Chairman’s Report 2023/24

In the past 12 months we have seen some changes within our committee, Barrie Bennetts, Denise Rogers , Gordon McWalter and Giles Docking all stood down after giving many years of valuable service to the L.I.C. Dave Waters was unable to continue as our handyman and we were fortunate to recruit Mark Walker. David Olds replaced Mark Blake to undertake the planting and maintenance of the flower beds around the village. David was taken ill at the beginning of the planting season and we were extremely grateful to Glynis and David Teagle who offered to help until he was fully recovered.

The Pay and Display machine was finally installed in the car park after many months of negotiations, our thanks to Peter and June for their patience in pursuing this project. Melville having retired after 21 years as car park attendant, returned to assist until the machine was fully functioning. Jeanette kindly helped when needed.

Work which is now being undertaken includes the St Agnes Well, the area around the Topograph on the Beacon and a new notice board and flower bed in Peterville. The proposed repairs to the railings at Trevaunance Cove received no response from the contractors.

The Garden of Rest is slowly getting tidied up by the Parish Council and we are negotiating with them to place gravel onto the paths.

The planned repairs to the footpath on Coronation Walk has been declined by the County Council and Parish Council, stating that funds were not available. Bollards have been placed at the bottom of Stippy Stappy to prevent cars parking on the entrance to the footpath. We have some other projects in the pipeline which hopefully will result in completion this year.

Donations this year have been made to St Agnes Silver Band, The Museum, The Christmas Lights and Goonown Playing Field. We also purchased 2 Defibrillators for the village and a recycled seat for the Goonown Playing Field. We will be looking to purchase more recycled plastic seats in the future to replace the old wooden ones, this will be more cost effective.

Thank you to everyone for their input over the past 12 months, it is always helpful to have new ideas and suggestions to improve our village.
