## **Annual General Meeting Summary for Year End 2023** 

A big thank you to all congregation members who consistently give of their time and resources to ensure that both the Church and all its varied activities run smoothly and successfully. Thank you for every penny given, every minute made available to volunteer in our various ministries or opening your homes. Without you, none of what we seek to do for God would be possible. Thank you to those who live out their daily relationship with the Lord Jesus at home, at work and wherever you find yourself in the week. 

We continue to be a family orientated church with respect for all ages and backgrounds, acknowledging that no one is perfect, we are all on differing stages of the journey of faith and all learn in different ways. 

Alison Heaton continues to oversee the Children’s work and we are continually looking for suitable helpers to join the children’s team as we seek to share the love of God with the younger generation. Treasure Kids is run weekly during school term times on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings in different venues.  GiG (Growing in God) is our children’s discipleship session which takes place during Sunday morning services. 

Pastor Daniel continues to lead the youth work and bring the life changing message of the gospel in engaging ways to the youth of our community. 

Sue Wallace continues to run Monday morning Coffee Club which remains very popular. We have continued our bi- monthly Lunch Club for those who are open to a unique presentation of the gospel. Again, this has proved popular and all available spaces usually taken. We continue to seek the Lord as we minister to the elderly population in our community and various ideas are being explored for 2024. We are grateful for the continued support of St Ledger Homes (whose building we use for Coffee Club) and DMBC through the community support officers. The garden at the communal hall remains to be completed as various organisations let us down during the year. The Environmental Pride grant remains which us, after seeking permission from the grant makers. We saw some real progress (free of Charge) on the garden just prior to Christmas by MWays, a construction company who give something back to community through their volunteer hours scheme and donating materials free of charge. We are hoping to oversee the completion of the garden in 2024 which will hopefully make it accessible for the use of all local residents for meeting and growing food and flowers. 

A six week Start Course, exploring the basics of the Christian faith, was held on Friday lunchtimes in October and November with food provided. This was well attended and we will consider if a further course should be run in 2024. 

Sharon Budhi started a new Life, Craft and Coffee Club at the Communal Hall in March on Friday mornings. This has brought the church into contact with more local residents. 

Pastors Les and Daniel continued to work with the local schools, offering their assistance in any way that would benefit the school. They continue to do school assemblies and lessons. Les remains a Governor of Edenthorpe Hall, a local Primary School.

The food bank continues to operate on a cash basis, taking referrals from the community and local charities, including local schools. 

It was a delight that a parent of one of Treasure Kids Club attendees nominated the church as his charity of choice, raising money by doing the 3 Peaks Challenge via Just Giving, to allow the church to put together quality hampers for families in Stainforth. With the help of the local Community Officers, Council members, local charities, schools, churches and the local DN7 Food Bank we were able to identify 62 families to whom we supplied hampers in the days just before Christmas. Thank you to the volunteers, who shopped, stored, put together and delivered hampers to local families. Our links with the local community increased and a great camaraderie was achieved amongst the team. Whilst there are no promises that this will be an annual event, should the church be able to do so we may repeat this exercise in 2024. 

Pastor Les serves as the Chair of Renew Doncaster Limited, a local charity which provides assisted accommodation to families who are homeless or at risk thereof. This charity is in the process of being wound down which will free up Pastor Les’s time to devote more time to the church. 

As a leadership we felt a strong leading by The Holy Spirt to have a greater presence in Stainforth in the coming years. It has been decided that at the start of 2024 we will hold a family church service once a month in Stainforth and much prayer and thought has gone into this. 

In terms of highlights for the year, these included our successful Mothers’ Day Breakfast, Easter Eggstravaganza in Edenthorpe, Stainforth Gala, coach day trip to Scarborough for our Treasure Kids Families, paid for from a legacy left to the church in the previous year, a Christingle Breakfast, and Nativities in Edenthorpe and Stainforth. Once again, we came together with our friends at The Church of The Good Shepherd to organise a Street Party to celebrate His Majesty King Charles III Coronation and host a community event on the fields of Canon Popham School. A great couple of days was had by all, despite the rain which forced the Street Party indoors. We were able to give away free literature, promote both churches and what we do and hold a joint service on the Sunday morning. 

Other events included a presentation by WorldShare, a local Christian Charity working with some of the most marginalized communities in the world, Compassion, participate in the annual Shoe Box appeal with Samaritans Purse. Volunteer staff underwent basic level 2 Food Hygiene and Professional Boundaries training as well as participating in a safeguarding meeting. 

