Main activities

Rotary is a worldwide organisation of business and professional people that provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world. the rotary club of Dunmow meets socially each week for lunch. we arrange events and support many worthwhile causes both local and international

Achievements and performance

Money is received from donations and fundraising activities, referred to as unrestricted income, including a Sportsperson dinner, the Rose Bowl quiz, Santa’s sleigh, metal detecting and numerous smaller events. Funds raised are donated to local groups and charities supporting the local community, larger charities nationally and internationally as agreed by the club.

This year we donated £276 greater than receipts, dipping into club reserves.

3

Raised £10,117 (net of costs) and donated £5,415 local, £1,250 nationally and £3,452 supporting international charities.

This year a larger bequest, referred to below as Restricted Income and stipulated to be spent on community activity within a 10-mile radius of Dunmow, is routed through the new Collinson Legacy Committee. Received late in the financial year there was a single award before 30[th] June 2023, to the local Girl Guides.

Financial Review

Unrestricted income in the year was £19,202 (2021/22 £17,494) derived from fundraising activities over the year. At year end unrestricted funds stood at £1,616 after costs of £19,478.

Restricted income in the year was £300,000 (2021/22 nil) derived from a legacy / bequest. At year end the restricted funds stood at £299,500 after donations of £500.

The Collinson Legacy Committee at year end had been set up and was determining its governance, donation policy and how best to invest funds.

The Charity considers that no material reserves policy is required as there are no regular outgoings that it would need to be continually fund should income levels drop. Monies collected in the year are distributed upon the recommendation or the Community Committee Chair, trustee and the treasurer.

Independent examiner’s report for the year ended 30 June 2023

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of The Rotary Club of Dunmow Charity Trust ('the charity') for the year ended 30 June 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the financial statements do not accord with those records; or

  3. the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
