Annual General Meeting Summary for Year End 2022
A big thank you to all the congregation members who consistently give of their time and resources to ensure that both the Church and all its varied activities run smoothly and successfully. For every penny given, every minute made available to volunteer in our various ministries or opening your home, without you, none of what we seek to do for God would be possible. Thank you to those who live out their daily relationship with the Lord Jesus at home, at work and wherever you find yourself in the week.
It was a pleasure to go back to meeting without restrictions in 2022 and being able to build on all our various ministries. We continue to be a family orientated church with respect for all ages and backgrounds, acknowledging that no one is perfect, we are all on differing stages of the journey of faith and all learn in different ways.
Alison Heaton continues to oversee the Children’s work and we are continually looking for suitable helpers to join the children’s team as we seek to share the love of God to the younger generation.
Pastor Daniel continues to lead the youth work and bring the life changing message of the gospel in engaging ways to the youth of our community.
Sue Wallace continues to run Monday morning Coffee Club and generally takes care of our elderly members. This remains very popular and a Friday Lunch Club started for those who are open to a unique presentation of the gospel. This runs approx. every 8 weeks. We continue to seek the Lord as we minister to the elderly population in our community and various ideas are being explored for 2023. We are grateful for the continued support of St Ledger Homes (whose building we use for Coffee Club) and DMBC through the community support officers. An Environmental Pride Grant of £2,000 has been secured to sort the garden out at the Communal Hall on Church Balk Gardens, which will hopefully make it accessible for the use of all local residents for meeting and growing food and flowers.
Pastors Les and Daniel continued to work with the local schools, offering their assistance in any way that would benefit the school. They continue to do school assemblies and lessons in many schools. Les remains a Governor of Edenthorpe Hall, a local Primary School.
The food bank continued to operate, taking referrals from the local community and local charities, including local schools. Given the amount of food banks that sprang up during the pandemic the call on the church food bank was limited. The food bank continues to operate on a cash basis and remains open as we feel that as we move out of the pandemic and other food bank funding is reduced, we will see an increased demand on ours.
Pastor Les serves as the Chair of Renew Doncaster Limited, a local charity which provides assisted accommodation to families who are homeless or at risk thereof.
In terms of highlights for the year, these include the visit of Chip Kendall in February, our successful Easter Eggstravaganza, Stainforth Gala, Preparing for Christmas event and Nativity in December. In addition, our famous Mother’s Day breakfast was another huge success with the community center full of church members and their families. The children from our various clubs served us well on the morning. We also

took a number of people to Sheffield Arena in May to hear the gospel as part of The Graham nationwide tour. Finally, we came together with our friends at The Church of The Good Shepherd to organise a Street Party on Church Balk Gardens to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee and host a community event on the fields of Canon Popham School on Friday 3[rd] of June. The sun shone and crowds came in force to celebrate, and a great day was had by all. We were able to give away free literature, promote both churches and what we do and hold a joint service on the Sunday morning.
This year we said goodbye to our last remaining founder member who helped start this church in 1984. It was a great honor to take the funeral of Eileen and celebrate her life with so many friends and family. She will be sadly missed.
Turning to the finances. The income during the year benefitted greatly from a legacy left by Eileen’s estate to the tune of £61,646, increasing overall income to £110,001. Aside from this legacy, income increased to £48,355 from the previous year of £35,216.04. The increase of just over £13,000 can be attributed to 2 main sources. Firstly, in the previous year we had issues with the way we claimed gift aid from HMRC, this was resolved and resulted in an increase of £7,871 and also an increase in grants we successfully applied for together with raising funds from congregation members in respect of aid to Ukrainian churches (£1,100) of the remaining £5,071. Grants were applied for to cover the rejuvenation of the garden at the Communal Hall on Church Bulk Gardens (used by Coffee Club), to assist with hosting The Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, and some assistance with youth events and Coffee Club. Overall congregational giving fell by approx. £575. Thank you to all those who give faithfully to the church. Again, without your giving and sacrifice we would not be able to function as a church. Expenditure increased to £49,051 (£38,952). Increases were seen in pastoral services, room hire and general increase in the cost of overheads, giving to other organisations and outreach events such as the Mother’s Day breakfast. This resulted in a profit of £60,950 compared to the loss for the previous year of £3,735.80. We have met, and continue to meet, all our obligations as a church. The trustees continue to monitor the church finances carefully. The contribution you make is vital. Those of you who are taxpayers and have not yet signed a Gift Aid form please contact the church administrator.
Our annual gift day raised £3,225 (£2,880) of which 50% was designated to be used for any new equipment we may require and any new outreach events we put on to engage those in our community that normally do not come to church. The remaining 50% was given to charities of your choosing who have similar aims to Life Church, which is the spread of the gospel. These being, Christians Against Poverty, a church plant in Mexborough, Radiators for Ukraine and a ministry based in the UK supplying medical supplies to churches and pastors in Ukraine. A huge thank you to those who contributed towards the Gift Day. Given the size of the church here in Edenthorpe, this is a significant amount and shows your very generous spirit! If we play our part, God has promised to do His! (Malachi 3:10).