Turning to the finances. The income for the year was £72,828 compared with the previous year’s figure of £110,001. However, in the previous year, we benefitted greatly from a legacy left to the church of £61,646. Leaving the legacy aside, overall income has increased this year by over £24,473, an increase in percentage terms of just over 50%. This increase can be attributed to several factors: an overall increase in giving from the congregation, with attendant Gift Aid reclaimed of approx. 17%, interest earned on previous legacy, increase in grants of approx. £7,500 and a huge increase of just over £10,000 in our annual day offering, all of which we give thanks

to God and to the generosity of the congregation. Thank you to all those who give faithfully to the church. Again, without your giving and sacrifice we would not be able to function as a church. Grants were applied for to cover a number of items in relation to our various community activities including a community celebration to mark the Coronation of King Charles III. Expenditure increased to £68,124 (£49,051). Increases were seen in pastoral services, employment for admin support, room hire and general increase in the cost of overheads, as well as increased spending from grant support and outreach events. This resulted in a profit of £4,704. We have met, and continue to meet, all our obligations as a church. The trustees continue to monitor the church finances carefully. The contribution you make is vital. Those of you who are taxpayers and have not yet signed a Gift Aid form please contact the church administrator. 

Our annual gift day raised £14,040 (£3,225) which is a significant increase. People got behind the church’s vision to reach out to its community and further increase our presence in Stainforth. A huge thank you to those who contributed towards the Gift Day. Given the size of the church here in Edenthorpe, this is a significant amount and shows your very generous spirit! If we play our part, God has promised to do His! (Malachi 3:10). 

We continue to serve the church members and the local community and will continue to be a family church holding out the truth of the Gospel offering a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. This is our mission and has not changed. 

Here are the areas in which we still require breakthrough: 

Breakthrough in prayer: Prayer needs to be at the center of all we do. I believe greater levels of prayer are demanded if we are to see all that God wants to accomplish in and through us. 

Breakthrough in Evangelism. Ask God to remove the blinds off the unbelieving and empower us and give us the courage to share our story. 

Breakthrough in miracles. Jesus and the early church’s ministry were marked by miracles. As is so often quoted that Jesus is our example on how to live – then miracles must accompany us. The early church saw many breakthroughs in many communities with a miracle. 

Breakthrough in discipleship. Pray that those who have come to Christ develop a deeper connection with Him. 

Breakthrough in church community. Pray that God would help us to live authentic lives with each other and give us deep friendships. 

Breakthrough in Mission. Pray for our local schools, local groups, counsellors, local Government. Pray that God will open new doors of opportunity and give us workers for our many and varied ministries. 

Breakthrough in Worship. I pray you will love God deeper, walk more humbly and serve more passionately.

I do believe, along with Paul’s challenge to the Galatians, that we will reap a harvest if we do not give up! Please partner with us in this harvest field. We need prayer and more workers to expand and grow. These are not the days to hold back, but rather to press in and press forward and take hold of that for which Christ took hold of us.

## **' Annual Report 2023 - Children s Department** 

Ministry to local children continued to be a priority of Life Church Doncaster during 2023. All our activities use a lively mix of games, songs, crafts and Bible stories to communicate the good news of Jesus to a new generation. We welcome children from all backgrounds and of all abilities and seek to model God’s love for them. We are very grateful to those who have contributed to the activities mentioned below on a regular or relief basis and to those who joined the team this year. 

## **G.I.G. and Tiddlywinks** 

G.I.G., a group for children aged 5 - 13 years, is provided during the second half of the Sunday Morning Service. This stands for “Growing In God” and reflects our aim to provide children with learning activities that help them to grow in their relationship with God, knowledge of the Bible and understanding of God’s purpose for their lives. During 2023, the children covered the following topics: “People who met Jesus”, “Easter”, “Prayer”, “God’s Great Guidelines – the 10 Commandments”, “The Story of Israel – Abram to Joshua” and “Christmas”. 4 year olds also joined the group when required – thank you to the staff for rising to the challenge of adapting learning activities to include a wider range of ages. 

Tiddlywinks was provided for 1-3 year olds during the last term of the year when required. 

## **Treasure Kids** 

Our three evangelistic after-school clubs for children of primary school age continued to run weekly in term-time in Edenthorpe, Kirk Sandall and Stainforth. Themes during 2023 included “Life God’s Way” - applying teaching from parables to life today, “God’s Story” – an overview from Creation to Easter, “Joseph”, “The Fruit of the Spirit”, “The Bible”, “Prayer”, “Moses” and “Christmas”. 

We were encouraged by a core of children at each club who are very committed to Treasure Kids and growth in numbers at two of the clubs. Once again we have had great help from a number of teenagers who themselves used to attend Treasure Kids. 

