Leadership Report
Introduction
This is the sixteenth year of producing a printed annual report for members in which we
provide our reports, the accounts and look to the future.
Thls report deals solely with the events and activlties of 1st April 2023 to 31st March
2024.
Overview
In the previous year, the overall objective was to continue to build a stable structure for
meetings and administration and the slow improvement of the building. It also aimed at
encouraging the ongoing growth in the body of the church. As part of achieving this aim,
the leadership continued its search for appointing a new minister in order to bring a
vision for the church. In the year under review, these objectives were contlnued to be
given priority. Meetings, admlnistration processes, and improvements of the building
were addressed. The church has begun to grow in quality and quantity. Processes for
appointing a new minister were undertaken including job advertisement but as per
prevlous year no suitable applicants have applled. The leadership is keen to encourage
every individual in the church to become people who read bible, pray regularly and
develop their personal relationship with the Lord. We thank one and all who help out in
so many different and varied ways, all equally important. We all continue to appreciate
each other and thank those who support the varied activltles needed to keep God's
church functioning.
Benefiting the Community
The Objects of the Charlty are prlncipally to the advancement of Christianity. This will be
done by the declaration and upholding of the Gospel concerning God's Son Jesus Christ
the Lord and the preaching and teaching of the Word of God by the Church In accordance
wlth the Statement of Faith of the Assemblies of God in Great Britain as approved by the
General Council from time to time. In addition, the objectives allow the church to
minister into key areas of our society and the world and therefore allow us to minister to
the whole person for a complete answer to our societies needs as the Leadership lead
and resources allow.
In the ongoing work, we have continued throughout 2023 and into 2024 to hold a Sunday
service where the full Gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed, and people are challenged to

put their faith into action. Our obvious aim is to teach and train people of all ages from
the Bible in ways that are relevant to their age and culture, to be obedient to God,
provide positive input into their families and to be good citizens In our community.
A part of fulfilling our objectives Is a commitment to missionary and social work overseas
and in this country. For a small church we endeavour to serve our community well with
street and residential outreach.
We support organisations that specialise in Bible centred teaching, work with ex-
prisoners and people in the community. Our support is also given to those organisations
that provlde help with social problems and support people and children around the
world whose lives have been devastated by natural disasters.

Concerning the Coming Year
The Leadership and the church contlnue to be fully committed to pray for the
appointment of a new minister and ensure that a suitable appointment is made for the
on-going growth of the church. We will continue to advertise and make enquiries for a
suitable candidate.
The next part of this transition will be more fully owning of "Changed Hearts, Changed
Lives and Changed World.
Church Leadership and Management
While the structure for the church leadership development is now more detailed there
are other areas that are still under development. Like the previous year, the church
council needs support and strengthening. Other areas that need further development
will be practical as more people join the church.

Evangelism: while some of these events or activities are not for proclaiming the Gospel,
they give opportunity for interaction with our community and the availability to answer
questions. Community Interaction helps break down some of the myths about Christians
and the church. It allows our community to see the authentlcity of our faith and the
consistency of our lives.

Introduction
For the financial year ending 315t March 2023 our income and expenditure were both up;
see Table l. The total income for this financial year decreased by £3,845.
The total expenditure has increased by £4.266. The main increase in expenditure is due
to the building work at the church, and utilities and insurance costs.

I would like to encourage everyone to follow the Bibllcal principal of tithlngl and those
who pay tax to consider Glft Aiding their tlthe, which means the Church recelves about
250A back from the taxman. Also, an easier way to manage personal giving is to set up a
monthly standing order to the Church. We will explore the facility to glve online and to
text a gift as our society moves towards not carrying money.
Finally, I would like to thank God for his faithfulness and each person who gave money
faithfully to the work of this church In the financial year ending March 2024. 1 hope and
pray that you will continue to support the work of this church this year through your

Springs Youth Group
cofflmunily
YouthGIo'up,,_
The youth have continued to grow this
year, and we meet every first Sunday of
the month soon after the morning service
In the church, followed by a fellowship
meal. We have had a few welcome
additions to the group, they have been
such a blessing.
As before, members of the team led sessions on topics of interest including cancel
culture and how we respond as Christians, and we have had very interesting and
meaningful discussions. We had a series of discussions on various biblical characters
including Joseph and Jonah. We also had a couple of missionaries come and share their
testimonies and the vision God has given them to work among unreached people. The
youth have been blessed and challenged by these sessions. We have encouraged the
young people to read and study God's Word and have covered the books of Ruth,
Matthew and Mark, holding an informal quiz at the youth meeting.
One of the main areas of growth I have seen is that the young people have asked for and
prayed for one another. Some have gone through very difficult events in their lives, and
they have blessed each other through prayers and support.
They have continued to play an important role in the church. some of our youth have
preached in the main service, and thls is such a testament to their growth in the Lord.
The congregation has been hugely blessed by their ministry. As before, during Christmas,
we contributed an item during the carol service
presenting thoughts on various
characters from the Christmas story and their role in the birth of Jesus.
The youth got together for several social events including a barbecue and the annual
Christmas dinner which is the highlight of the year as usual thanks to Grantl
Our prayers and blessings on our young people as they grow in the Lord and continue to
be salt and light in the world that they will send their roots deep into God's Word and
build God's Kingdom at Springs Christian Fellowship.

