2022-23

Our philosophy is to create a friendly, family like atmosphere so that our children feel relaxed and able to freely express themselves.

As a registered charity run by a committee of local volunteers, including parents of children in pre-school, we understand the needs of our local community. We strive to provide high quality affordable care and education so that our children get the best possible start in their educational life.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

**The trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the guidance issued by the Charities Commission on public benefit in deciding which activities the charity should undertake.**

We know the cost of childcare can be prohibitive and that is why we keep our fees low and help parents to access free funding for their child where possible. This aids parents to be able to attend work safe in the knowledge that their child will receive the best possible play and learning experience within their local community.

We also provide a safe play and learning environment for children of preschool age to develop their social and communication skills that they may not have the benefit of accessing without our assistance.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

We are Ofsted regulated and were rated as ‘Good’ in our last inspection in October 2018. You can read the full report on the Ofsted website.

Our aims and objectives are clear and focused on allowing every child in our care to achieve their potential. We aim to:

- Provide high quality care and education for children below statutory school age

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

- Embrace the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and use it as the basis of our approach to early learning and development

- Work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop

- • Ensure that each child is in a safe and stimulating environment • Offer children and their parents a service that promotes quality and values diversity

Our staff are friendly, dedicated, enthusiastic and truly care about delivering the best quality of care for our children. They work with parents to tailor their child’s care to ensure that each child feels safe and able to play and learn. Our staff also organise fun activities for the children and parents such as the pre-school sports day and festive activities.

Our dedicated staff are assisted by a committee of volunteers who give up their time to assist with fund raising efforts, providing support and guidance and effectively governing the organisation.

Section D                      Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

**Achievements and Performance** The preschool continues to be a well-loved childcare setting within the community, with a dedicated, loving and hard-working team. Our reputation remains strong within our area of operation and we have had only positive feedback this year. This year we provided care and education for 28 children. The focus this year has been on developing our educational activities. The children have produced amazing artwork for our displays through topics such as Winter. Those topics have been used to focus on child led and in the moment activities. The children have thrived throughout the year and we have received positive feedback from parents. New progress report templates have been developed and implemented and have been received well by parents and staff. This year we have developed our SEND offer as we experience an increase in the number of children requiring additional support. We have worked with Worthington School to provide specialist speech and language services for our children to help identify support needs and prepare them for their transition to primary school. The team have continued to develop the setting and to promote the good work of the Pre-school.

## **Section E                    Financial review**

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

The charity completed the year with a reserve of £22,456 after investment in the facilities and the provision of services. The Charity adheres to a reserves policy that requires a minimum reserve equivalent to three months operating costs (current approximate required reserve is £18,500 for the current year). The current reserves will be invested with a proportion set aside for the development of the Charity’s facilities and to protect against periods of low revenue, especially in the Autumn term, where historically the pre-school receives reduced income. The trustees will determine the appropriate value of reserves to be retained based upon the Charity’s forward financial projections and risk analysis.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
