The workshops covered a range of topics, including accessibility, career progression, education pathway, women’s rights, and mental health. We had a diverse groupofparticipants, and the majority gave |
positive feedback on the workshops. Additionally, the drop-in sessions have provided one-on-one support to young deaf women seeking advice on education, job search, and other matters. DEWA also facilitated a live debate between youth and elders. The debate was a first-time experiment for this project and gained considerable attention. The topics discussed during the debate were varied and included technology, social life, body trends, and so on. The audience, both in person and online, had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the lives of both youth and elders.
Disability Justice
The key factor influencing this area has been the ongoing discussions among the management, as they have not yet been able to reach a consensus on the final logo for DEWA. Although this delay affects the timing of incorporating the logo into the website, we are proceeding with the website updates regardless. Once the logo and colour scheme are finalised, we will update the website accordingly. It is important that the chosen logo is accessible and inclusive, meeting visual clarity standards while representing the charity’s identity and values.
NDCS The project; This is Us D.E.A.F. aims to improve our understanding of the experiences of deaf children, young people, and their families, from black, Asian and other ethnic and culturally diverse groups, in accessing support from specialist services particularly during children’s early years.
Between November 2023 and March 2024, the project focussed on developing the research timelines, understanding the legal protections needed for the project, creating documents that advertised and recruited participants and producing draft versions of the questionnaire.
