Gt. Ellingham (St. James) Scout Group

2023-2024 Annual Review

2023-2024 has seen the Scout Group continue to grow in terms of youth membership, especially the Beaver Colony which has more than doubled its membership in the last year. Adult membership has undergone quite a transformation during the last year as we have said goodbye to Paul H from Scouts, Andy and Vikki from Cubs, Sally and Simon from Beavers and Michelle from Squirrels. However, we have welcomed Luke and Natasha to Scouts and Faith to Beavers.

We have made huge progress with our fundraising towards a new, accessible Scout Hut, thanks largely to an amazing donation of £20,000 from a local benefactor. We have participated in and run several fundraising projects, with very encouraging results – there is still a very long way to go though.

As always the Leadership teams have produced varied and exciting programmes for their sections, with every single section having at least one Nights Away opportunity, including a multi-section camp at Eaton Vale Scout ad Guide Activity Centre for the Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs. Scouts and Explorers also joined together at the annual Water Activities Camp.

Membership (at 30/08/2024) is as follows:

Sections have enjoyed a variety of activities including:

District Squirrel Activity Day, Acts of Remembrance at Great and Little Ellingham Churches and Deopham Green Airfield, St. George’s Day Parade at Old Buckenham Airfield, Carols Around the Tree, County Scouts Expedition Challenge at Gilwell, County Water Activities Weekend at Decoy Broad, Summer Disco, Beaver and Cub Sleepover at High Altitude, Visit to Attleborough Firestation, Joint Cub, Beaver and Squirrel Sleepover, Norfolk 24.

Several badges have been worked towards and completed since the last AGM, including several Chief Scout Awards and Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

The Partnership Agreement between the Group and Hunters ESU will be approved during this AGM.

I cannot express how grateful I am to the Leadership teams for their dedication, commitment and enthusiasm during this past year and for all the years I have been Group Scout Leader. Without the Leaders, the Committee, the parents and friends who help at section meetings and events and generally support the Group, we could not function at this incredible level.

All that is left to say is thank you all for all your support during the last year and my many years as Group Scout Leader. It is now time to hand over the reins of the Group to Liz Saunders as I step away from the role of Group Scout Leader to free more time to work within my County roles. I am not leaving the Group completely as I am staying as Squirrel Leader and Explorer Leader.

So, thank you.

Gt Ellingham (St James) Scout Committee: End of year accounts.

As a committee we have been unable to find an appropriate person to examine our accounts from this past year.

We have gone through some changes this and moved onto an online platform to complete our accounts.

This has come with its challenges and our treasurer has done her best to move the 6 different accounts to one main account and move all transactions from that main account into the new platform.

We have closed out the accounts onto this new platform and enclose them alongside our end of year report.

Warm regards

Gt Ellingham (St James) Scout Group Committee.
