\ \ 1 1 t i A Message /: ¢ from our - ¢ | Chai : Last year, | emphasised that the Health Tree Foundation (HTF) belongs to you; it is “Your Charity”, whether you are a patient, carer, family member, staff of the Trust, visitor or simply a resident of Northern Lincolnshire and Goole. | write this as the world adjusts to new norms in international finance and trade, with any impact on our personal finances a matter of conjecture. Charities across the UK found it difficult, last year, to maintain their financial position in the face of fewer donations and the same will surely be true for 2025/26. The HTF is no exception, and | therefore want to say a huge “Thank You" for every contribution, every event, every sacrifice you made during those difficult times, in support of “Your Charity”. But | would also ask that you do not desert the cause in this coming financial year, and | realise that is a big ask. As you will see when you read this Annual Report, the HTF is able to make lives better for those being treated by the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust. Sometimes it is small things: chairs, ‘ blanket warmers, toys or perhaps garden improvements. ; Other times, you will see significant work such as the wes ii current use of the Fairchild Legacy to make wards in ¢ aie Scunthorpe more Dementia Friendly. Kivis The HTF Team, guided by the Trustees of the Charity, ‘4 inarewhatever clearly focussedway they oncan. enhancingThey need patientyour experienceshelp, your ' unwavering support, so may | urge you to continue to + show your generosity in whatever way you can. It may 1 be donating your time, organising an event, participating ~ in fundraising activities, considering a legacy or simply i donating by scanning a QR code, of which there are many ¢ / throughout the Trust's estate. As ever, on behalf of the HTF Trustees and everyone who benefits from your kindness and selflessness, please accept our grateful thanks.

Scrubs the Bear is the large and cuddly mascot for NHS charity The Health Tree Foundation (HTF).

Don't be alarmed if you spot Scrubs at your local hospital! He will be there to entertain youngsters on the children’s wards, warm the hearts of the Trust’s adult patients, and encourage the communities to raise funds for each hospital.

July | We celebrated the NHS's 76th Birthday! . <<“ y - 2 jem f | BIGTEA {fy . “ae ie . ‘ La q t 00 8 8 8 86 8 8 8 Dementia Friendly Fates Improvements eaten Scunthorpe General Hospital Dementia facilities across Scunthorpe hospital will be improved, thanks to a substantial legacy donation. The late Mrs Elizabeth Fairchild lived in America at the time of her passing and she generously stipulated that her donation of £326,000 is spent on benefiting patients at the town’s hospital. Sue Liburd (MBE DL), HTF Trustee and NLaG Nonfacilities. Executive Director, officially opened the Ward 17 She said: “Coming into hospital can be anxiety provoking for anyone, with dementia even more so.

Dementia-friendly wards, such as this one, have been proven to improve health outcomes, reduce anxiety, distress, and agitation. It helps patients to feel safe and secure, enabling them to engage more fully with their care and treatment. We owe a special thank you to the generous Fairchild legacy in enabling this project to happen.”

A review of our finances achievements & performance

Public Benefit

As a Charity, our main purpose is to benefit the public. Our ambition is to transform donations of time and money into making the NHS sparkle for patients throughout our lacal community. We couldnt do this without donations, tegacies and investment, which continue to be our main sources of income. Our total assets, income and expenditure for this financial year is set outinthe next few pages.

The Public Perception Test

To support the Health Tree When considering its use of funds, Foundation’s activities, the Charity a person should ask him or herself; continues to maintain a healthy cash Would someone who puts a pound balance and investment portfolio. in acollecting bucket be happy for The stock market continues to it to be spent this way? Would you be volatile and changes within it be proud to tell a donor about this have impacted the valuation of our expenditure, and the difference it is investments, however these are making, or would you find yourself reviewed on a regular basis by the defending a purchase which you Health Tree Foundation Trustees know should really come from Committee to explore the potential your core budget? for taking mitigating actions.

We're committed to delivering meaningful benefits to patients and their families. To do this, we need highly-skilled staff who can ensure we realise our ambitions. Training and developing our people is key to this, as is staff welfare.

The Health Tree Foundation does not have any direct employees. Fundraising and administration staff are seconded to the Charity from the Hull & East Yorkshire Smile Foundation, helping us keep : i, . costs down while providing the skills needed to make a real difference. These seconded employees manage our Charity together with employees from the Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust, ensuring we keep administration costs to a bare minimum.

Foundation Trust staff work closely with the Health Tree Foundation Trustees Committee (formerly known as Charitable Funds Committee) and the Equipment Group to identify priorities, assess the suitabilitymoney we of spend funding makes requestsa real and difference make sureto the the communities we serve.

Reserves Policy & Investments

Reserves Policy Statement

Investments

The Trustees have updated the Charity’s reserves policy following a review of the guidance set out by the Charity Commission, and the significant changes to Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 2019.

The Trustees are under a legal duty to apply charitable funds in furtherance of charitable objectives within a reasonable time of receiving them, Under normal circumstances, a period of 12 months is considered reasonable; therefore the Charity would expect to hold reserves approximately equal to the running costs. This amounts to £277,000 per year for fundraising staff costs, office costs and governance costs. The Trustees recommend that in addition to running costs, general expenditure costs for six months are maintained in reserves. Based on the 2024/2025 financial year, this would be £314,000. Therefore the minimum amount required to be held in reserves is £480,000.

The Trustees recognise that it may be necessary in the future to achieve the target level of reserves by retaining a portion of the income from investments. The Trustees consider it necessary to retain reserves over the longer term to:

e Minimise the risk should levels of donated income reduce significantly that the Charity cannot meet its obligations

The corporate Trustee invests its charitable funds with CCLA Investment Management Ltd in their Charities Official Investment Funds (COIF). Dividends are paid directly into the Charity’s bank account. As of 31 March 2025 97% (2023/2024: 96%) of non-liquid funds were invested in COIF.

As of 31 March 2025, the market value of investments were: COIF Ethical Investment Fund £1,146k (2023/2024: £1,297k)

The Health Tree Foundation Trustees Committee regularly reviews the level of investments and undertakes market testing to ensure the Charity has the correct balance between risk and returns, and maintains adequate liquidity.

During 2024/2025 the investments incurred a loss of £51,000 (2023/2024: gain of £114,000). The stock market continues to be volatile and the Health Tree Foundation Trustees Committee regularly reviews performance to explore the potential for mitigating action.

The Trust's ethical investment policy prevents investment in companies directly involved in the production of tobacco products, alcohol and arms.

The remaining balance of the liquid reserves are held in commercial bank accounts, which total £29,000 (2023/2024: £50,000).

e Hold sufficient reserves to ensure the Charity can cover its ongoing operational costs to process outstanding commitments.

The value of fixed asset investment goes down as well as up. Where values go down, funds need to be safeguarded from such losses through the level of reserves retained. The Trustees continue to review the balances held in all funds, in accordance with the provisions of the NHS Acts relating to charitable funds, to determine whether these are likely to be committed in the near future.

A big THANK YOU!

The Health Tree Team have departmentprovided justneeded what ourto give— patients the privacy they require outside of the hospital now looks much better.

Many thanks to Lauren Henry and all involved in making such a big positive change for our department.

The wish was to improve the comfort of the patients while sitting for long periods in the counselling room after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

furniture that is easy to sit in and rise from, the furniture needs to be the right seat height, the contemporary furniture offers this and therefore comfort.

The material and colour bring a softness, enhancing the aesthetics of the counselling room.
