SA Chair Report AGM Monday 9th September 2024

Welcome everyone and thank you for attending this years SA AGM. My name is Rebecca Etwell and I am the current Chair of the school association.

Firstly welcome to anyone new to the SA. We are a charity that runs separately from the school but with the support of the teachers and Mrs Day and the parents and carers of children attending Thomas Reade.

We organise and run different events over the school year and rely on several volunteers to keep the SA going.

Highlights of the last year.

The committee team were re-elected into post at last years AGM. We also appointed a new treasurer into the role.

Having completed a full year in post we approached our second year with confidence and were happy to introduce a few new ideas alongside the old faithful’s.

This included 3 discos, Christmas Bazaar, Easter and Summer Fetes, a quiz, and of course freeze pop Fridays.

For 2 of the discos, we hired a proper DJ which most of the children loved, following his dance moves – his energy was amazing. Some found it too loud so we need to be considerate of that going forward.

We introduced ‘Break the Rules day’ which went down a storm with the children, and the teachers looked great dressed as pupils! This event is definitely a keeper.

We also brought back the well-loved cake sales which helped each child feel involved in raising some money for their own classroom. The competition between classes was also fun!

We held a Hot Chocolate sale and this was very popular- something to run again once the weather turns.

We had our usual fantastic summer fete with lots of beautiful performances from the children, and another exciting flash mob dance. Finished off by an amazing performance from the Talent Show contest winners.

Again we used outside vendors and charged them fees for their stalls at the main events, which was an easy win for the SA and brought variety.

All these events were a huge success and fully attended by the school’s community.

Other fund raisers were non-uniform days, Christmas Card design, Halloween trail, bags to school, and selling food and drinks at sports day.

Regarding communication with parents, we have updated our facebook page which Helen leads on and use that regularly to advertise events. Zellah sends weekly emails via parentmail and we use class whatsapp groups to send reminders.

The SA have been really supported by the school staff and parents and its members are amazing at volunteering at the events and I would like to thank the SA members for all their input over the last year.

We would still love more members and continue to promote the SA via the class representatives.

Our main contribution over the last year have been – funding for story corners in each classroom – these all look fantastic and have really inspired the children to enjoy more reading. We also paid for the text drivers so each child can read along with the teacher in class.

The SA also funded subscriptions to history, geography and English topics. Also a large purchase of Art Supplies and a Maths Programme.

We always pay for the pantomime coaches and towards the visiting panto. Waitrose paid towards new football goals for the field.

A successful year of funding but nothing big in the last year, along with the cookery room hopefully Mrs Day will come up with something to spend the money on!

Now a quick mention to a few members. Rachel for taking a lead with PTA events, Amanda for the Christmas Cards and Alina for taking a lead with the catering of events- she is stepping down from this role so we will be looking for her replacement.

We have already booked in Boogie Bingo for October and Festive Wreath Making for November – 2 new events in our SA calendar. We have decided to drop the Easter Egg Hunt as we felt 3 fete events is too much and can become samey. It was also expensive acquiring the chocolate eggs. We plan to replace this event with a Wonka Golden Ticket event.

I would like to end by thanking Zellah and Helen again as we have continued to be a strong team that worked hard to ensure all events ran smoothly over the year. I feel we have had a very positive year and look forward to some new ideas coming forward this year.

The committee all need to stand down as per procedure however we do have one formal resignation which is that of Charlotte as the treasurer. We do have a volunteer who we need to put to a vote to replace her.

Rebecca Etwell

Chair.
