Middlesbrough Erimus Rotary Club carries out a range of fund-raising activities in the geographical area it serves. Fundraising is for general and specific purposes.

It provides funding, and the physical contribution of its members, to meet a range of needs, including support for those in financial difficulty as a result of poverty of human intervention. It takes full regard of the public benefit guidance when making decisions to allocate funds. In most cases, funds are provided to other charities to support their activities. When the charity carries out activities itself, it again ensures that this activity is intended for public rather than private benefit.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

In the past year, the club has supported several charities in line with the its general aims, including support for several local schools, enabling them to undertake a visit to a museum, which would otherwise be unaffordable for many children. Funding for this was provided by another national charity, Kids Out.

It has supported local charities providing international services, including funding for education overseas, and the local Salvation Army toy appeal. It has also increased support to Rotary International charities through donations to Rotary Foundation.

Members have also contributed to the creation of a sensory garden and leisure facilities at other local charities.

The club organised the Tees Heritage Walk in May. This is a walking event where participants can walk a number of distances, starting in Middlesbrough, walking along the Tees towards Stockton. The purpose is to enable participants to raise money for their favourite charities. The participation of Middlesbrough College staff and students in this event gave students the opportunity to apply the skills they are learning in the college in a number of ways.

Towards the end of the year, the charity raised £10,000 from a combination of grants and donations from other organisations, to purchase a software license for an educational programme that teaches pupils in schools about making better decisions and avoiding knife crime. The license was purchased after the end of the year, and members of the club and other volunteers have been running educational programmes in local schools with the aim of teaching them to avoid knife crime.
