TRUSTEES’ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR ENDING 31ST DECEMBER 2021

Structure Governance and Management

Colchester Pheonix Amateur Swimming Club is a charity with the Charity Commission governed by its constitution adopted on 24th February 1996. This has been revised by the trustees in May 2017 and March 2020.

Trustees:

Theresa Higgins Hywel Edwards Nicola Lacey Keith Holmes Pam Edwards Michelle Knight (appointed July 2021) Rachel Chapman-Roberts (appointed Dec 2021)

Organisational Structure

The trustees administer the charity. Meetings are being held by Zoom on a regular basis. The trustees have responsibility on all operational matter, including finance and swimming teachers/coaches.

Objectives and Activities

The object of the club shall be to provide an opportunity for people with physical or learning disabilities to enjoy swimming. This will be done by providing teaching, development of swimming, diving and other water-based activities for its members and where appropriate, to enable them to compete.

The club is committed to treating everyone equally within the context of its activity and with due respect to the difference of the individuals. It shall not apply or endorse unlawful discrimination and shall act in compliance with the protections afforded by the Equality Act 2010 and shall implement the Swim England Equality Policy: and shall provide the above objectives with an emphasis on providing them to members of the Charity with a disability.

Achievement and Performance.

Our activities were curtailed for a second year by the ongoing pandemic. Government restrictions meant that pools were closed for the first three months of the year.

When swimming resumed, we still had to follow Covid 19 protocols and even those became more relaxed during the year, the club kept many measures in place for the comfort and safety of the swimmers. Unfortunately, the relaxation of the protocols in the venue and other places has meant that many of our swimmers have been absent with Covid. This has also affected the teachers and coaches. There have been some positive achievements.

TRUSTEES’ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR ENDING 31ST DECEMBER 2021

One of our swimmers, Mark Holmes was able to compete overseas and won several medals.

Holly Bocking has also taken part in some galas. All our swimmers were given the chance to compete in the club’s gala held in December. Many swimmers took part in a gala for the first time. Lots of personal best times were achieved.

The club has been able to secure a second hour for the teaching section. This has enabled the club to give trials and accept young people from the considerable waiting list.

In the pool volunteers have been returning to help individual swimmers. Luke, one of our regular volunteers have passed his level 2 teaching course.

The teachers and coaches have done a great deal of work in maintaining the activities for the swimmers despite the strange circumstances of the year. The club is grateful for the donations received during the year.

The donation of £1600 from swimmer Dougie Job was the result of the challenge of doing his own pentathlon. One of the challenges was to swim a mile. This challenge was taken up by teachers and committee members.

The club also received £1758.69 from Cash for Charities, this was run by the local newspaper, to help purchase communication aids for our non-verbal swimmers. The club retained its SwimMark accreditation.

Thanks goes to the committee for their continued support. Thanks goes to the Head Teacher, Tracy Cole and the Head Coach, Julie Jago together with the other teachers/coaches for their continuing work in helping the swimmers achieve their Goals.