Worship
As a Church we are extremely blessed to have such a variety of worshipers and
leaders providing a different style of music, leadership and sound that has the
capacity to appeal to different ages ranges and cultures.
Most recently we have seen a growth in the number of people wanting to be involved
in the Worship team, notably, Alex (All Nations), Daniel and Vanya. The age range
for our current team is between 20-35. 1 for one know the church is raising up some
passionate and anolnted leaders, notably Isabel who has now started leading.
Many thanks to brother Eric, who continues to lead Worship regularly wlth hls group,
alongside his other ministries.
We encourage individuality within our groups and love to incorporate the different
cultures / nationalities in our Church, with us sometimes singing songs in a variety of
languages.
Grant & Ernie continue to set up and run our soundboard every Sunday. We welcome
anyone who might be interested in learning this in order to help them. The same
goes with the projector which a member of the worship team also operates each
week.
Ernie & Grant- a massive thank you from all of usl
We have been struggling with developing damp issues under our stage which has
cause some issues with our Worship and sound equipment. This will be addressed in
due course.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who is involved in the worship,.
from leading and playing to singing and operating our sound desk and projector.
Preparing and taking part in the worship is a big responsibility and not something we
take lightly. A lot of prayer, thought and practice goes in each time we worship with
one another, so I want to express my appreciation for all your hard work and
devotion and may we contlnue to praise and magnify the Lord together.
A huge thank you to the musicians for their faithful hard work and dedlcation.

Prayer
We believe that prayer is the backbone of the church. The aim of this area of
ministry is to see the fulfilment of Isaiah 56
'For my house will be called a
house of prayerfor all nations
We need to be a church that prays together and develops this ministry to cover every
area of ministry. l encourage you all to be part of this vision. Bring your good ideas
and let us advance the kingdom of our God.
We continue to pray for a new Pastor and that Gods chosen person will be delivered
to us.

Faith Builders
Faith Builders has been running for nearly
10 years now. We meet once a fortnight on
alternate Fridays and have from 8 to 14
people of all ages most weeks. We always
start with a time of Praise and Worshtp led
by Immanuel. Then we share Prayer needs
and requests and spend some time praying
for these and for one another. Following
this our Bible Study lasts from 30 to 45
minutes, and then we finish off with a nlce
Supperl Although l usually lead the Bible Studies I have involved others in leading
them as well, and everyone is also encouraged to be involved with comments or
questions during the evening.
In the past year we have studied Glfts & Talents, the Use and Meaning of different
Numbers in the Bible, and then an idea that proved really popular was when
everyone was encouraged to think of a couple of Famous (or Infamousl) People in
the Bible and talk about them for a few minutes (or morell.
We also had our annual BBQ and for a change we also had a couple of Quiz Nlghts
which Isabel does for us, and they are great fun.
Providing the Suppers is shared by Christina, Grant and myself, and every third
FaithBullders, when Grant is doing the Supper, we meet at his house instead of ours.
The meeting is also shown via Zoom and we regularly have 2 or 3 people joining us in
that wav.
We enjoy Eood Fellowship and the evenings are clearly greatly enjoyed as the hardest
part is getting everyone to go home afterwardsl

Outreach
We like to call it an Open Alr and for the last 8 years we've tried to be a group of
Christlans having a Gospel Service outdoors. We have our own printed Song Book of
over 60 Gospel hymns and choruses which we keep adding to with new favourites.
We had been singing outside Keith lan's in Ware town centre since this all started,
but during the summer the owner asked us if we'd consider going somewhere else to
sing. So now we sing by the side of the Bridge near where the footpath starts, nearly
opposite the Neelakash Indian restaurant. I consider this a good spot for singing, but
not quite as good for preaching as people are walking past us rather than towards us.
However, there are folk sat outside a cafe within hearing distance, and a bench close
by, and we do have people stopping to Ilsten for a whilel
We all 51ng while Immanuel and l are on our guitars and Isabel on her saxophone, and
one or two people offer Tracts to passers-by and look for opportunities to talk to
both them and the folk who stop to listen to the singing. I link some of the songs
together with short Bible verses and comments and we also offer to pray for folk.
As well as the people who stop to listen, we've been amused as some have even
taken their mobile phones out to film us while we've been singingl
We always enjoy ourselves, and l am very proud of and grateful for everyone who
helps, because it is a team effort that couldn't happen without such support.
We also take Services every 2 or 3 months for two Residential Homes, one In
Hertford and one in Cheshunt. We have also made 2 visits to the Riverside Home in
Ware. The Resldents love our visits and join in cheerfully as we stng Favourite Hymns
or, at Christmas, the always popular Carols. Either Christina or I give a Gospel talk
and Pray for the Home, Residents and Staff and we also give a Salvation appeal at the
end and have been delighted to see over 20 of the senior citizens plus a couple of
staff - respond to receive the Lord Jesus as their Saviour.

