Report of the Treasurer
The Treasurer, Phil Rees, was elected to this post at the 2022 Annual General Meeting and presented his report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ending, 31[st] December 2024.
Significant Activities
The focus of the activities that the charity teaches, voluntarily, all aspects of lifesaving/lifeguarding from the age of 7 years to 80 years and provides opportunities for volunteers to take part in lifesaving events as well as beach lifeguarding, patrolling duties.
Financial Review
Considering the Rhondda Cold Knap Lifeguard Club is one of the smallest voluntary lifeguard clubs in Wales, it is nothing short of remarkable that our turnover in 2024 was almost £37K. An outstanding achievement for all those associated with our Club. Well done all. However, there is a caveat here, our spending was £39K, meaning for the last three years, we have returned an overall loss of £3.7K. On the plus side of this of course, is the amount of new equipment we have secured, and we now own three industrial containers. Two for storage are being used for the storing of our lifesaving equipment and the third, is currently being converted into a Welfare unit. Work has started on this container and is expected to be finished by the end of January. When finished, it will contain male and female changing rooms, first aid and kitchen areas, but alas, no showers.
The final part of the grant awarded to us under the STRONG COMMUNITIES GRANT FUND, will be paid to us on completion of the Welfare unit. A big thank you to the Vale of Glamorgan Council, who awarded this grant to us for the third container and to Sport Wales, who provided grant aid to us for the other two containers, as well as new Nipper Boards.
Following us leaving the old lifeguard station and relocating in the containers, there was no way we could take all our lifesaving equipment with us, so we sold what we decided was surplus to our requirements and this brought us a return of just over £1.2K. The Christmas raffle went well again this year, raising £600 and a big thank you to Rhondda Rotary for inviting us to take part in this, as well as giving us a grant towards new hi-viz safety vests.
Future Plans
Our one disappointment in 2024, was the failure of the ‘Reef Project’ to take over the old lifeguard station to gain support from the Vale Council. Nevertheless, Sally and her team have not given up, so we wish them well for the future. Our future, now that we have a settled base, is to recruit new members and we look forward to developments in this soon. The outstanding Action from last year’s Treasurer’s report, is now completed and can be seen in Appendix 1.
