Report for Lordswood Under 5’s Playgroup

September 2023 – August 2024

We continue to provide term time sessional care for children aged between 2 and 5 years old who live in and around Lordswood. We continue to accommodate children and their families from a range of backgrounds, religion and additional need. Many of our children receive funded places at either 15 hours or 30 hours a week through the government scheme. We continue to be a committee run organisation with our committee being made up from a mix of past parents, current parents and staff.

Since our last submission we have not had an OFSTED inspection and have seen an increase in numbers of children and therefore numbers of staff. In addition, we have been able to take on an apprentice which is something we haven’t done before.

We have continued to provide the same standard of service to our families since the last report. Milk has been provided daily along with healthy snacks which have come from donations from our families and community. Parental donations for snack bar have really helped us ensure that no child goes without and has access to a healthy snack during their time at the setting.

Children have continued to make use of our lovely outside wooded area where we have become more of an outside / outdoors setting rather than an inside one. The children love being outdoors and exploring.

We have noticed that the demand for certain activities we have provided in the past hasn’t been needed in the last year so have adapted accordingly. The reading books, games and bears we were sending hoe to promote discussions and develop skills were not really what was needed and wasn’t really being utilised as it had been in the past. We have been finding that developing independence and those early life skills have been more of a benefit to our children and families.

We continue to go out in the community to local shops and cafes where the children can buy their own shopping for cooking and snacks which is funded by us so no one misses out. We have continued to develop links with local shops, libraries and schools. These have been hugely beneficial to us and out families.

We have continued to hold raffles and sponsored walk events at Christmas and Easter for our children and families to take part in to help raise money for the setting.

We have continued to use our Facebook page and now Tapestry to share communications with parents and develop our relationships with families even further. Parents have been given many opportunities to come into the setting to look at their child’s folders, discuss progress and share music and story times with their child.

We hope that we continue to see our setting grow and continue to offer more partnership as well as community links building on the foundations of what we have started.
