Sherwood Forest Community Church, Blidworth

Trustees report for end of year 2024

We have been a charity operating under the governing document ‘Model Constitution with Trust Deed for Local Assemblies of God’ in Great Britain. Our Charity number is 1052610. We claim Gift Aid back from the Inland Revenue for valid donations under reference XN71038.

The objects of the Sherwood Forest Community Church Charitable Trust are for the benefit of the public:

The Church Trustees in this period were:

Glenn Tyers (Chair), Mark Himsworth (Treasurer), John Bryant, Robert Rhodes and Lorraine Whitchurch.

Whose structure is:

Eldership – who watch over the spiritual welfare of the church and its activities.

Church Council – who meet quarterly as trustees (or more often if deemed appropriate) to consider all matters relating to the proper operation of the trust and its finances.

Leadership/Ministry Team – who make all necessary arrangements for the day-to-day operation of the Church activities including the running of smaller group situations operating under the Church banner. The administration of the Church is operated from within this team.

2024 Activities – a brief report

The Church undertakes an annual AGM with church members in attendance. This is done under prior notice to all to ensure the widest possible circulation. The next meeting will be scheduled using the latest accounts to December 2024 and this meeting is scheduled for January 2026, running alongside our vision meeting for the coming year. As is usual, the presentation will be circulated by Mark Himsworth (Trustee and Treasurer) ahead of the AGM and will include details of income and expenditure for the period and a summary of the position to date. The Church remains in a strong position financially.

At the AGM held in early 2025 on Vision Sunday Glenn Tyers, Church Leader, continued to expand the church vision. The proposed change of Church name and charity structure change occurred as of 1[st] July 2024, and this is reflected in the accounts for Sherwood Forest

community Church as of 31[st] December 2024. At the AGM the accounts were presented for both the ‘old’ charity (Sherwood Forest Community Church) and the ‘new’ Charity (Passion Church – Blidworth). Effectively not much altered operationally under the new CIO with many Gift aid arrangements from Church members being transferred to the new bank account for Passion Church. In addition, the regular support given to various mission charities have been retained but will remain under review to be completed by January 2026. The Church will continue to seek new opportunities to increase its impact within our local community. The 5 Core values for the Church were outlined again:

  1. Generous – Freely giving of our time, talent and treasure

  2. Relevant – Making God’s timeless message applicable to everyday life

  3. Authentic – We believe in journeying together and allowing people to be real about where they are at.

  4. Connecting – Connecting and reaching out. to our local community and wider world.

  5. Excellent - Aiming to be the best we can be.

Income has continued to recover slowly following the pandemic and credit crunch. The value of Gift Aid donations for the first six months of 2024 was £41199 compared with the full previous 12 months of £73140. Cash donations have not returned to pre-pandemic levels with a slight downward trend against 2023 receipts.

Glenn Tyers remains as the senior leader for the church, and chair of trustees for the charity. Glenn who had graduated in May 2023 is now operating as a full status minister with Assemblies of God. (AOG). He works part-time within the Church and is now supported by by Daniel Sunwar whose job title is Associate pastor. Daniel commenced his role with the church in September 2022, has continued to progress his training toward Full ministerial status – he is due to complete this training by early 2026. His skills have proved invaluable to the continued progress of the Church in areas of media, worship, preaching and developing networks in the community as well as with other Church leaders. The Church now has succession planning in place for such time as when Glenn Tyers seeks to step back from his role.

We remain active with other local Churches holding regular quarterly meetings in 2024.

Along with the support we give to local activities, the church supports several overseas projects financially. We are kept up to date on all these projects by newsletter, personal contact, and visits to the church to give personal updates. The Trustees keep under review the regular support provided to all the projects we support at home and abroad to ensure they remain relevant, or if they are strong enough now to support themselves; this may give us opportunities to support new projects.

We continue to develop home groups within our community to give a more personal opportunity for people to develop and grow in their Christian faith. The Church has continued to see a steady growth in the numbers attending Church on a Sunday morning as well as a deepening faith within the regular members. The commitment of the church leadership is to develop to the best of its ability strong links with other stake holders in the community to ensure all needs are being met. It is important to the church leadership that we are a church full of faith and remain vibrant through the outworking of God’s love within our communities here at home and overseas. We want to be ‘salt and light’ in our communities to help push back the darkness and bring the light of Christ into people’s lives.

The Church vision statement continues to be helping people to “FIND” Jesus, guiding them to discover that they do “FIT” into Gods family and that God has a plan for their life and that as they begin to “FUNCTION” with in the family of God they will discover and become everything God as created them to be. As we move toward 2026 the leadership continues explore plans for future church planting as numbers grow and resources become available.

The Charity trustees and leadership team affirmed its links to the Assemblies of God denomination and to be outward looking in its approach.
