**KETTERING CHRISTIAN CENTRE | ANNUAL REPORT 2025**

## **Trustees' Annual Report**

The trustees present their annual report and the financial statements of Kettering Christian Centre for the year ended 31 October 2025. The report explains the charity's purposes, public-benefit activities, achievements, financial position, governance arrangements and principal risks during the period.

Kettering Christian Centre is a local church and registered charity serving Kettering and the surrounding community. Its activities are open to the public and are not restricted to regular attendees or church members.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The charity's core objectives are to promote the Christian faith, alleviate sickness and hardship, and advance education.

In furtherance of these purposes, the charity provides material and spiritual support within the local community. Its principal activities include public worship and teaching, pastoral care, befriending, referrals to relevant service providers, education and training, community fellowship, and practical assistance where need arises.

## **Public Benefit and Community Use**

The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. The charity seeks to ensure that its services and facilities are accessible to the wider community.

The church building is made available for community use when it is not required for church activities. Local care providers use the premises for training on weekdays and on some Saturdays. The building is also used by clubs, societies, social groups and for children's parties.

A befriending and referral service is provided when a need is identified. The charity also supports individuals through food assistance, practical guidance and referrals to suitable service providers.

## **Grant-making and Practical Assistance**

The charity provides small gifts and practical assistance to individuals where a genuine need arises or is brought to its attention. Support has primarily related to food costs, short-term accommodation and travel expenses in appropriate circumstances.

## **Social Investment**

The charity does not hold social investments. Its principal long-term asset is the church building, which is maintained and used to support the charity's mission and public-benefit activities.

## **Contribution Made by Volunteers**

Kettering Christian Centre relies substantially on the commitment and skills of its members and volunteers. Their contribution enables the charity to maintain the premises and deliver its activities at the present level.

Volunteers serve in ministry, music, cleaning, administration, information technology, hospitality, building maintenance and other service areas. They bring a wide range of professional and practical experience. Training is provided according to the responsibilities undertaken so that volunteers are suitably prepared for their roles.

**KETTERING CHRISTIAN CENTRE | ANNUAL REPORT 2025**

## **Achievements and Performance**

During the year, Kettering Christian Centre continued to provide financial assistance, food parcels, pastoral support and referrals to relevant service providers where necessary.

The church community remained stable, with more individuals undertaking training in areas such as pastoral care, teaching, Sunday School, administration, building maintenance and mentoring.

Kettering Christian Centre is a church community of more than 50 people, representing a range of ages, cultures and ethnic backgrounds. Everyone is welcome, and the services offered are intended for the wider community as well as those who regularly attend the fellowship.

## **Use and Stewardship of the Church Building**

The church building remains the charity's primary investment and operational base. The trustees continue to focus on maintaining the premises, supporting community access and ensuring that the building is used effectively to advance the charity's purposes.

## **Training and Development**

The charity continued to develop volunteers and leaders through role-specific training. This supports continuity, strengthens safeguarding and governance, and helps the charity sustain its activities despite changes in volunteer availability.

**KETTERING CHRISTIAN CENTRE | ANNUAL REPORT 2025**

## **Financial Review**

The charity's principal source of income is voluntary giving through Sunday offerings, collections, Gift Aid and online donations. Income is also received from the use of the building and from interest earned on surplus funds held on short-term deposit.

Total receipts for the year were £67,072, compared with £74,413 in 2024. Total payments were £70,465, compared with £71,061 in 2024. This resulted in a net cash outflow of £3,393 for the year. Total assets at 31 October 2025 were £124,685, with no current liabilities reported.

## **Reserves Policy**

The trustees aim to maintain reserves equivalent to approximately three months of operating costs. This policy is intended to provide financial resilience in the event of an unexpected reduction in income and to allow the charity to continue meeting its liabilities and delivering its services.

A proportion of reserves is designated for building renovation, repairs and maintenance. The trustees consider this allocation necessary to support the continued safe and effective use of the premises and to accommodate the future development of services.

## **Investment Policy**

The charity does not hold investments other than its operational property and short-term bank deposits. Any future investment would be considered only where capital can be appropriately safeguarded and the arrangement supports the charity's objectives.

## **Principal Risks and Uncertainties**

The trustees review the charity's policies and operational risks annually. Principal risks include the loss of experienced volunteers through retirement or relocation, unexpected building costs, and a material fall in voluntary income.

The charity seeks to mitigate these risks through volunteer training and succession planning, prudent reserves, appropriate insurance, regular property maintenance and continued monitoring of income and expenditure.

## **Going Concern**

The trustees have not identified any material uncertainty that would cast significant doubt on the charity's ability to continue as a going concern. The accounts have therefore been prepared on that basis.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

## **Governing Document and Constitution**

Kettering Christian Centre is governed by a Constitution and Trust Deed adopted on 15 March 2006. The charity operates under a model constitution and trust deed accepted by special resolution and is affiliated with Assemblies of God.

## **Appointment of Trustees**

Trustees are appointed by trustee resolution, subject to appropriate checks, including Disclosure and Barring Service checks where applicable, and approval by the charity's members.

## **Trustee Induction and Training**

Prospective trustees are invited to attend trustee meetings as observers so that they can become familiar with the charity's operations and the responsibilities of the board. They are provided with the constitution, trust deed, accounts and relevant Charity Commission guidance.

Candidates are encouraged to undertake independent research and receive a period of mentoring before being invited to join the board. This process is intended to ensure that new trustees understand their legal duties and can contribute effectively to governance and decision-making.

## **Organisational Structure**

The trustees directly oversee the day-to-day financial affairs of the charity. Operational responsibilities are supported by volunteers and office holders according to their areas of service and expertise.

## **Wider Network**

The Centre maintains fellowship with Assemblies of God, which provides guidance and support in relation to the charity's vision, objectives, policies and procedures. This relationship supports effective governance while the trustees retain responsibility for the management of Kettering Christian Centre.

## **Trustees' Responsibilities**

The trustees are responsible for preparing the annual report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and the requirements of the Charities Act 2011.

In preparing the financial statements, the trustees are responsible for selecting suitable accounting policies and applying them consistently; making judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and preparing the accounts on the goingconcern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation.

The trustees are also responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the charity, safeguarding the charity's assets, and taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

## **Approval of the Trustees' Report**

The trustees declare that they have approved this annual report on behalf of Kettering Christian Centre.

## **Independent Examiner's Report**

TO THE TRUSTEES OF KETTERING CHRISTIAN CENTRE

Registered charity number: 1054423

Year ended 31 October 2025

## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**

The trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed.

It is the examiner's responsibility to examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011; to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act; and to state whether particular matters have come to the examiner's attention.

## **Basis of Independent Examiner's Report**

The examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and the seeking of explanations from the trustees concerning such matters.

The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit. Consequently, no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a true and fair view, and the report is limited to the matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent Examiner's Statement**

In connection with the examination, no matter has come to the examiner's attention to indicate that:

- accounting records have not been kept in accordance with the applicable statutory requirements;

- the accounts do not accord with those records;

- where relevant, the accounts fail to comply with applicable accounting requirements or are inconsistent with the Charities SORP; or

- any matter should be drawn to the attention of the reader to enable a proper understanding of the accounts.
