BANGLADESH COUNCIL – SECRETARY’S AGM REPORT

Date: 4[th] November 2025

Dear Members,

Assalamu Alaikum,

I welcome everyone here today, especially our new affiliate members. It is a pleasure to see so many of you joining us to support the work of the Bangladesh Council.

Many of you know that I have been part of the Management Committee for many years, but this is my first full year serving as Secretary General. It has been a very good learning experience for me. I am thankful to all my fellow committee members and our community for their help, advice, and support throughout the year.

The Bangladesh Council is made up of hard-working, like-minded and caring volunteers who give their time to help others. Even though this is unpaid work, our team continues to show great energy and teamwork. Together, we have achieved a lot for our community this year.

Events and Activities

1. Annual Academic Awards Ceremony

We held our Annual Academic Awards 2024 to celebrate the success of our young people in GCSEs, A-Levels, and Grammar School Entry. The event encourages others to work hard and value education.

Tournament

We also held the Thana Cup Football Tournament with Birmingham Sporting Club. Teams came from all over the UK, and the event helped bring people together and build friendships.

5. Summer Day Trips

We organised two coaches full of families, for a trip to Barmouth Beach, in partnership with Bangladesh Multipurpose Centre. These trips gave families and members a fun day out and a chance to enjoy time together.

6. Committee Meetings

We held 10 committee meetings this year to review our projects, plan events, and discuss future ideas before this AGM.

7. Upcoming Event: Annual Academic Awards 2025

We are now planning our next Annual Academic Awards, which will be held on Sunday, 30th November 2025. We look forward to celebrating more success stories of this year’s students. Humble request to Bangladesh Council affiliates to join the celebration.

Financial Update

At our last AGM, we had total of £80.

This year, I am happy to report that we now have over £20,000. This great progress was made possible through successful projects, grant funding and careful financial management.

This shows that people and funders trust the Bangladesh Council to do good work and make a real difference.

Conclusion

The year 2025 has been a great year for the Bangladesh Council. We have worked hard, achieved a lot, and brought people together through education, sport and community events.

I want to thank all our committee members, volunteers, partners and supporters for their excellent work and commitment.

A special thank you goes to our excellent Chairman, whose leadership and guidance have helped us achieve so much this year.

Together, we will continue to serve, support and strengthen our community.

JazakAllahu Khairan,

Abdul M Choudhury (Shumon)

Secretary, Bangladesh Council
