Summary for 2020
Christian Response had its 30 year annlversary. Together with its predecessor charity
(Christ Church Aid for Romania - CCAfRI we have been seNing the needs of the poor and
needy in Moldova ènd Romania since 1990. Unfortunately. no celebratbon could be held
because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Money was sent each month via trusted partners to help poor and vulnerable people in
Moldova and Romania. Additional funds were sent to Moldova for families and individuals
experlencln8 extra suffering due to the impacts of Coronavirus. In addith)n to three
humanitarian aid trucks, a total of £￿,0(￿} of monetary grants was sent to Moldova and
£18,￿0 to Romania. Christian Response has now stopped ￿gUlar support to families in
Romania as agreed by the trustees In 2019.
Only one vislt lin January) to Moldova was possible during 2020 due to the Coronavifus
pandemic. Such visits help us to better understand the needs of people, see first-hand the
work beln8 done by our partners, and be assured that our supporters, money15 belng used
appropriately. Most importantly, the personal visits help to build on the excellent
relationships Christian Response has with the hundreds of famllies helped in Moklova. This
personal contact 15 very important and builds trust with the poor and vulnerable.
Christian Response has received signed receipts from each of our partners to confimi ri8ht
Use of the fund5 we have sent and photographs of projects. Also, frequent on-line contact
was maintained to keep aware Of the needs and how the aid was being distributed.
Three trucks lone In March and two Sn December) of humanitarian aid and Christmas
shoeljoxes were dispatched to Moldova. In totsl, over 37 tonnes of aid was delivered. This
was achleved by the wonderful support of many volunteers who had to contend with the
extra prt>blems to comply with Coronavirus restrictions in the UK.
There were 5 trustees. meetin85 during 2020, mostty on-line because of restriction5 on

Support tor p(￿r and needy familie5 in Mold¢r4a
The charity encourages UK indprfiduals, families. and churches to have a dI￿rt link wlth
specific families in Moldova and to make donations to suP￿rt those familie5. In addition,
support is grven to other disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Moldova. ènd to churches working
with such people.
Durlng 2020 we continued to support the poor and needy in Moldova. includi￿.
Financial grfts and family support boxes sponsored by faMil￿S here in England and given to
over 2CQ families. with extra payments in 2020 due to the effects of the pandemic on
incomes and needs. and tsklng on additional projects whefe possible.
Some of the money was used to pay for education. or buy animals to entourage people to
grow their own food. or buy wood to help them keep warni in the cold winter weather
which can drop as low as-20c.
Three lorry loads of humanitarian aid conslstln8 of beddin& clothe5. Christmas shoe-boxes
and famlty boxes to Moldova.
Support for soup kitchens and orphana8e5 With financlal gifts.
Providing accommodatton for homeles5 families to I￿e in.
This aid was distributed in Moldova through local partner churthes and trusted individuals. The work
of Christian Response to meet the many needs in Eastern Europe contlnued to be very challen8in&
and particularly so due to the Impacts of the Covld-19 pandemic on many in Moldova, and it is
difficult to admit that we cannot do everythiryd..
Durln8 2017 a new charitabFe or8anlsation known as"Rapuns Crestin" (Christian Response) was
established in Moldova to take ownership of the properties purchased through funding provided
by Christlan Response in the UK. Properties prevlousty purchased and presently owned by "Misuiuna
Cre5tina Chrlstian Response SRL" are bein8 transferred into the new non-profrt or8anisation. Hugh
Scudder 15 one ol the principals of both organisations. Little progress on the transfers was possible
during 2020 due to the impacts of Covid-19 reStr￿tionS on travelllng and artNltles.
Support for po(K and needy famllles In Romanla
Our work In Romania has Eradualty reduced In recent years. The Trustees have decided to cease
re8ular support and work in Romania in order to concentrate on work in Moldova, Whe￿ the needs
are generally greater and fewer UK charitie5 operate. Those who have supported the work in
Romania and the Romanian recipients of donations were infom￿1 of this decision in 2019. The
Romania Family Support fund has therefore been closed.
The outstanding funds that were restricted for use in Romania have been spent durlng 2020. This
included Brants to two UK charities"Aurora Christian Association" and "Life to Romania" that work
in Romanla with similar objects and in similar ways to that of Christian Response. Grants were also
made to Centnjl Crestin Betania. a trusted partner in Romania that we have had long-standing
lation5hip wtth in helping poor and vulnerabie familles. to support their meal programme to poor
people, support the work of their pastors and renovate the heatin8 System at their Suncuius
building.
