Watton-at-Stone Community Hall Board of Trustees
T–2022/23
The Nigel Poulton Community Hall Report - May 2023
Trustees: Mr. John Meischke (Chairman) Mr. Michael Smith Trustees retired: Mr. Stephen Block Mrs. Christine Dinnin Mr. David Stock
The Board of Trustees had two formal meetings during the financial year, and all business was reported on during subsequent monthly-meetings of the full Parish Council.
To meet the charity’s key objectives, the Trustees took all steps to ensure that the on-going maintenance and upkeep of the Nigel Poulton Community Hall was carried out as required and all Government regulations applied.
The building has been kept clean and tidy by our team of cleaners, so a big thank you must go to them.
The Trustees will continue to strive to make the Community Hall and its facilities more appealing and update them as necessary. The planned new main entrance to the field and Play area with accessibility for wheelchairs and pushers has now been completed. Some replacement and relocation work has been carried out to the Rubbish bins in the play area and on the field. New Tables for the Pavilion and new sensor lighting for all the internal toilets have been installed.
We have kept very strict control on our energy usage and are pleased to report that providing we are able to maintain this level of cost a planned Energy levy will not at this time be implemented.
Because of the high cost of energy, we tried to run a free Warm Space one day a week, the hall pavilion, kitchen and library were open to all parishioners. After a test period of 4 weeks we had to close down due to lack of attendance.
It was also a disappointing year for Football, both senior men and women were unable to field a team last season.
It has been a year of change for the Trustees Mr David Stock and Mr Steven Block have stood down as a councillor’s and Trustee’s and Mrs Christine Dinnin has stood down as a Trustee. Former Chair of the Parish Council Mr Michael Smith has been appointed as a Trustee.
I would like to thank all the Trustees and in particular Mrs Jane Allsop (the Clerk) who have all contributed toward the smooth running of the facility. A big thank you to all the people that have kept the Library going, and helped to try and give a Warm Space over the winter.