## **Training** 

Members of the team were able to attend a Training Brunch at Legacy Church at the beginning of February and were encouraged by meeting other Christians from this part of the country who are committed to helping children get to know Jesus. 

Some of our teenage Treasure Kids helpers attended our Young Leaders lunch and training afternoon in August. 

Adult team members met for a refresher about Safeguarding Children in August. 

## **Special Events** 

2023 was a busy year for special events that included local children and their families and built connections between the church fellowship and the local community. These included: - a Mother’s Day breakfast event, 

- an “Easter Eggstravaganza” on Easter Saturday, - a family event to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III in May in partnership with C.O.G.S., 

- a trip to Scarborough in July to honour the memory and legacy of Eileen Kirk (a former member of the Children’s Team and Church Council), 

- crafts at Stainforth Gala in August, 

- a Christingle Service and two Nativity Carol Services (at Stainforth and Edenthorpe) in December.

## _**Youth Group AGM report 2023**_ 

2023 saw growth in a number of areas in our youth group. From deepening friendships, new young people attending and young people exploring faith on a deeper level. 

## **A typical night** 

Our Friday Nights have a theme/event for the evening and then we have a discussion around topics of faith. These nights have included Nerf Wars; games; parties; minute to win it; world record breakers; water fights. Discussions around life and faith have included Fear; Jesus; Prayer, to name a few. These discussions usually last around 15-20 minutes. We have used Youth for Christ resources, which have discussions/games and activities built in around certain themes. Most of the young people who attend would describe themselves as non-Christian but with some sort of belief in God, but no personal relationship with Jesus. Our aim is to simply introduce them to Jesus and help them wrestle with their beliefs. We saw around 15 young people each week, with some others on the fringes who come on an ad-hoc basis. 

## **Trips** 

During the year, we joined with other youth groups for different events, including a fear factor night that involved a number of animals; a summer party in Hatfield; UV party and a Christmas party. These nights have been great opportunities for the young people to meet other young people from other church-based youth groups. They heard the gospel presented in different ways by different people and developed new friendships. We also took part this year in Hope Weekend which was a Friday night event and then a day doing social action projects. Our youth group joined with Bentley Baptist church youth group to paint the fences of the communal hall in Edenthorpe. 

As part of our yearly outreach we hosted The Church at the Cross from Orlando Florida. They went into a number of local primary schools and then finished the week in Edenthorpe running an outreach event, on the Friday evening, that 77 young people attended. I hope this will be a yearly outreach we can run with teams from the USA in Edenthorpe. 

## **Youth for Christ Interns** 

One of the great helps this year has been to have Isabel and Shanel with us on Friday evenings. Shanel was based here at Life Church Doncaster and Isabel was based at Bentley Baptist Church. Together, they would plan and lead sessions, building relationships with young people. This was a major help, having the extra staff meant we did not have to rely on already busy people in the church. These interns were great in their ability to mentor on a 1-1 basis. 

## _**The year ahead**_ 

In the coming year ahead I’m wanting to expand our work with teams from the USA and we are looking at Interns who will spend a longer period with us probably over the summer. My prayer is that young people would go on a real journey of faith, not just wanting to know more but fully give their lives to Jesus. We hope to work more closely with Hungerhill High School, which is a continued prayer request.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

## **10. Designated Fund** 

The Trustees have designated amounts that are raised at the annual Gift Day into a designated fund. The Designation of this fund was agreed by the Church Council. With some years 50% amount of the Gift day  was given to outside organisations with the balance being designated for outreach and equipment. 

Last year the trustees redesignated £500 from the Gift Day funds to create a new designated fund for Food Bank Project that the Church operates.

## **12. Related Party Transactions** 

During the year, L&S Enterprises a business owned by Les Budhi (a trustee of the Charity) received £10,714.21 (2022: £28,080.00) for pastoral services provided to the Charity. 

During the year, Les Budhi (trustee of the charity) received a salary of £21,643.84 (2022: £Nil) and pension contributions of £1,267.20 (2022: £Nil). This is for his employment as Senior Pastor. 

Also during  the year, Sharon Budhi (wife of Les Budhi, trustee of the charity) received a salary of £4,952.11 (2022: £Nil) and pension contributions of £33.28 (2022: £Nil). This is for her employment as Church administrator 

Also during the year, the Charity donated £900.00 (2022: £1,940.00) to Doncaster Youth for Christ. The wife of Daniel Budhi (a trustee of the Charity) is a trustee of Doncaster Youth for Christ. 

Section 10.3 of the Charity's constitution is the legal authority for the above transactions. No trustee received remuneration or payments from the Charity for their role as a trustee.
