## **Old Moat Youth Outreach Project Report of the Trustees for the period ended 31 March 2021**

## **Structure, governance and management**

The project operates as a registered charity under a constitution.

## **Induction and training of trustees**

Trustees are provided with information on youth work and the work of the project. Trustees are given opportunities to take part in training and encouraged to take part in the project away day.

## **Organisational structure including recruitment and appointment of trustees**

The project is strategically managed by a committee of trustees and advisors who are recruited for the support and knowledge they can bring to the project. The project manager is responsible for the day to day management of the project and the staff and volunteers. The management of the Project Manager is undertaken by a nominated trustee with specific skills and experience.

## **Training and staff development**

All staff are taken through induction training and are Staff are encouraged to take Continuous Professional Development opportunities when they are available and affordable.

## **Aims, Objectives and activities**

## To:

- Provide youth programmes in the community for educational, recreational and leisure purposes

- Advance education, training and employment opportunities

- Offer learning through a wide range of activities such as art, drama, music, and media.

- To increase young peoples confidence and increase involvement in the life of their community

- Promote healthier lifestyles, in particular to develop pro-active projects that tackle the issues for young people arising from substance misuse, risk taking behaviour, domestic violence and anti social behaviour.

The project works with young people aged 13-19 years and offers up to three detached sessions a week with holiday activity during the Easter and Summer breaks

The Project leads the 20M21 Partnership providing coordinated youth provision alongside other voluntary sector agencies and statutory services. The partnership meets regularly and works with Young Manchester to provide a coherent offer to young people in the area.

## **Activities undertaken for public benefit in relation to objects**

In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charities Commission’s guidance on public benefit and the work was planned with reference to the trustees and monitored through the Trustees’ meetings.

The Project continues to offer a range of activities that meet the objectives of the project. This work is planned with young people and also considers the view of young people in the community. Partnership working enables the project to avoid duplication of provision and make effective use of limited resources.

## **Old Moat Youth Outreach Project Report of the Trustees for the period ended 31 March 2021**

## **Achievements and performance**

It has been a very difficult year and our initial excitement in gaining funding from Awards for All and on behalf of the 20M21 Partnership from Young Manchester was diminished our inability to deliver due to COVID lockdowns. Following COVID Guidance provided by the National Youth Agency we moved provision online where possible and then slowly provided ‘protective youth work’ on behalf of Manchester City Council. We slowly opened up when allowed by the law and by guidance. The staff and trustees have learnt to be very flexible and to adapt the work.

The challenges posed by COVID also offered some opportunities and the project staff made contact with students using the local park and started to develop a relationship with the Friends of the Park group. A summer programme under Covid restrictions was provided but the regular Little Fest had to be adapted into an invitation only Little Fest Mini. Our relationship with Unity Arts continues to be important as does the developing relationship with Community minded. Together we try and provide an offer across the area.

We have taken part in training on anti racist work, reaffirming our commitment as an organisation to challenging oppression. Staff and young people have taken part in Black Lives Matter activities and opened up discussion.

Our work to open a base in the Depot has been badly affected by Covid and we are still waiting to get water turned on so we can get into the site. This limits the type of opportunities we can make available to young people and we continue to pursue all avenues.

The Trustees would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff who have continued to offer a service throughout the pandemic as well as deal with the challenges it posed for them personally.

## **Financial review**

## **Reserves policy**

The trustees have managed to build up the Charities unrestricted reserves and are able to honour financial commitments that the Trust enters into for the year ahead.

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of**

## **Old Moat Youth Outreach Project**

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31[st] March 2021 which are set out on pages 5 to 7.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; and

2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
