Leydenhatch Educational Centre Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 July 2020

The Trustees present their report along with the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31 July 2020. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out on page 8 and comply with the Charity's Trust Deed and applicable law.

Structure, governance and management

The Leydenhatch Educational Centre is constituted by a Deed of Trust dated 13 March 1997, and is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

The Trustees who have served during the year and since the year end are set out on page 1. None of the Trustees, nor any person connected with them, received any remuneration from the Charity in the year ended 31 July 2020 (2019: nil).

The power to appoint trustees is vested in the existing Trustees.

Trustees are selected according to their own specialism in a particular field, and are expected to pursue that specialism. Advice and information to ensure regulatory compliance is obtained from professional and associated sources.

All major decisions, including those of a financial nature or those affecting the Trust's policies and direction, are made by the Board of Trustees at their regular meetings. More minor decisions may be made by individual trustees in their particular field of responsibility. 9

Leydenhatch Educational Centre co-operates with Trent Valley Education Trust in the pursuit of its charitable objectives.

Objectives and activities

Objects

The charitable objects of the Trust are the advancement of the education of children and young people. The objects also include any other charitable purpose for the benefit of the worldwide Christian fellowship known as the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church.

In furtherance of its objects, the Trust owns premises which are made available for the operation of an independent school based in Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire (the “School”), which educates 98 pupils from the age of 7 to 18.

Aims

The Trust fully endorses the ethos and values of the School, which are as follows:

Ethos

Students are encouraged to develop their full potential and acquire the discipline of learning how to learn, while upholding Christian teachings and beliefs.

The truth and authority of the Holy Bible and strong family values underpin the commitment of the School to provide quality in every facet of education – curriculum, teachers, facilities, management and discipline - in a safe and caring environment.

Values

The School is committed to a way of life that is governed by the Holy Bible, expecting the conduct of pupils and staff consistently to reflect Biblical values and the specific values of the School, which include:

Significant activities

The School is operated by Trent Valley Education Trust a registered Charity with registered Charity number 1057147 (the "Education Trust").

Throughout the year to 31 July 2020 the Trust continued to make its premises available to the Education Trust in order to assist the School to operate efficiently on its current site in support of the School's ethos and values. During this financial year several costs have been incurred relating to the preparation of building a new school hall at the site including planning consultants and design costs.

There is no constitutional link between the Trust and the Education Trust and there are no common trustees. Further information about the activities of the School can be found in the accounts of the Education Trust.

The Trust's premises are made available to the Education Trust on the basis of a lease for which a rent is payable. All pupils are admitted to the School regardless of their academic ability and the financial means or level of contribution of those related to them. All pupils are treated equally and in making any decisions regarding the education of a pupil, the School Trustees ensure that the same attention, facilities and provision are available to all pupils, taking into account their individual needs. The Trustees are satisfied that supporting the School by the provision of premises will continue to assist the Education Trust to make education available to its pupils on that basis.

Objectives

We have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and we have had regard to it when reviewing our aims and objectives, and in planning our future activities.

Key objectives for the year included:

Strategies for achieving objectives

The Trustees’ strategy for achieving the Trust’s objectives can be summarised as continuing to work with the Education Trust to make the Trusts' premises available to the School in a manner which supports the School's ethos and values.

Financial Review

The Trust is principally supported and financed by grants from the Trent Valley Education Trust in addition to the sums payable by the Education Trust for the use of its premises.

The Trustees have examined the major strategic, business and operational risks which the Charity faces and confirm that systems have been established to mitigate those risks.

In the year ended 31 July 2020 the Trust reported a profit of £-119,941, leaving the total funds of the Trust at £791,495.

Future plans

We intend to continue to provide quality premises for the purposes of education in a supportive environment, in accordance with the School’s ethos and values. This includes building a new school hall on the site to be completed by March 2021.

Trustees' responsibilities in relation to the financial statements

The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the Charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

The Trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Report of the Independent Examiner To the Trustees of the Leydenhatch Educational Centre

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the period ended 31 July 2020 which are set out on pages six to ten.

RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES AND EXAMINER

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act)) and that an independent examination is required.

It is my responsibility to:

BASIS OF THE INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view ' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statements below.

9

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

have not been met; or

1 Accounting policies

Accounting convention

The financial statements have been prepared under the receipts and payments basis.

Incoming resources

All incoming resources are recognised once the charity has entitlement to the resources, it is certain that the resources will be received and the monetary value of incoming resources can be measured with sufficient reliability. No incoming resources are deferred or included net of expenditure.

Legacies, donations and other income are credited when received. All income arises in the United Kingdom.

Resources expended

Liabilities are recognised as resources expended as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the Charity to the expenditure. All expenditure is accounted for as it arises.

Fixed assets and depreciation

Tangible fixed assets costing more than £100 are capitalised at cost. Depreciation has been provided at the following rates in order to write off the assets over their estimated useful economic lives.

Freehold buildings 2% straight line Premises improvements 10% straight line

Fixed asset investments are included in the balance sheet at the Trustees' estimate of market value. All realised and unrealised gains and losses arising on the revaluation of fixed asset investments are recognised in the SOFA. The need for an impairment review of fixed assets is assessed annually.

Fund Accounting

All funds are unrestricted. Unrestricted funds comprise those funds which the Trustees are free to use in accordance with the charitable objects.
