**management of both Llanferres Park**
**and Tafarn y Gelyn Pond.**
**At Llanferres Park, the Association has**
**established a well-used playground for**
**children of the community and the wider**
**area, establishing a very positive**
**reputation in the area. The major**
**initiative during the past year was to**
**replace the two aging multi-tower play**
**units. This initially required liaison and**
**discussion with play equipment**
**suppliers, followed by an extensive**
**public consultation exercise. This**
**included designing and running a**
**survey questionnaire and holding public**
**meetings to explain plans and to make**
**sure that local people and particularly**
**young people were able to express their**
**views.**
**Local fund raising, combined with**
**evidence of the survey and community**
**support for working parties, was**
**significant in giving confidence to the**
**Community Funds at The National**
**Lottery (People and Places) and at**
**Clocaenog Wind Farm to award us**
**grants of just under £32,000 and £20,000**
**respectively. This will be used in 2022-**
**23 to replace the play equipment, repair**
**paths, maintaining other play equipment**
**and fund a solar panel and USB charger.**
**The Association was also awarded £500**
**consolation prize from the 2021 Calor**
**Community Fund campaign, which grew**|
**to over £2,300 with donations and gift aid. A further £1,000 was raised from WWF Cymru to build a timber shelter with wildlife features on which we could site the solar panel. This was successfully built with local 11-18 year olds at the end March 2022. Pleasingly, the solar panel was donated by Hafod Renewables, which released funds to buy a power unit giving a more regular supply of power. Great support again from the local community with individual donations, a variety of fund-raising initiatives and very well attended maintenance working parties which helped LPFRA yet again win the coveted Green Flag Award. At Tafarn y Gelyn Pond, the association has been responsible for managing the refurbishment of the pond, decking, steps, and sitting area which were completed in September 2021, following the award of £4928 from AONB Sustainable Development Fund, £11632 from the Postcode Lottery, £250 from Llanferres Community Council, £250 from Dwr Cymru, £564 from Crowd Funding and a £50 private donation. Over the period April 2021 – March 2022, capital works have also included the planting of approx £300 worth of marginal aquatic plants by community volunteers around the edges of the refurbished pond. During summer 2022, a series of successful pond dipping events were arranged attended by 3 different teams from the local Scout Group and members of the local community to check on the presence of invertebrates and amphibians. These were supervised by members of Amphibian & Reptile Conservation.**

The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, in particular those related to the operations and finances of the Charity and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate our exposure to the major risks.

## **Public Benefit**
The Trustees have taken into account the information contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing our aims and objectives and in planning our future activities. In particular, the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives set out in this guidance. The charity provides public benefit through maintaining a public park and pond, which is open and accessible to all.
## **Report of Progress and Achievements**
The last 12 months has been a challenging period, with Covid-19 restrictions continuing to impact our local fund-raising activities, particularly in the first half of the financial year. Thankfully, the second half of the period allowed us to start planning for events and a very successful Christmas Bingo evening was very well supported by the community and local people / companies donating prizes.
The major initiative during the year was the project led by Executive Committee members Dyfan Barr and Dave Edwards to replace the two aging multi-tower play units. This initially required liaison and discussion with play equipment suppliers, followed by an extensive public consultation exercise. This included designing and running a survey questionnaire and holding public meetings to explain plans and to make sure that local people and particularly young people were able to express their views.

I would like to thank all Executive committee members for their highly valued support, in particular, yet again, Tim Griffiths who, without fail, keeps the park grass growing under control.
The refurbishment of Tafarn-y-Gelyn Pond, including a new pond liner, was also completed in the year, this being entirely funded by grant monies and fund raising through considerable efforts by Dave and Jane Clough. The reward is now a full pond and hopefully many ongoing benefits to local people.

There is lots of work to complete in 2022-23 and hopefully more fund-raising events on the park and elsewhere, including - fingers crossed - the September mountain bike marshalling, which could raise £2,000 towards our operating costs.

The attached financial statements show the current state of the finances which remain sound.

At 31 March 2022, free reserves amounted to £28,358 (2021: £11,929).

The refurbishment of Tafarn-y-Gelyn Pond, including a new pond liner, was also completed in the year, this being entirely funded by grant monies and fund raising through considerable efforts by Dave and Jane Clough. The reward is now a full pond and hopefully many ongoing benefits to local people.

There is lots of work to complete in 2022-23 and hopefully more fund-raising events on the park and elsewhere, including - fingers crossed - the September mountain bike marshalling, which could raise £2,000 towards our operating costs.
## **Finances**
The attached financial statements show the current state of the finances which remain sound.
## **Reserves**
At 31 March 2022, free reserves amounted to £28,358 (2021: £11,929).

In accordance with our engagement letter, we have prepared for your approval the financial information of Llanferres Playing Field and Recreation Association for the year ended 31 March 2022 which comprises the Income and Expenditure account, the Balance Sheet and the related notes from the accounting records and information and explanations you have given to us.
This report is made solely to you, in accordance with the terms of our engagement letter. Our work has been undertaken solely to prepare for your approval the financial information of Llanferres Playing Field and Recreation Association and state those matters that we have agreed to state to you in this report and for no other purpose.
