Manager's Report
Another positive year for 8EL. irs families arKI the staff he￿1
Ofsted:
One of our greatest achievements this year is our Ofsted inspection and subsequent report
that followed. With this being my f irst mana9erial role of a whole settirg (and my f irst ever
experience of an Ofsted inspectionl). I must admit to being nervous after receiving the initial
phone call in January. We're very pleased to say that our hard work had Paid off,. our
<unendments to various documents relating to the enrolment ef the committee members and
the improvements made to record keeping. ensured we had a great basis for a successful
outcome. Ofsted stated that "children make good progress with their communication and
language...tstaff quickly identify those who need additional support.-a stron9 focus on
children's emotional wellbeing and readiness to leorn is at the f oref ront"
With the previous changes to the settiry duriw 2022, a Good outcome is a great
achievement.
with &hool:
Further to various meetings and correspondence with the school, we are pleased to f inally be

only to ensure the longevity of the setting but it will also provide v(tst benefits for the
families and the staff her& fm 9lad that links made with the school since late 2022 have led
to these next steps
Enrolm¢nts:
Our current registers are 'healthy' and we are looking to be f ull again. for the staff members
that we have. f rom January. Even with the recruitment of two new staff members. numbers
are looking particularly hi9h for Acorn class. meanin9 that there are already children booked
into re9iSters f or 2026.
New staff:
With recruitment being so diff icult for early years settitvjs, losing LAyla to maternity leave
was going to be difficult. However, further to advertising a staff vacancy, we were lucky
enough to appoint two new members of staff. Both new members of staff have now started
their roles and have settled into the tecthi. They are both level 3 ql￿rified and come with a
vast experience of childcare.
EnhanceThnts to BEL and the cwriculum:
Earlier this year, Acorn room gained a sensory snug. This has been ¢m essential sw for
those children who need a quiet and safe spce to relax in. Resources for the srnJg were

purchased Using DAF money. whilst the labour, and contractors who provided their time, were
voluntary contributions. A huge thank you to both Derek and Richard for their servic&1

enhancing their music provision. ensurin9 that we are usirrfj a range of songs and music
suitable for the tones and pitches of our children's vocals. The scheme proved successful

We are in the process of adding an extrn indoor space to the f ront lawned-area of BEL. The

small group time learning and a f¢2mily space for parents and staff to meet in. This will be
vital to the development of BEL and will ensure that staff are properly catered for. I am
hopi￿￿ to create a new 'practical Skill￿ area where the existing shed/cabin is so that the
children can access wood work and engineering activities all year round.
rm pleased with the progress that BEL has made over the past 12 months: changes to staff
always brings feelin9s of an¥iety but fm glad we were able to recruit new staff who brou9ht
with them more expertise and knowledg&
The exciting chan9es ahead with the merging of Bream Primary School will ensure that BEL
families and staff are well cared for.
A message of thanks:
Most importantly, fd like to give the biggest of thank yous to our committee members who
have endured a mountain of paperwork and changes over the past two years. Without such
willing volunteers, our setting would have collapsed years ago. It may not feel like much has
been done. but a strow. reliable (md approachable committee have been CRUCIAL to my role
here and the growth of BEL. The f iThJl hurdles are now insight so you can all enjoy your time.
without the M￿S09eS of 'Hi all...-.
