I am pleased to present the Annual Report for Southall Christian Fellowship, covering the period from 01 April 2022 to 31 March 2023. This year has been marked by our continued commitment to the vision introduced in the previous year ‐ "Connections." We sought to deepen our relationships in three key areas: Connecting with God, Connecting with One Another, and Connecting with the Community.
Connecting with God:
Our pursuit of a deeper connection with God remained at the forefront of our activities. Sunday Morning Services, Wednesday Bible Study, and Worship Nights served as vital avenues for spiritual growth and communion. The congregation actively participated in these gatherings, fostering a rich environment for worship, prayer, and the study of God's Word.
Connecting with One Another:
The bonds within our church family were strengthened through intentional efforts to connect with one another. Fellowship meals following services and delightful barbecues on bank holidays provided opportunities for members to share in each other's lives, building friendships and a sense of community.
Connecting with the Community:
Our commitment to being a positive force in the community was exemplified through various initiatives. The Warm Space project, designed to provide a welcoming environment for community projects, has thrived in our newly renovated church hall. Weekly Coffee Mornings and our ongoing food collection and distribution efforts have allowed us to extend a helping hand to those in need, strengthening our ties with the broader community.
Global Mission Outreach and Thanksgiving Celebration:
In the spirit of our commitment to global outreach and encouragement, a dedicated team led by Pastor Jabez and Brenda McCall embarked on a mission trip to Kenya and Zambia during the past year. The purpose of this journey was to strengthen connections, offer support, and share in the joys and challenges faced by our fellow believers overseas.
The team from Southall Christian Fellowship was greatly used by the Lord to uplift and encourage the saints in Kenya and Zambia. Through various outreach activities, prayer sessions, and fellowship events, Pastor Jabez and Brenda McCall played a pivotal role in fostering a sense of unity and spiritual growth among our brothers and sisters in those regions.
Upon their return, Southall Christian Fellowship organized a heartfelt Thanksgiving Service and Celebration Meal to honour the faithful service of Pastor Jabez and Brenda. This special occasion provided an opportunity for our congregation to express gratitude for their unwavering dedication and the impact they have had on our church community. We express our deep appreciation to Pastor Jabez and Brenda for their exemplary leadership and service, and we anticipate continued blessings as we navigate the exciting journey ahead.
Lease Negotiations and Relocation:
During the past year, Southall Christian Fellowship faced a significant challenge as we engaged in lengthy discussions and negotiations with the Ealing Council regarding the renewal of our lease for the Former Southall Library. Despite our earnest efforts to secure a fair agreement, we were left with no alternative but to make the difficult decision to relocate.
The Ealing Council insisted on a 50% increase in rent, coupled with a list of extensive maintenance and repair tasks, estimated to cost approximately £150,000. The financial burden presented by these demands, including a new annual rent of £60,000, made it unsustainable for us to continue at the Former Southall Library.
Fortunately, we swiftly adapted to this unforeseen circumstance by securing a new venue for our Sunday services. The school hall of Dairy Meadow Primary School became our temporary home, providing a welcoming and conducive space for worship and fellowship.
Hortus Road Church Hall:
In response to the challenges posed by the relocation, Southall Christian Fellowship has initiated plans for the renovation of our old church hall on Hortus Road. This strategic move aims to make the hall fit for a variety of activities throughout the week, ensuring that it becomes a hub for our church community.
Simultaneously, maintaining a daily presence in the community remains a priority. Our commitment to the Warm Space project, Weekly Coffee Mornings, and food collection/distribution activities will persist, ensuring that our church continues to be a positive force in the lives of those we serve.
As we navigate this transitional period, we are grateful for the understanding and support of our members. The challenges posed by the lease negotiations have only strengthened our resolve to adapt and grow, and we look forward to the day when our renovated church hall becomes a central space for our congregation and community engagement.
Moving Forward:
As we move forward into the coming year, Southall Christian Fellowship is committed to building on the foundations laid during this period of change. We are excited about the potential for growth, the positive impact we can make in our community, and the renewed sense of purpose that comes with overcoming challenges.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each member who contributed to the success of Southall Christian Fellowship in 2022‐2023. Your dedication and enthusiasm have made a significant impact, and we look forward to the continued journey together.
