The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 December 2020.

The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comply with the charity's governing document and applicable law.

Structure, governance and management

The charity was established by a charitable trust deed dated 9 February 1996 by Justin James Cecil Coldwell and is registered with the charity commission, number 1052956.

The trustees who served during the year were: Justin James Cecil Coldwell Sir Josslyn Henry Robert Gore-Booth Bt. Andrew John Rattray Sayer

The powers of appointing new and additional trustees is vested in the trustees.

The joint trustees are responsible for the day to day administration of the charity.

The trustees have reviewed the risks to the assets of the charity and are satisfied that adequate controls are in place.

Objects and activities

The charity's objects are to hold capital and income on trust and to apply them as they think fit for purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the law of England and Wales.

The policies adopted in furtherance of these objects are to make charitable donations within the scope of the income received during the year. There has been no change in these policies during the year.

The trustees have considered the guidance provided by the Charity Commission with regard to meeting the public benefit objective. As all donations are made to registered charities, the trustees believe that The Lady More Charitable Trust is acting for the benefit of the public.

Achievements and performance

During the year, donations of £30,000 (2019: £30,000), investment income and interest of £13,443 (2019: £15,932) and Gift Aid of £nil (2019: £12,501) was received. Grants of £32,000 (2019: £19,000) were paid out to various charitable institutions in furtherance of the charitable objects of the charity.

The trustees will continue to support the work of charities or voluntary organisations whose aims fall within the objects of the charity.

Financial review

It is the policy of the charity to spend the income which becomes available to it, at the trustees' discretion, in furtherance of the charity's objects whilst maintaining the capital from which the income derives.

The trustees have power to invest funds in any type of securities in any part of the world.

Trustees' responsibilities

The trustees are responsible for preparing the trustees' report, the receipts and payments account, the statement of assets and liabilities and the note to the accounts in accordance with applicable law and regulations.

The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare annual accounts. Under that law the trustees have elected to prepare a receipts and payments account and a statement of assets and liabilities. The trustees must not approve the accounts unless they are satisfied that they properly present the receipts and payments for the year and the assets and liabilities of the charity.

The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which are sufficient to show and explain the charity's transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the assets and liabilities of the charity and enable them to ensure that the accounts and statement can be properly drawn up in accordance with the Charities Act 2011, and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent examiner's report to the Trustees of The Lady More Charitable Trust

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of The Lady More Charitable Trust for the year ended 31 December 2020 which comprise the receipts and payments account, the statement of assets and liabilities and the related note.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner and basis of report

As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act").

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
