Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 LPFRA has been responsible for the
management of both Llanferres Park
and Tafarn y Gelyn Pond.
At Llanferres Park, the Association has
established a well-used playground for
children of the community and the wider
area, establishing a very positive
reputation in the area. The major
development during the past year was
the replacement of the two aging multi-
tower play units. Much of the set up, fund
raising, grant securing and preparation
work was carried out in the previous
financial year and highlighted in that
report. The actual installation work was
carried in May 2022. This was followed by
volunteer work to lay new playbark
around the equipment and extend one of
the play areas to incorporate some new
equipment. The repair of all the pathways
within the park was also completed to
make them safe to use and accessible for
all.
One of the objectives of the development
was to increase frequency of use of the
park and a survey conducted later in the
year showed that this had been achieved.
The playground is now a safer area with
more variety of equipment . Feedback
from users has been very positive,
including from those who now visit from
a wider catchment area.
The Pond at Tafarn-y-Gelyn provides a
safe environment for leisure use and as
an educational platform to study local
wildlife and flora.

TRUSTEES’ REPORT (continued)

Public Benefit

The Trustees have taken into account the information contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing our aims and objectives and in planning our future activities. In particular, the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives set out in this guidance. The charity provides public benefit through maintaining a public park and pond, which is open and accessible to all.

Report of Progress and Achievements

2023 – 23 was a very successful year for both park and playground developments, and for fund raising.

The development project included replacement of the two aging multi-play tower units, repairs to other play equipment and complete renovation of the pathwork. In addition, using unused grant contingency, a new picnic bench, new granite work surface for BBQ and a new electric strimmer were purchased with a balance remaining to make further improvements during 202324.

Thankfully in 2022, the marshalling of the ‘ Merida Mountain bike’ event returned and, with support from 70 members of the wider community, we received a significant donation of £1,800. The November 5[th] Guy Fawkes event with both indoor and outdoor activities was also a major success, raising over £1,000. With membership fees, donations and proceeds from the monthly quiz in the Druid Inn, it was a good year for fund raising.

Huge gratitude goes to the organising teams to make these events a success, the Executive Committee as a whole, as well as to the wider public for supporting the events, including the working parties to keep the park safe and open. Special thanks are due to Dyfan Barr for rerunning the survey questionnaire, essential for feedback to the grant companies, and to Tim Griffiths for his continued commitment to mowing the grass.

Securing the Green Flag again, and the elimination of all major risks in the annual risk assessment, evidences the good work done by the Executive Committee with strong support from the community. Plans are in place for 2023-24 with fund raising events and adding new features on the park and playground, all of which will keep us busy for the next 12 months.
