## **CAT RESCUE – CHARITY NUMBER 1062420**

## **NOTE OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 25 SEPTEMBER 2023 AT MAGPIE COTTAGE, MURTHERING LANE, STAPLEFORD ABBOTTS, ROMFORD RM4 1HT**

**PRESENT:** Joanne Beecham – Chairperson Frederick Doody – Treasurer Alan Beecham – Trustee Candida Doody – Trustee

## **REPORT OF JOANNE BEECHAM, CHAIRPERSON**

We are still taking in cats and kittens that are abandoned, either as a result of peoples’ ignorance in not neutering their cats, or of changes in their circumstances meaning that they are unable to care for them. In some cases the cats we have taken into the centre are not able to be re-homed due to their aggressive or unsociable behaviour, and will remain with us for their lifetime. For this reason we are always over-subscribed with cats waiting to come into the centre. We would welcome new volunteers to foster cats and kittens, which would in due course be permanently re-homed.

This year I have continued to do a lot of trapping with feral colonies. Luckily in most cases I have been able to trap, neuter and return them. This is only possible when I am assured that the cats will be fed, provided with shelter and monitored for any future health problems. When feral cats cannot be returned and there are no suitable homes for them, they live out their lives here with me enjoying comfort, food and freedom. Homing is still very slow, cats and kittens end up staying months in our care until the right home comes along.

## **REPORT OF FREDERICK DOODY, TREASURER**

The Charity’s current account with Lloyds Bank was in credit by £10,204 on 5 September 2023. The figure represents an increase of £3,495 since September last year. This increase is partly because the proceeds of the charity’s savings account, a sum of £9,179, which was also with Lloyds Bank, was transferred into the current account in January 2023. In addition, a further £10,000 was transferred into the current account from the Investment account with Quilter in August 2023 . The need to transfer these sums reflects the fact that the charity’s regular expenditure significantly exceed its regular income.

The charity is extremely fortunate to receive regular monthly contributions from individuals that have totalled £1,155 over the last year. This is a significant amount of regular income, which greatly benefits the work of the charity. In recognition of this,

the trustees would like to thank the individuals concerned, namely J Pindelska, J Western, Angela Morgan, William Howard, Mr & Mrs Doody, H Cummins, B J Parsons, Tracy Collier and Mandy McCormack.

The Charity’s investment with Quilter (formerly Old Mutual Wealth) totalled £98,977 on 28 August 2023, a reduction of £11,419 since August 2022. This reduction is largely due to the transfer of £10,000 into the current account in August 2023 in order to cover regular expenses such as boarding and vets bills. This investment depends on the performance of stocks and shares and it should always be recognised that it can fall as well as rise in reflection of that performance. It should therefore be regarded as a long term investment.

## **ANY OTHER BUSINESS**

There was no other business to discuss and the meeting concluded with the trustees agreeing that Cat Rescue must continue with the good work of feline welfare and rehoming that has built up since the Charity started.
