Stanton Drew & Pensford Preschool Annual Report: 1[st] September 2019 to 31[st] August 2020 Registered Charity Number: 1055041
The Aims of our Charity
Our charity aims to provide high quality and affordable education and childcare for local families and their children. We offer opportunities for high quality early learning, and lots of outdoor and forest school activities, to young children aged between 2 years and 5 years old. We have a strong focus on the needs of the individual and in supporting each child’s development. We are committed to being a fully inclusive setting. We prioritise the wellbeing of our staff.
Summary of Accounts for Financial Year Ended 31[st] August 2020
The accounts for this financial year show a slight surplus. Clearly this has been an exceptional year in terms of what the setting and the sector has gone through. It is helpful to have this additional financial buffer as we go into the current financial year. The EYE funding rate has remained the same in this financial year, as have fees for children.
We have sufficient Reserve Funds to cover any situation in which the preschool might have to close, with all outstanding liabilities covered by this Fund. The Reserve Fund is recalculated annually to ensure that there would be sufficient funds in place to cover costs, particularly to pay any staff redundancies owing. Our Reserve Funds are in a deposit account to earn interest for the benefit of the Charity.
In the summer, the preschool committee came to an agreement in conjunction with the setting leader to make her redundant. The setting leader no longer wished to work full time for the setting, and we were able to use funds accumulated over the years to allow her to take voluntary redundancy. We wish to thank her for her dedication, commitment and hard work for the setting over the past 15 years.
Our goals from last year
- Bring woodwork into the setting, including applying for a grant to fund training for staff.
Due to the pandemic, it has not been possible for us to action this goal.
- Revamp the garden area and fix the fence posts.
This goal was actioned over the summer break.
- Look into the possibility of employing a fourth member of staff.
An advertisement for an additional staff member was placed but there were no applicants. This goal has now been preceded by the current situation whereby we have recruited a new setting leader who wishes to work full time.
- Find new committee members to replace outgoing members.
The setting has been very successful in recruiting new committee members and they will be voted on at this October’s AGM. A new treasurer and secretary have been appointed and the current treasurer and secretary will step down at the AGM.
- Continue to ensure the financial stability of the setting, to include fundraising and applying for grants.
The setting has managed to stay financially viable over the course of the current year.
Our goals for next year
-
With a new setting leader recruited, we will look to support her in implementing her vision for the future of the setting.
-
An important goal this year is to ensure that the setting remains sustainable, in light of the situation with Covid-19. This should be a top priority.
-
Find new committee members to replace outgoing members.
-
Continue to develop the setting via staff training, applying for grants and purchasing new resources.
-
Improve communication with the hall committee and come to agreement over a contract between ourselves and the hall.
