arti¢l¢s of association dated 5 February 1996 amended by special resolutions dated 24 July
1997, 24 October 1998, 25 November 1999 and 3 December 2013. Also amended certificate
ineorpordtion on change of name dated 14 Sep 2003 and 14 Nov 2018. The liability of the
members in the event of the company being wound up is lÈmited to a sum not exceeding £1.

BHI ivorks towards inequality in education: healih and 50cial care ￿=Advance the
education of people from marginalised and disadvantaged minority ethnic groups
Advanced and promote the healthy lifests'le choices and behavioural changes amongst
marginalised, disadvantaged minority communities.
Support individuals who have been affected by health issues thai disproportionately affect
people from marginaliseiL disadvantaged, miniority communitie5 and their families
through the provision of adviee, counselling and other support services.
Objectives and aetivities

BHI is a community Engagement Organisation which works to supply equality of access to
health and 5wial we provisions ivithin Leeds, the Yorkshire Region and nationally for
disadvaniaged and marginalised and marginalised communities.
BHI currently runs five projects under the umbrella of Health and Wellbeing:
Teena
e Health and Wellbein
is a project that aims to keep young people up to dale with
infom)ation about their health. We engage and motivate our servie¢ users regarding
education and work with them to develop healthy lifestyle ¢hoices. These progrnmmes are
broken down into four main areas which are social. emoiional. educational and physical
health.
Men's Health and Wellbeing is addressed through the Brothers in Life
BIL
ect which
provides physiological, psychological and prd¢tical support to predominantly African,
Caribbean and Dual-Herithge men who suffer from the effects of social, cultural or African
envoirnment factors thai have a specific impact on men's emotional and physical w¢ll-being.
Women's Health and Well-bein
encourages Il'omen to communicate ii'ith each other about
health issues that atTect ihem, support the development of health f<Kussed actiN'ities ivith
the Aim to raise self esteem, encourage participation in making infomied decisions aboui
their health treatments and improve women's health and well being cltywide.
Counsellin
and Mental Health Wellbein
which works with UKCP and BACP counsellorjpsyehotherapy
specialists trained specifically to work with the African. African Caribbean and Dual Heritage
client group. We strongly believe that early inlervention addresses the psychological and
emotional difficulties peoples are experiencing and may reduce the risk of later mental health
issues/crises occurritig.

Achievements alld perfornianee
Legacy Award3
Adapted io the pandemic by holding the event as a c105ed
Award C¢r¢mony for 2020 and live streamed. This captured an audience of £7.5k.
Blaek Music Festival
Adapted itself to the government restrictions and live streamed the festival on all social
media platfomis attracting over Iok viewers on the night M'ith a steady increase
continueing with the last viewer couni being 42k
Financial review
The net expenditrue for the year was £46,912, including net expendiwre of £43,526 on
unrestricted funds and nei expendffitur¢ of £3.386 on restricted funds after transfers.
Reserves policy
The charitys free reserves, excluding fixed assets: ai the year end were £44.066.
Black Health Initiative aims to keep reserves of up to i months equivalent tr&ding. This h&% been
lowered to refleci the monihl). outgoings which have decreased since the last financial year.
The reserve policy remains the same.

l - Accounting Policies
Basis of accountlng
The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost
or transaction value unless otheThNise stated in the ievevant note(s) to these accounts. The financial
statements prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice:
Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their a¢¢ounts in accordance the Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January
2015) and with the Charitkes Act 2011.
The charit! constitutes a public benefit entity as defmed by FRS 102.
Reconciliation previous Generally Accepted Practice in preparÈng the accounts.
The trustees have considered whether in applying the accounling policies required by FRS 102 and
the restatement of comparative items was required. They have determined that no such restatement
is required. As a Consequence, there has been no change io the accounting policies since last year.
No change have been made to the accounts for previous years.
Incoming resources
All incoming resources ae included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when the
charity becomes entitled to the resource, the truslees virtualls, certain they will receive the
resources and the monetary value Can be measured with sufficient reliability.
Grant5 & donations
Grants and donations are only Includ￿ in the SOFA when the charity has uncondilional
entitlemeni to the resources.
VheTe grallts are related to perfoTmance and specific deliverable, they ore accounted for as the
charity earns the right io consideration by its Ferfomiance.
Expenditures and liabilities
Expenditures are recogrtised on an aCcrt￿I b&8is &s a liability incurred. Liabilities are recognised
soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the cbarity io pay out the
resources.
Taxation
As a charity the organisation benefits from rates relief and generally exempt from income tsx
and eapitat gain but not from VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the cost of those
iEems io H'hich it relates.
Tangibl¢ r￿ed asS¢ts
Tangible fixed assets costing more than £1,700 are capitslised and included at cost including
any incidental expenses of acquisition. Gifted &ss¢ts are shown at the value to the charity on
receipt. D¢pr¢ciation is provided on all tangible fixed &8sets at rates calcuIated to write off the
cost on a Straight line basis over their expected useful lives.
Pensions
The charity operates a defmed contribution scheme for the benefits of its employees. The costs
of contributions are recognised in the year Ihey are payable.

objeciii'es of the charity,.
Restricted funds are subjected to resitictions on their ¢XF¢nditute imwsed by th¢ donor or through
