TRUSTEES’ REPORT

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 5 APRIL 2022

_______________

The trustees submit their report together with the financial statements for the year ended 5 April 2022.

Constitution and objects

Eternity Christian Centre Norwich (also formerly known as Earlham (Norwich) Christian Centre) was founded in 1991, the governing constitution adopted on 29 September 1993 and became registered as a charity on 9 April 1996 (registration number 1054416). The objectives of the charity are as follows:

Organisation

The trustees who have served during the year and since the year end are set out on page 1.

Review of activities and results

This financial year started with England in a national lockdown once again and these restrictions were slowly eased from May 2021 onwards. Church in-person meetings remained closed at the opening of the year and we continued to operate online. In-person services resumed on Sunday 17[th] May 2021 with our ‘Homecoming Service’ and have continued since then. It has once again been a challenging year for Eternity Church as we navigated coming out of another lockdown and started to slowly resume normal life after the coronavirus pandemic. By the end of this financial year we have returned to a fairly normal state of social interaction and in-person meetings, activities, etc.

We have had a fair number of people not return to in-person meetings but have also had a large amount of new families and students join since the summer of 2021. By Spring 2022 Church services were once again full and people are engaging in the life of the church.

We have continued to pre-record and stream an Online Church Service as there is still demand and the trustees felt that it is now a permanent part of our local and global outreach. We will continue to evaluate the effectiveness of this.

The increase in people attending has not translated into an increase in donations received but God has been faithful. While our income remains lower than previous years we have been able to meet all of our financial obligations and continue to support missionaries and various ministries. The monies in our savings account has helped in those months when cashflow has been stretched.

Our children’s work re-opened in September 2021 at the church premises and continues to function well.

Fuel, the Students Group has continued to meet. We have a large group of students in the congregation who engage with the life of the church.

We still do not run the Parent/Toddler Group due to a lack of volunteers.

TRUSTEES’ REPORT (Continued)

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 5 APRIL 2022

_______________

Connect Groups continued online for the most part, people being nervous to meet in-person in each other’s homes. However, by the end of this year, as we move towards Spring 2022, people are more confident and starting to meet in homes again.

Discipleship School was successfully run online again during the year. This format has been very successful and will continue for the foreseeable future.

Freehold property

The freehold premises, Eternity Christian Centre Norwich, Earlham Green Lane, Norwich, is owned by the Church, with Assemblies Of God Property Trust as the holding trustee. A professional survey and commercial valuation value of the property was last attained in 2019.

Risk Management

The trustees monitor risks on an ongoing basis, this includes identifying the likelihood of risk events occurring and their possible impact on the charity. They consider how the current systems of internal control might be further enhanced to mitigate major risks.

Reserves Policy

Where possible and feasible, it is the charity’s policy to maintain unrestricted funds in savings that equate to 2 or 3 months of anticipated resources expended. At this level the trustees feel that they would be able to continue the current activities of the charity in the short term, in the event of a significant drop in funding.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 5 APRIL 2022

_______________

We report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 5th April 2022, which are set out on pages 5 to 9.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts, you consider that the audit requirement of section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act) does not apply. It is our responsibility to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 43 (7)(b) of the Act, whether particular matters have come to our attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s report

Our examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently we do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
