## **Sherwood Forest Community Church, Blidworth**

## **Trustees report for end of year 2021**

We are a charity operating under the governing document ‘Model Constitution with Trust Deed for Local assemblies of God’ in Great Britain. Our Charity number is 1052610. We claim Gift Aid back from the Inland Revenue for valid donations under reference XN71038.

The objects of the Sherwood Forest Community Church Charitable Trust are for the benefit of the public:

- To advance the Christian faith in accordance with the Statement of Faith of Assemblies of God in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time to time may think fit.

- To relieve sickness and financial hardship and to promote and preserve good health by provision of funds, goods or services of any kind including through the provision of counselling and support in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time-to-time think fit; and

- To advance education in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time to time may think fit.

The Church Trustees:

Glenn Tyers (Chair), Mark Himsworth (Treasurer), Margaret Ford (Secretary) – resigned 31/12/21, Jill Johnson, John Bryant, Lynette Bryant, and Robert Rhodes.

Whose structure is:

Eldership – who watch over the spiritual welfare of the church and its activities.

Church Council – who meet quarterly as trustees (or more often if deemed appropriate) to consider all matters relating to the proper operation of the trust and its finances.

Leadership/Ministry Team – who make all necessary arrangements for the day-today operation of the Church activities including the running of smaller group situations operating under the Church banner. The administration of the Church is operated from within this team.

2021 Activities – a brief report

The Church undertakes an annual AGM with all members available. This is done under prior notice to all to. ensure the widest possible circulation. The meeting will be scheduled using the accounts to December 2021 along with draft figures for the year end December 2022 and this meeting is scheduled for early January 2023 running alongside our vision meeting for 2023. As is usual, the presentation will be circulated by Mark Himsworth (Trustee and Treasurer) ahead of the AGM and will include details of income and expenditure for the periods and a summary of the position to date. The Church remains in a strong position financially.

The Church’s vision for the future will be reaffirmed by Glenn Tyers (Chair of Trustees and Senior Leader) and is based around increasing our involvement in our local community. It is essential that the Church is approachable and that we become increasingly multi-generational and multi-cultural. Further emphasis as usual will be made about the importance of being a true Community Church and extending beyond our own boundaries.

The period in question continued to be badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and most income into the church was collected by standing order payments rather than through the more usual offering. Most mid-week group meetings were suspended in the early stages of the pandemic and only restarted on a gradual basis as and when safety permitted. Jacob Yeomans the Children’s and Community worker who had been on furlough through the pandemic handed in his resignation as we emerged from the pandemic at the end of the Summer 2021 and was not replaced in this financial period.

Glenn Tyers started to receive remuneration in September 2020 operating as the role of Senior Leader within the Church (and Chair of Trustees for the Charity). Glenn continues his own personal development through regular meetings with other local and national Church Leaders. He is currently studying to obtain his formal accreditation through the Assemblies of God – his official title is Minister In Training

Sherwood Forest Community Church remains active with other local Churches with regular joint services held though these were suspended in 2020 and only recommenced in late 2021.

As well as local activities, the Church supports a. number overseas projects financially and wherever possible people are normally encouraged to visit these projects to ensure a continuity in the links and accountability for foreign projects in using the money in the areas it is designated for. Regrettably, foreign travel has not been an option within this period however the Church continue to receive regular updates from the foreign projects in newsletter form. We receive regular communication with all projects supported.

In summary, the Church continues with its vision of Expansion looking to both increase in numbers as we emerge from lockdown locally as well as seeing the beneficial effects we can have upon our local community. We will continue to develop works that encourage young people and young families to connect with the Church. The Church eldership has a desire to work to improve the local area through link ups with the local community groups. The Church leadership regularly emphasise that it sees the Church as full of the life of God being outworked within our communities at home and abroad. The Church is alive in the Word of God, actively pushing back darkness, and accelerating light into that darkness.

The vision statement from previous years annual meetings on people coming into the Church being able to ‘find, fit and function’, continues to be restated as we look out into our community, and it is stressed the Church needs to help many to find a relationship with Jesus and for them to be part of God’s family to fit in and function in Church life. In late 2021 the Church started to look for a new worker to fit with the existing leadership team in bringing in the vision of being a

multi-cultural, multi-generational church. An appropriate person had not been recruited by the end of 2021.

The leadership affirmed its links to the Assemblies of God denomination and to be an outward looking in its approach.
