SUNNI MUSLIM ASSOCIATION REPORT OCTOBER 2020

Chairman’s Report

The impact of the worldwide pandemic has been significant on both our community and our activities and functionality as a charity. This year has been exceedingly challenging du to the loss of loved ones, lock down restrictions and the impact on many of our communities ability to work and provide for their families. We have attempted to rise to meet these challenges by implanting daily zoom based zikr sessions which have proved to be well attended by members and guest scholars and naat readers. These session while being a far cry from our usual community based activities, have proven to be invaluable as a means of providing a sense of community and hope to our members

I would like to thank all of our members and regular attendees for their on-going support of our activities. We continue to hopes and pray that the pandemic continues to subside and that we are all able to eventually resume life as normal.

Secretary report

Despite the Pandemic, our members and community have proven to be strong in their commitment to each other and our values as a charity. While we have predominantly been having congregations online, attendance has been surprisingly good and as always people have been generous when fundraising for our usual charity appeals such as our Ramadan food packages appeal, which goes on to feed hundreds of people every year.

TREASURE’S REPORT

The has been an understandable impact on our fundraising abilities as we have been largely unable to collect funds during this past year in the centre. Our online fundraising events for the community centre have also been hard to raise funds due to the increased financial pressure on our members from the pandemic and lockdowns. We are hopeful that as the world continues to emerge from this pandemic that we are able to resume our regular collections and ensure the lasting presence of our community centre for our members and community.
