Chairman’s Report 2019/20- By Laura Partridge
In September 2019, When it was time for our talented, fantastic and long standing FABS trustee’s to step down. Jen, Claire, Liza and I stepped up to try and fill the shoes of what has been a very successful PTA for the school. Our aim was not to re-invent the wheel, but to continue the fantastic fund raising platform that was in place. However, enhance our opportunity by implementing a new strategy which included setting up fundraising objective before each event, experimenting with different technologies to make it easier to raise money, And most importantly, to work closely with Mrs Collings and the school to have a plan in place on how we were going to spend the money!
Unfortunately, due to covid-19 we were unable to carry out the normal timetable of charity events and at the end of the year had organized 3 events,: The Halloween Bingo, Christmas Fayre and Valentines disco. The Christmas fayre was our biggest success, in terms of money raiseed, and we raised a staggering 1700.00. This was a really fun evening. We got to show case the new school calendar that the children had designed, open up the year R playground to an outdoor Christmas food market and enjoy our very own, school choir, the starlings playing in the back ground.
The Coronavirus also made it impossible for us to open the pool last year and although in terms of running costs it didn’t costs us anything, we did loose out on income because each year we rely on donations from our parents and carers to help contribute to the pool during the summer season. In 2019 45% of parent/carers contributed to the pool and although we are very grateful to those who did contribute, this year we will be hoping to increase this percentage, as we feel that the pool is an invaluable asset and if our Children did not swim at the school, then we would have to pay for them to catch a bus in to Dorchester and swim at the local leisure centre.

Despite the virus putting a hold on a few things, the Swimming pool has had many success’s over the past 12 months and as Jen mentioned in her Treasurer report, we need to express a huge Thank you to Jude Baker who has worked tirelessly to successfully apply for over #20,000 worth of funding and research and design the new pool house, which we are in the process of building.
As I mentioned before our main objective, other than raise the money, is to SPEND the money and I am pleased to report that during lockdown 2020, the money raise at the Christmas fayre refurbished the year one classroom. The room is transformed and it has created a calm and well organized environment for the children and teachers to enjoy!
Before I end, I would just like to talk about our future plans for the coming years. We will continue to raise money to renovate all of the class rooms and we hope that by spring 2022, all of the classrooms in the school will have had a makeover. Our technology offerings will get stronger, improving our communication and making it even easier to donate and mor importantly help us put together a fun filled fundraising calendar for the Children as they missed out on so much last year. Starting with the all-important Friday afternoon Cake sell!
Lastly it leaves me just to say a big Thankyou to everyone that has helped and supported FABS over the year, particularly the one son the what’s-app group! I would like to extend particular Thanks to Jude, Nicky, Rosie our retiring Trustees, and Jen, Claire and Liza for keeping me on the straight and narrow!!
This concludes my chairman’s report. I will be available at the end of the meeting to answer any questions you may have.