We continue to serve the church members and the local community and will continue to be a family church holding out the truth of the Gospel offering a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. This is our mission and has not changed.
Here are the areas in which we still require breakthrough:
Breakthrough in prayer: Prayer needs to be at the center of all we do. I believe greater levels of prayer are demanded if we are to see all that God wants to accomplish in and through us.
Breakthrough in Evangelism. Ask God to remove the blinds off the unbelieving and empower us and give us the courage to share our story.
Breakthrough in miracles. Jesus and the early church’s ministry were marked by miracles. As is so often quoted that Jesus is our example on how to live – then miracles must accompany us. The early church saw many breakthroughs in many communities with a miracle.
Breakthrough in discipleship. Pray that those who have come to Christ develop a deeper connection with Him.
Breakthrough in church community. Pray that God would help us to live authentic lives with each other and give us deep friendships.
Breakthrough in Mission. Pray for our local schools, local groups, counsellors, local Government. Pray that God will open new doors of opportunity and give us workers for our many and varied ministries.
Breakthrough in families.
Breakthrough in generosity.
Breakthrough in Worship. I pray you will love God deeper, walk more humbly and serve more passionately.
I do believe, along with Paul’s challenge to the Galatians, that we will reap a harvest if we do not give up! Please partner with us in this harvest field. We need prayer and more workers to expand and grow. These are not the days to hold back, but rather to press in and press forward and take hold of that for which Christ took hold of us.

' Annual Report 2022 - Children s Department
Ministry to children continued to be a priority of Life Church Doncaster during 2022 and it was great to be able to run a full year of in-person activities after the restrictions of the previous 2 years. All our regular activities use a lively mix of games, songs, crafts and Bible stories to communicate the good news of Jesus to a new generation. We welcome children from all backgrounds and of all abilities and seek to model God’s love for them. We are very grateful to those who have contributed to the activities mentioned below on a regular or relief basis.
G.I.G. (“Growing in God”)
A group for children aged 5-13 is provided during the second half of the Sunday Morning Service. During 2022, the children covered the following topics: “Jesus the Storyteller” (a series based on 12 of the parables), “The Bible” (looking at why the Bible is such a special book), “The Holy Spirit”, “The Church” (from the beginnings to the purpose of the Church), and “Christmas”. During the year, the Tiddlywinks class for under 5s joined with G.I.G. as a temporary measure to help with staffing shortages.
Treasure Kids
Our three evangelistic after-school clubs for children of primary school age continued to run weekly in term-time in Edenthorpe, Kirk Sandall and Stainforth. Themes during 2022 included “God’s Cool Stuff” (a series about the basics of Christian faith), “Easter”, “Elijah”, “Designer Living”, “He Makes Sense” (learning about God through Bible passages that connect with each of our 5 senses), “In Touch with God”, “The Adventures of Paul” and “Christmas”. Numbers fluctuate, but we continued to be encouraged by a core of children at each club who are very committed to Treasure Kids. Once again we have had great help from a number of teenagers who themselves used to attend Treasure Kids. Some of them attended our Young Leaders lunch and training afternoon in August.
Special Events
2022 was a busy year for special events that included local children and their families and built connections between the church fellowship and the local community:
Orbitron – an energetic visit from Chip Kendall and his team in the February half-term holiday as we boarded the “Praise Ship Orbitron”.
Easter Eggstravaganza on Easter Saturday. Many local families spent the afternoon with us enjoying Easter games and crafts and other activities which highlighted the real meaning of Easter.
Crafts at a family event to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in June, organised in partnership with C.O.G.S., and also at Stainforth Gala in August.
Preparing for Christmas – an hour of free Christmas crafts activities followed by food and an
Advent service in late November.
Nativity Carol Service – which included an enthusiastic performance from children from G.I.G., Tiddlywinks, and the Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall Treasure Kids groups.