PA / Media / Zoom
Covld and media enclosure changes: Subsequent to the events of the Covid
pandemic, the arrangement of PA desk and the media computer were revised to
facilitate social distancing. As part of the Church redecoration project, an enclosure
wa5 constructed around the PA desk and computer desk. This has led to some access
restrictions that have been partially offset by replacing the workstations with
cantilevered worktOP5. It should be noted that the amplifier located on the shelf is
heavy therefore for Health and Safety reasons it is recommended that children and
unaware adults are excluded permanently from the enclosure.
Stage renewal: During Covid, the opportunity of the closed church was taken to
replace the church stage which was riddled wlth wet rot at the back. All rotten wood
including that of the panelling behind the stage and partway down the south wall
was removed and replaced. It was found that although there was a proper vertical
damp course between the Sanctuary building and the kitchen extension, there was
no damp course within the Sanctuary wall itself and there was severe rising damp.
Thi5 was treated by installation of "DryRods" prior to reinstatement of the stage with
treated timbers. The level of the stage was aligned to the floor level in the lobby.
The door at the other end of the stage was cut down and a concrete plinth installed
below to prevent damp ingress from the outside corridor. This conveniently left
both ends at the same level and the stage could therefore be extended from wall to
wall without level adjustment. The stage was constructed with a heavy duty treated
timber wall plate on the wall to the kitchen and a "front edge" bearing on the
existing floor support pillars under the main church floor. Joists were place front to
back so as to be suspended over the entire void under the Sanctuary floor. The joists
were put in at right angles to this near the lobby door5 in case they needed to be
lowered for provision of a disabled access slope. A separate disabled access slope has
subsequently been constructed without making use of this feature. The stage was
surfaced with 22mm marine ply for durability and resistance. Carpet tiles were
installed on the stage with easily visible edging for safety reasons. As the new stage
ran from one side of the Sanctuary to the other, provision was made to run all
required cabling underneath the stage. The ring main was extended to serve new
double sockets at front and rear of the stage with single spur sockets at the centre
front and on the alcove shelf. Switched fused spurs were added for both the
external light and the digital projector.

It should be noted that the new dlsabled access ramp has been constructed directly
over one of the prevlous sockets, effectively denying all access to that socket for
malntenance and testing without demolishlng the ramp. The HDMI cable carrying
video to the Kltchen was installed through the wall and under the stage to the access
cupboard constructed in the old fireplace. The existing audio cable from the Kitchen
was left through the wall so it might be plugged into an on-stage feed.
Speaker cables were also run from sockets beneath the access cupboard up to the
speaker mounts thus permitting future renewal or adaptation of the speaker wlring
from amplifier to permanent cabling. To avold runnlng cables front to back across
the stage, microphone and auxiliary return sockets were installed flush to the rear of
the Stage and in the front of the stage. These were constructed as removeable
modules with pluglsocket cables behind which are loose laid under the stage and
should be replaceable. A block of four connectors were put by the rear alcove to
serve the radio mics. Three double sockets each
wlth aux returns were Installed at the rear and front of the stage respectively to
leave a total of 16 microphone and four aux return channels spread across the stage.
All these cables terminate at a stage box in the access cupboard permitting the stage
box to be used as a patch panel for the cabling. Rising damp to the subsoil under the
stage is badly affecting microphone and aux signals.
PA desk and stage box.
To offset the detrimental affects of the ageing analogue sound mixer, a new digital
unlt has been installed {Zoom LiveTrak L-20). This has provision for 20 balanced line
microphones {via stage box), two stereo line level inputs (Computer or audio
playback) and six auxlllary returns four of which are routed via the stage box for
foldback purposes and two are used to provide redundant signals to Zoom. The
digital mixer is equipped with Bluetooth and can be operated remotely on
sufficiently modern iPad. {Detai1s previously sent to Church Council). This would also
permit a separate Zoom operator to adjust the Zoom feed from within the
congregation. A separate USB dlgital audio box interfaces with the media computer
allowing analogue stereo 1/0 with the desk. The stereo amplifier predates the tenure
of this author but looks to be a robust and professional Mosfet amplifier capable of
many years more service. In an attempt to overcome or offset the effects of damp on
the PA system, the old stage box and multicore has been replace with a brand new
stage box and multicore. As this failed to rectify the issue due to high moisture
levels and low temperatures, the stage box has now been placed on a heating mat in
an endeavour to prevent condensation within the stage box. Though this may well
have reduce the faults due to damp in the stage box It can provide no respite from
issues caused by damp in the cables under the stagel A master switch at the back
enables the entire PA desk to be turned off with one switch.

