Public Benefit

The purpose of the charity, as set out in the governing document, is to educate girls and young women to help them develop emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually so that they can make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world

The trustees confirm that they have referred to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Charity’s aims and objectives and in planning activities.

The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

Summary of the main achievements during the year

The Division has celebrated it’s 50[th] birthday and as part of that each district has supported a local charity connected to Newcastle with the aim of raising “50” of something relating to the charity. We also held a competition open to all to design a badge to celebrate our 50[th] , we chose a winner from each section and combined their design into the badge we have now. The girls are enjoying the guiding programme and the numbers of those achieving bronze, silver and gold awards is increasing.

The charity’s policy on reserves

We hold just over £42,000 in a high interest bond. We aim to use the interest earned to donate in line with our objectives. The total unrestricetd funds held at the year end were £61,899 (2023: £57,421).

I report in respect of my examination of Newcastle-Under-Lyme Division Guide Association’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. Accounting records were not kept in respect of Newcastle Under Lyme Division Guide Association as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts to not comply with the accounting requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
