PLAY ACTIVITIES, which they can use for the days when the pupils are not able to attend school.

We hope that during this current year COVID restrictions will ease and we will begin to return to normal.

I am pleased to confirm that there have been no serious incidents or other matters which need to be brought to the attention of the Charities Commission and have not already been notified.

Mike Rowlands.

Chair of Governors and Trustee of the Redway School Fund. September 2021.

THE REDWAY SCHOOL FUND

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirement of section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act) does not apply. It is my responsibility to state, on the basis of the procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 43(7)(b) of the Act, whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of my Report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Statement by Independent Examiner

  1. In connection with my examination no matter has come to my attention :

  2. 1.1 Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

    • a) To keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act and

    • b) To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the Act – have not been met.

  3. 1.2 To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper undertaking of the accounts to be reached.

  4. 1.3 Where The Redway School Fund has gained financial benefit from the school’s main account.

  5. 1.4 I can assure that dedicated school funds are not being administered via voluntary or private funds.
