It’s wonderful to have been involved in the on-going development of this scheme and to see how the volunteers and staff are dedicated in the work and services that this scheme strives to provide to accommodate the needs of local older people. 2020 has been a difficult year due to the COVID19 Pandemic but our resilience to address change enabled us to work together and deliver services to meet the isolated needs of the local older people we work with and for. I would like to express my gratitude to all the volunteers who give up their free time to support all the work and activities that this scheme provides and to the members of our Executive Management Committee who attend regular meetings and give me and this scheme their support when required. I want to thank the staff for all their dedication and hard work over the last year in the work provided by this scheme also for supporting me. Kenneth Hill Project Manager ## Chair’s Report The Swarcliffe Good Neighbours Scheme continues to enjoy a good reputation with the older people it works with and for and has a strong staff and volunteer team which helps to deliver and maintain the services and activities so valued by all the local older people. A Big Thank-You to everyone who in any way has helped and supported the Swarcliffe Good Neighbours Scheme to maintain the delivery of quality services and activities it provides over a year that has been very difficult which has been dictated by the COVID19 Pandemic. Brenda Stewart Chair Executive Management Committee ## Activities & Services Which help reduce isolation of older people in our area ## Befriending Telephone Contact Older people were asked to socially isolate due to the COVID19 Pandemic. All the clients registered with the Swarcliffe Good Neighbours Scheme were contacted via a courtesy telephone call to say “HELLO” and to enquire if they were ok and if they needed support with anything. Over the year we made 5,176 calls to older people in our local area and the wider community. ## Signposting/|Referrals Our continuous telephone contact identified individual needs of an older person which required; Signposting provide contact details of a service provider to enable an older person to contact a service provider themselves. Referral Make a referral on behalf of the client to a service provider. Over the year we made a total of 116 signposting/referrals’ to meet identified needs of older people during the pandemic. ## Submit Prescriptions/Deliver Medications Our continuous contact enabled us to support older people who required their prescription to be taken to a local pharmacy and their medications to be collected and delivered. Over the year we collected prescriptions/delivered medications for 38 older people. ## Outreach ~ Home Support Visit Our open contact with older people while in lockdown could require a home visit to asses/support need. We also made home visits via service provision and activities that were delivered to help older people keep healthy and active during lock down. Our staff and volunteers ensured the safety of all parties by wearing P.P.E. ## Weekly Grocery Shopping During the pandemic Staff and volunteers went for and delivered the grocery shopping for 31 older people a week. Their shopping list, shopping bags and money was collected to enable us to deliver the grocery shopping of their choice. In total we made 3,224 door step visits which not only supported an older person with their food shopping but created the opportunity to socially interact in these unprecedented circumstances. ## Activities & Services Which help reduce isolation of older people in our area ## Weekly At Home Luncheon Club During the pandemic Staff and Volunteer drivers delivered 51 hot meals a week for older people which were provide via, - Skyliner Fish & Chip Restaurant , Colton - Presto Meals on Wheels Service Leeds City Council In total we delivered 1,479 hot meals via a door step visit which not only supported an older person with a hot meal but created the opportunity for them to socially interact while in lockdown. ## Book Club Older people could request 4 books from a genre of their choice to be delivered to their home. I n total we delivered 136 books to help occupy their time via a door step visit which also created the opportunity for them to socially interact ## Quiz Pack Older people could request a quiz pack presented in a plastic wallet which included; - Wordsearch Book - Crossword Book - Suduko Book - Pen - Packet of assorted mints to be delivered to their home to help occupy their time. In total we delivered 48 quiz packs via a door step visit which also created the opportunity for them to socially interact. ## Home Movie Night Older people could request a “Home Movie Night” which included; - 3 DVD’s (movies) of their choice - Box of Maltesers to be delivered to their home. 10 older people requested a Home Movie Night via a door step visit which also created the opportunity for them to socially interact. ## I Pad Loan Scheme With the support of our digital volunteer the Swarcliffe Good Neighbours Scheme created the opportunity for an older person to loan an Apple IPad with broadband creating the opportunity to socially interact with family and friends on-line. Our aim, to increase the level of digital inclusion in the community we serve. ## Treasurer’s Report The financial accounts for 2020 - 2021 show another financially sound year for S.G.N.S. over a period of unforeseen circumstances dictated by the COVID19 Pandemic. The funding and support from Leeds City Council/Adult Social Care and various funders have been invaluable. We have used our money wisely in an area not classed as “inner-city” but which has all the deprivation characteristics of such areas and where Central Government resource provision is significantly higher than in Swarcliffe, Stanks and Whinmoor. The Accounts Balance Sheet highlights the assets and liabilities relative to the status of funds over the last year and what funding the Swarcliffe Good Neighbours Scheme has to take forward in the forthcoming year. All our sources of income are subject to close analysis requesting monitoring information to quantify the case we made for the funding. At a time when services need to be both quantitative and qualitative S.G.N.S. is meeting these requirements. The core funding provided via our contract with Leeds City Council/ Adult Social Care gives us the financial support to achieve sustainability while creating opportunities to develop new mechanisms of support and services to meet the needs of the local older people during this pandemic.