Mlcrophones. Three of the orlginal Sennhelser analogue radio microphones remaln
functional. Two are handhelds and one is a tie-clip Lavalier. Two digital (Bluetooth)
microphone transceiver sets have been added to the radio microphones. The lectern
mic feeds into a high-latency Bluetooth transcelver combo which is not suitable for
singing due to the delay. It has advantages for quiet preachers as the delay
encourage5 feedback rejection. It has interchangeable batteries which translates into
an in-service redundancy. There is a separate low-latency transceiver set suitable for
singers and which can be moved around as cables fail due to damp. It has
permanently fixed batteries which means that transmitter and receiver MUST be
retrieved between services and recharged via USB to guarantee they will last the
entlre service. Mains power sockets wlthin the PA enclosure and cupboard have been
upgraded to those with USB sockets to reduce permanent running wall-warts. XLR
singer dynamic microphones have mostly been upgraded to the superior Shure SM-58
vocal microphones or Shure's Beta Green version. Spare Sennheiser and Samson
microphones are avallable for redundancy purposes. Condenser microphones using
Phantom power serve as drum kit and congregation mlcs. WARNING: PIuEging a
Shure SM-58 type microphone into an active phantom powered XLR socket will
generate substantial signal noise. Instruments are plugged directly or through a DI
box into the stage microphone sockets.
Zoom hardware. It should be noted that Zoom is NOT designed for Livestreaming but
as a vlrtual meeting tool. Thus, a lot of inherent features which may be built into
YouTube or Facebook livestreaming services (such as automatic Internet accesslbllityl
are NOT supported without substantial manual technical interventionl 1080P HDMI
video is provided by a domestic Camcorder. As the internal backup battery has failed
the camera has to be run in record to prevent shop demo mode from starting. Every
4-5 weeks the camera Internal HDD need to be reformatted to stop the camera
dropping out of record and entering demo mode. The camera has good low light
sensitivity and an effective (remote control) zoom lens. Camera audlo is extremely
limited, so an audio injection box is fitted to the HDMI line to inject an analogue
audio signal from the PA desk. A redundant feed for Zoom audio is sent via the USB
audio box next to the PA desk. Thi5 is necessary as update clashes can cause the
Zoom cllent to lose track of which audio it should be using. The HDMI signal is passed
through a USB-3 encoder in the PA cupboard which turns it into a 1080P USB web
cam, sends signal to the PC AND via a pass through sends vldeo and audio signal to
the Kitchen TV. Note that for this to function properly it MUST be provided with USB
power from the computer BEFORE either the camera or the kitchen TV is powered
up. The requirement to start the computer first is noted on the PA master switch. At
present the kitchen TV Is not properly receiving the HDMI signal. This is a fault with
the damp gettlng into the kitchen TV. The cables have been tested. A new
{lightweight due to bracket limitations) kitchen TV may be required.

Medla Projector. This Is a fairly modern unit wlth an output of (I think) 2500 lumens
and capable of handling a 1080P HDMI slgnal. The signal Is provlded by an old but
high-quality one-piece HDMI cable from the medla computer. Due to damp a USB
powered signal amplifler has had to be fltted to the cable at the computer end. This
may prove to be inadequate, and l expect to lose projector signal sometime during
the winter unless the damp 15 dealt with, the projector Is a DLP design which results
in improved brightness and contrast but which can be the cause of flickering if
projected image contains strong colours.
Medla PC. This is quite an elderly computer. It is fitted with the maximum memory
possible and is equipped with a small but very fast solid state hard disk. It runs
remarkably well all things considered. The internal graphics card drives the two
monitors by the computer. The projector and the back Church TV are connected via
a USB dual monitor adaptor. Other USB inputs include the HDMI encoder that pulls
in the video camera data and the audio injected into the HDMI stream. A separate
USB audio box next to the PA mixer feeds an alternative audio signal to the PC. A
"clicker" for slide presentation is installed on a USB extension cable to move it
towards the front of the Church. The small HDD means that the large Zoom files
need to be copled very regularly up to the Network. The increasing size of Windows
Updates can occaslonally clog the HDD.
PC Software. Easy slldes is old and fairly limited song software. Fussy about
monitors. The rear TV and/or the projector need to be turned on BEFORE the Upper
{Zoom)_PC monitor. If this is NOT done then Easy 51ides will define the Upper
monitor as it's projection monitor and IGNORE the projector and the rear monitor. It
Is uncertain whether this software is compatible with Windows 11.
