Objectives and achievements:
The primary purpose of the preschool is to provide education, learning and development to children aged from two to five years old and prepare them to begin their school journey in reception. We are open five days a week and offer half day sessions from 9am – 12pm or 1pm, or full day sessions from 9am – 3pm, closing for school holidays.
We offer families a community-based setting, to provide children with all the tools and support they need to develop effectively and appropriately for their age and development. The preschool works closely with the wider community and encourages parents and families to be in involved with activities and their children’s’ education as much as possible. We pride ourselves on offering a small, personal and familiar setting where all staff know every child and parents are included and encouraged to offer information in their child’s interests and needs to help us to plan activities.
Achievements so far this year include new children joining us, raising money and continuing to add on to our gardens, including a whole new fence in the garden, as well as obtaining more sensory equipment for children with specific needs. Money raised has also enabled staff to attend extra training courses (outside of the necessary ones) to improve their knowledge and skills in educating the children, staff are signed up to Noodle Now where they can attend courses on line when they are able to do so. Little superstars, Yoga bugs class and regular visits from people within the community, such as the local Vicar, police officer and fire fighter have been able to continue or pick up again for those that were on hold for covid reasons.
Financial summary and Fundraising.
While we receive money from Government funding for some children, as well as others being privately funded, the preschool also works hard to hold charity events to improve the income of the setting and help the staff to continue to excel in the care and education that they provide.
In October we sent home an Autumn themed treasure hunt for families to do over the half term, the children receiving money for every item found to be donated to the preschool; as well as a Halloween party and costume competition where parents donated towards the preschool for their child to take part, in return the children received treats and prizes donated to the preschool. In December we made Christmas treats including reindeer food, marshmallow snowmen etc to order, all money received was donated to the preschool and proved very popular. We also held our annual nativity, we held a raffle and offered cakes and drinks, all received well and raised valuable funds. We held a cheese and wine evening for all the parents, staff and committee members to come together. Local businesses were very generous in their donations for this event and parents paid for their tickets as well as partaking in a tombola on the night, it was very well received and so lovely to have all the adults in the preschool in one room, as well raising a very impressive amount of money.
For Easter, we have sent home an Easter themed treasure hunt as per the Halloween one and we hope to be able to hold a sports day and summer leavers party in July where there would be ample opportunity to raise more vital funds. Last year the sports day raised more money, including a raffle and games and all the parents were able to stay for a picnic / stay and play with children and staff. Last year’s rose queen helped us to raise a large sum of money from the buckets while walking and we were the winners for the 3[rd] consecutive year which meant we also won the prize money.
Structure and Management.
Trustees are appointed at the Annual General Meeting. The Trustees of the charity are currently all parents of current children. At the AGM, trustees’ resignation and a vote for new appointments are made, as well as reviewing the year’s performance against financial budgets.
All new Trustees must obtain a current and relevant DBS and be Ofsted approved, following that they will be provided with a full handover and training by the previous trustee holding the same title.
In addition, trustees are encouraged to read Charity Commission and other newsletters and to attend courses designed to keep them up to date of their responsibilities.
The trustees meet regularly thought-out the year, (minimum five meetings plus an AGM) during these meetings all charitable matters are discussed including the raising of funds, approving charitable events, income structure and financial issues, performance of the preschool and its staff, and any other issues raised. Last year there was no resignations from the committee.
The staff structure has changed, we have had two members of staff leave us for other careers, and while it took a long time and a lot of effort, we finally recruited two more members of staff, both very qualified and experienced, so we are back to a full team.
Plans for future periods.
We are now planning on improving our communication with parents using technology and what we do with our EYFS observations. We would like to purchase some new Ipads and implement using an app / web system where staff can upload the children’s daily information e.g. nappies, food eaten and also can complete observations on here rather than on paper. We are also in need of a new storage facility in the play garden.
We also hope to continue to add to our SEN provisions and equipment, including training for staff.
As well as this, we hope to extend our outside spaces and continue to add to our nature garden.
Finally, the chair of the preshool will be stepping down at the end of the summer, this will be announced shortly and a new candidate voted in at the AGM in June.
