Trustees' Annual Report and Accounts for the year ending 31 March, 2023 

The trustees of Cylch Meithrin Llandrindod present their annual report and accounts for the year beginning 1 April, 2022 to 31 March, 2023 and confirm they comply with the requirements of the Charities Act, 2011. 

## **Objectives** 

Our goal is to support the learning of preschool children aged 2 to 4, primarily in Llandrindod and the nearby areas, using Welsh as the main language in a warm and nurturing setting. We strive to provide access to high-quality education through the Foundation Phase and Flying Start programs for up to 2.5 hours per day, or up to 10 hours per week if funded by the government. Children eligible for Flying Start can attend for a maximum of 2.5 hours each weekday. Building on the successful Cylch Meithrin model, instruction is delivered mainly in Welsh, with some English to help children transition to a possible bilingual school environment. 

## **Our Aims** 

- To enhance children's education by providing engaging and safe play activities, primarily in Welsh, with some English to help ease their transition into a bilingual school. 

- To promote and maintain the children's mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing. 

- To create a welcoming, secure, and friendly environment for children. 

- To provide caring, approachable, and supportive staff. 

- To encourage learning through play in both indoor and outdoor spaces, with constant supervision. 

- To offer children opportunities to socialize and interact with others, preparing them for the transition to primary school. 

## **Review of Activities and Performance** 

We are a high-quality, welcoming early years education and care provider for children aged 2 to 5, delivered entirely through the medium of Welsh. As the only fluent Welshspeaking preschool in the area, we provide a unique opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the Welsh language. We follow the Foundation Phase curriculum, which focuses on learning through play and exploration. 

We offer both morning and afternoon sessions, registered to accommodate 19 children in our 3+ program and 10 children in the Flying Start session. Additionally, we can accept children from outside the Flying Start area, with a fee of £12 per session. 



## **3+ Leader’s Annual report AGM May 2023** 

## **Annual update** 

Our 3+ sessions are open four mornings per week Monday - Thursday (totalling 10 hours) for children age 3-4 accessing 3+ funding. Currently we have 15 children accessing the service through the Early Years funding. Priority places are always given to funded children but when we are in a position to accept children outside who access their full funding elsewhere, our fee is £4 per hour/£10 per session. 

## **Staff** 

Joanna Bridgeman and Tracey Price are Co-Leaders and Chelsea Lloyd is an apprentice. She is currently working towards her NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Learning and Development, through Cam wrth Gam. 

## **Training** 

Tracey is up to date with all training and both Jo and Chelsea are booked on an Advanced Child Protection course. 

## **Staff training** 

Within the last 12 months a number of training courses have been undertaken by staff these include:-

## **Major achievements in the past year:-** 

We have continued to develop the ‘Hygge’ approach to our environment.  We have been asked by County to share our development with this to other settings within Powys. 

Jane from Celf delivered 6 workshops delivering skills in printing, mixing, weaving, designing a collaborative piece of art. 

Jemma from Impelo Dance delivered a series of 6 Dance Workshop. Families were inviting to join us for this, which proved very popular. 

Continued successful relationship with Croeso I’r Bont, and the welsh language. 



Chelsea joined our team September 2022 as an apprentice.  She is a huge asset as she has an excellent relationship with the children and their familes.  She also is a fluent welsh speaker. 

## **Mudiad Meithrin** 

We continue to receive support from the programme ‘Croesi’r Bont’ to develop the setting’s Welsh language.   Our link support, Miriam, visits regularly offering ideas, resources and advice. This partnership is proving to be very successful and Miriam’s reports indicate that she is pleased with the progress of both staff and children. 

Olwen Jones is in regular contact via social media and in person.  Olwen delivered a candle making workshop and a honey jam tasting session which was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

## **Flying Start Leader’s Annual report AGM May 2022-2023 – Flying Start** 

## **Annual update** 

Our afternoon sessions are open five days per week (totalling 12.5 hours) for children accessing Flying Start funded places and children aged 2-3 who are not eligible if space is available.  Currently we have six children accessing the service – four eligible for Flying Start funding. Priority places are always given to Flying Start children but when we are in a position to accept children outside the Flying Start area, our fee is £4 per hour/£10 per session 

## **Staff** 

Emily Morgan joined us is September 2021 as Flying Start Leader along side Lesley Evans and Tracey Price as Flying Start Assistants. 

Lesley sadly had to leave us on temporary sick leave in April 2022 so we appointed Stephen Sullivan as a Flying start assistant on a temporary contract. 

Stephen left us at the end of October 2022. Tracey Price is now the Flying Start assistant and Joanna Bridgeman will cover any sessions Tracey is unavailable for. 

Karlene Nickson has joined us on a Friday morning as Flying Start Assistant. She started in April 2023. She already has a level 5 in childcare leadership and management an will undertake all training needed for the position. Karlene will be joining us full time from September 2023 in the Flying Start afternoon sessions. 

## **Training** 

All staff are up to date with mandatory training – first aid, Advanced Child Protection, Domestic Violence and radicalisation training. 

Emily Morgan has completed the new Flying Start planning and observation training this year along with SOGS, Advanced Safeguarding and Level 3 Child protection training and she is continuing to make good progress to be completed with her level 5 in December 2023. As a setting we are continuing the Adventures with Alice programme which everyone is really enjoying and feel it is giving us new ideas and enhancing the environment for the children’s learning and development. 

## **Resources** 

We purchased a new laptop for the setting. We updated the garden with money that was allocated to us through a 3+ setting grant. Adventures with Alice have also been giving us lots of new resources as part of their programme which is wonderful and the children are loving them.
