STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Structure, governance and management
The constitution was last updated on the 2nd October 2012. Trustees are appointed or reappointed annually at the Annual General Meeting held in September.
Membership of The Friends of Henry Maynard School (FOHMS) shall consist of all parents and/or guardians of pupils, past and present attending or who have attended the school and all members of the school’s staff. The trustees oversee the running of FOHMS and seek the views of members in deciding activities to run. Information is gathered and shared through WhatsApp groups, newsletters, social media sites and through the FOHMS website. There is a Privacy and Data Protection Policy in place.
FOHMS has carried out fundraising activities, sometimes in partnership with local businesses and charitable organisations, as well as other Local Authority schools. All trustees and volunteer give their time voluntarily and received no remuneration or other benefits.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and activities
OBJECTIVES
The aim of the association is to advance the education of the pupils in the school. In furtherance of this object FOHMS may:
-
Develop more extended relationships between the staff and parents and others associated with the school
-
Engage in activities which support the school and advance the education of the pupils attending them
-
Provide and assist in the provision of facilities for education at the school (not normally provided by the LEA)
ACTIVITIES
In planning our activities for the year, we were conscious of the disastrous effects of the pandemic on children’s development, the pressures upon the school to provide quality remote learning, and the inability to plan and deliver face-to-face in-person events.
Our activities were centered around online and socially distanced fundraising opportunities that relied heavily on the strong social media channels and the recently developed FOHMS website fohms.co.uk and its donation platform. The main activities were as follows:
-
Online Winter Raffle
-
World Book Walking Trail
-
Laptop campaign
-
Food Parcel and food bank campaign
We are grateful for the many hours that volunteers have spent in supporting the activities of FOHMS. Without this valuable contribution of time, energy and expertise we would not have been able to achieve so much.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Achievements and performance
ACHIEVEMENTS
In-person events were not possible this year but FOHMS development of the website, donation page and social media channels have meant that many activities could take place.
Through the online donation page on the website FOHMS was able to raise an additional £1250 to add to previous donations towards school ICT equipment. This allowed FOHMS to provide the school with £12,393.42 to spend on Laptops to support remote and in-class learning. Income from recurring monthly donations (set up through Donorbox on the donations page) increased to more than £1000 a month. With this, and additional donations through the page, FOHMS received £12,457.66 and a further £736 in General donations.
In the absence of an in-person Winter Bazaar, the team were able to host an online raffle that raised £3,289.64. One parent hosted a photoshoot in his studio and donated the £366.01 profit to FOHMS. Together with PLATE4U AL SUFFA, FOHMS hosted a World Book Day Walking Trail. FOHMS’ share totaled £975.00. Amazon Core and Everyclick continue to generate quarterly income.
The school community rallied in support of the most vulnerable children in our school. Those in receipt of free school meals and identified by the school leadership as falling behind with their education because of food poverty received £4050.00 from donations to supplement food parcels.
LOOKING AHEAD
The donations page on the website has been a huge success. School leaders would like FOHMS to develop the range and uptake of the recurring donations to further assist in the provision of facilities for education at the school. The school Governors will be communicating to the school community about the importance of regular donations to the school’s ability to provide enriching educational activities for the children. More details about how FOHMS can play a part in supporting the children’s educational outcomes will be presented at the AGM.
The Co-Chairs Heddy Korachi-Alaoui and Sam Rodham will be standing down after 3 years in their roles. The new Chair/Chairs can hopefully plan some in-person events in the near future. One priority must be to engage parents and carers of children in the Reception, year 1 and year 2.
