The COVID-19 pandemlc stole not only time that wo could spend loving and laughing wth those
dose to us. it also stole so many of thos8 Iov8d ones that we would so desper8tely want to hold
close. In addition to COVID-19 th8r8 wèrè so many more instances of those close to us losing their
lives. In this reality. our organisation did it's best to bring people logelher even at a distsnce.
Over this period of locktng down and untocking, we tried our best to deliver support onling. As always
funding has been both limited and short térm which does not help with our stability as an
organisalion.
In the latter part of the year, we benefitted from funding to astablish a Community Frfdge In tha
organisation which has helped us do our bit to save thg planet and reduce food waste.
other funding applications have brought new relationships with new funders In and evar changing
landscape of new local authorities.
Our thanks as a committee as always go to the committed and dedicated staff not forgetting our
essential and passionate volunteers without whom we simply would not achleve even a small
proportion of what we have achieved.
Farhat Late¢f
The treasurer is responslbla for k88ping proper records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at
any time the financial posltion of the organisation and to ensure that the acr￿unts comply with th6
requirement outlined with the Accourrting for Charrties and policies for the Constitution.
The management have rew8wed the intemal controls during the year and found them to be in
generally accordance with the charities commission guidelines and appropriate actions have been
put in place in the few areas that required attention
Last year, we have secured our core services and endeavour to ensure that our services will continu8
to support women and the broader community. Tha organisation has had to rewew budg8t
¢xnsidering the reduction of core funding. the Gommittea has had to take decisions and continuously
monitor expenses to maintain financial stsbility and sustain stsff and s8rvices. The organisation has
been exploring various ways of generating incomel
Members nominate trustees for Annual eleclions. Trust88s are elected annually at the Annual
General Meeting. New trustees are offered an induclion meeting within 6 weeks. In this way we hope
all staff. volunteers and trustees will benefit from formal induction into the organisation.
Balance at the end of year 2023 is £203,509 out of which £50900 is Restrfcted Funds and rest are
Designated Funds. Dostiyo has adopted a ReseTves Policy a rationale to maintain sufficient
level of reserv8S to enable normal operating activitie5 to continue over a period of up to 6 months
should 8 shortfall in income occur and to take account of potential risks arKI contingencies that may
arise from time to time.
Thanks lo Lorraln8 Scullion for preparing the accounts efficiently and to DNG Dove Naish LLP for

l am pleased to present the Annual Report for the year 2022-23. This year has been marked by
signrficanl challenges, particularfy in the areas of funding and the cost of living crisis. However,
through perseveran￿ and collaborative efforts, we have successfully navigatad these obstacl8s,
Securing funding, d8v8loping services, and addressing the pressing needs of our communities.
Th8 year began wlth a challenglng fundlng landscape. marked by increased competition for grants
and a general economic downtum. This made it difficult to secure the ne￿SSary financial resour￿8
to sustain and expand our programs and seNices. The rtsing cost of living affected the communities
we serve. placing additional burd8ns on individuals and families. This crisis intensified the d8mand
for our ServI￿S while simultaneously putting pressure on our organisation's operational cost.
Our work wntinues to span across Northampton and Wellingborough. This year there has been
substantial increase in numbers of members getting involved in actiwties sharing and benefiting from
time with each other. We continue to create great support and positive volunteering opportunities
focussing on vulnerable people in the local communities especAally setting local self help groups
run and managed by volunteers. which Dostiyo has been supporting as an infrastructur8
organisation.
Despite the cha118nging funding environment, our relentless pur5UIt of financial support yielded
positive results and w8 war8 able to develop new and enhan￿ existing services to better meet the
evolving needs of our communities. Below is the report of the year:

'SAHELI' GROUP

Since the fomiation of Sah81i group it continues to provide a v8ry strong, sound and consistent
plattom to bgfriend and support to over 50 Asian older and disabled women. These women have
more than one medical conditions, some of them have recovered or are recovering from serious
illnesses. During the bwo-day group sessions Saheli provides a platform to forge new friendships
befriend those who fall in dire circumstances. There has been remarkable improvement in their
mental and physical health because of the social int8raction and emotional wamith. They feel less
lonely and depressed. much happi8r, motivated and valued. All members are encourag8d and
empowered to take an active part in group discussions which has given them the opportunities to
build their self-confidéncè. self-esteem and rekindled their dormant skills in planning, organising and
impl8m&nting thèir decisions.

Scheme
Organised befriending training session delivered by Sarah from Northampton Sports for the
befrienders. We recruit8d 6 volunt8ers who wsited older peop18 in their home, took them OLrt for a
Cup of tea and a chal, or accompanied them to an activity such as a trip to a ￿fe or the theatre. In
some cases, a volunt8er accompani8d oldèr p80pl8 to hospital or doctolsl dental appointrnents and
always happy to chat 0￿r the phone or What's App.
Our Befriending scheme has helped some very vulnerable ladies in the communities, some with
severe mental health issues. They have enjoy￿ th8 days out and much needed Gompany.
The Sah81i project demonstrates just how irnportant the existen￿ of group support is. The absolute
importanc8 cultural protection alongsid8 integration opportunities in wider groups. It fvrther
demonstrated h¢)w exerryse is understo¢)d to help both physical end mental stabilty, but without a
safe space {that enables thc>se to reTnain fully Clothed including head scarves) then this would not be
an opportunity. The women recognised how detrimental this would be to not only themselves, but
their wider famiEy ne￿OrkS.
The group is looking to address current n88d of the community by managing Community Fridge and
se8k to 8xpand the semces of the group in the next year.

It has been another busy year for our Advice services. It has been very Ghallenging for our clients.
especially wth the cost of living crisis. The increase in mortgage rates, rent charges, increase in
household bills and soaring food pri￿S is taking a toll on most people but especially those from
marginalized communities. We have been supporting people to maximize their income. access
relevant grants and welfare benefits they may be entided to. A person may present with one problem
at first, but we then unravel that they require support in many area5. It is a holistic service that we

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF DOSTIYO ASIAN WOMEN AND GIRLS ORGANISATION**

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2023 which are set out on pages 17 to 23.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Use of our report**

This report is made solely to the charity’s trustees, as a body, in accordance with Part 4 of the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. Our independent examination work has been undertaken so that we might state to the charity’s trustees those matters we are required to state to them in an independent examiner’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity’s trustees as a body, for our independent examination work, for this report, or for the opinions we have formed.
