Chairman’s Report 23 September 2021
During the past few weeks, life has seemed to be getting back to something relating to normal and I know my client has enjoyed being taken out again to shop, have coffee and just savour the fresh air. We still must be very careful, but I think the time has come for us to start looking to the future, planning fund raising events and perhaps restarting the Gentle Exercise classes.
Miranda has been marvellous during all the various lock downs and managed to secure money from various funds, for which we are very grateful. However, I am sure we now have to be more creative when appealing to other organisations, many of whom require a project to fund. I am sure the Gentle Exercise Classes fall into this category and perhaps we can even make ‘encouraging new volunteers’ into a project.
To start off the fund raising I am holding a coffee morning at my house on Wednesday 6 October, so I would like you to advertise it through your churches where possible and of course bring along your friends and neighbours. I have also mentioned it to Andrew, the vicar of St John’s and asked him to remind the local churches that Careplus was set up by them and we need them to support us financially and would like them to ask their congregations for volunteers. The Masons are now beginning to meet face to face, so we may receive some more help from them, and Rotary say they have pencilled in a date for their Tea Party next year, so things really are beginning to happen. Our new Face Book page is now up and running and we had our final training last week. We may now be able to spread the name of Careplus through other websites simply by liking them !
I would now like to thank Miranda for all her work over the last year and for her diligence in keeping abreast of all the Covid updates and regulations, relating to our clients and volunteers and to John for managing our finances throughout these challenging times. Also a big thank you to all our volunteers who kept in touch with their clients, even if it was only by a telephone call, as I know a lot of elderly people have felt isolated and alone during the pandemic.
I hope 2022 will be a better year and Careplus will flourish as we attract more volunteers and funding.
