Alan Dower Blumleln
Blumlein wa5 one of the most prollflc invelltors of the twentieth century, earning a total of 128 patent5 in his
short life. The EMI Archive Trust 15 the custodian of Blumleln's research papeT5 and prototype5. 8lumlein filed
121 of those patents in the space of 13 year5, whileworkingfor EMI atthe Central Research L8bor*ory, covering
key development5 the fields of Sound reTrrdlrTr& tslevlsion and radar. On June 7. 1942 durinE World War11,
aged 38, Blurnlein's lrfe was cut tra8ically short in an alreraft accident whilst testing the H2S airbome radar
system that the team he w8s le8dlftg had developed and whlch was soon after deptoyed throughout the RATS
fleet.
TheTrust's rare Blumlein HB microphone remained on102n to globally renowned Abbey Road Studios on publi