Coffee Club Annual Report for 2022
The Coffee Club was successfully started in 2021 following the aftermath of the pandemic which left many people isolated, lonely and grieving lost partners. The Church was challenged by a local Councillor to do something for the elderly in the community. We have seen during this period, many new friendships initiated, isolation and loneliness being tackled and a restoration of hope for many folks. Given our Christian beliefs, we have also been able to show the love God has for people, by our witness and service to this community. Some of the attendees have been introduced to our Father God, our Saviour Jesus, and our counsellor and teacher the Holy Spirit. We believe many such introductions were made in this year as we reached out as part of the Great Commission; Jesus said,
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit!.”
Putting on the coffee club every week involves a dedicated team of helpers from the church who turn up week after week to serve this community and make a positive difference in people’s lives and pray for these precious folks. To everyone we are extremely grateful, and we say a big “thank you”.
Tea, toast and many times little extras are served with love in the Communal Hall every Monday morning. People from the local area stream in. Some are on motorised scooters; some have walking frames and sticks and some just hang onto a trusted friend. Warm welcomes are on the menu, and we saw people change from frosty to cool, cool to lukewarm and lukewarm to quite warm as the weeks rolled on. Post covid hugs were given and received and it seemed like neighbours were indeed becoming friends as people started to share about their families, lives and current situations.
Several friends started to meet outside the coffee club for meals and trips out and more social interaction was taking place between the staff and guests during the week as friendships grew. Pastors Les and Sharon were able to visit certain residents on occasions and at times utilise the foodbank resources for those going through hard times. Lifts to hospital appointments were often given by members of the Coffee Club staff to those having difficulty getting to them. I asked one lady who has been coming regularly since the beginning, what Coffee Club meant to her and she said something like “We didn’t used to like the start of the week but now we think it’s wonderful coming here on a Monday. There is such a joy here, I can’t really explain it, but it’s made such a difference to us.”
In March we tried something new. Friday lunch club was introduced. The intention of introducing another session as well as the usual Monday mornings was to share our faith in a different way. The aim would be to tell folks more about Jesus by using stories and themes from the Bible, showing what a difference God makes in a life by sharing testimonies. We managed to keep the cost to £5 for a two-course meal and a drink. After the first one was so well received, we scheduled in five more, holding them once every eight weeks. The team took it in turns to do the opening activities and the talks and enjoyed showing just what a talented bunch they are. Life Church

Doncaster players were hilarious in their rendition of the Prodigal Son and the Easter Story was unforgettable and were thoroughly enjoyed by those present.
Our very own Tudor gathered quite a following with his renditions of popular songs old and new, which people were happy to clap along to, some were even happy to sing along!
Staff underwent training to obtain Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 which everyone successfully completed.
A highlight for the year was the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Street party which nearly all the regulars at the Coffee Club attended. This was made possible with the help of Doncaster MBC, the local Parish Council and members of Life Church Doncaster, and Church of The Good Shepherd. One woman recently told us she had the time of her life and a 100-year-old lady who had not left the home in a while came and it rejuvenated her!!
We have made many friends at coffee club and some have visited church for events, services and a birthday party. We continue to build strong friendships. This has all been made possible by the dedication of our volunteers and God working with us.

Youth Group AGM report 2022
The start of 2022 saw the beginning of the end of the pandemic which was great news. We began to run less socially distanced programs and returned to some form of normality. Whilst we haven’t seen large amounts of new growth in terms of numbers, it has, however, been a real opportunity for young people to develop their faith and build relationships.
A typical night
Our Friday Nights have a theme/event for the evening and then we have a discussion around topics of faith. These nights have included Nerf Wars; games; parties; minute to win it; world record breakers; water fights. With discussions around life and faith, including topics such as fear; Jesus; prayer. These discussions usually last around 15-20 minutes. We used the Youth for Christ resources, which have discussions/games and activities around topics. Most of the young people would describe themselves as non-Christian but with some sort of belief in God, but no personal relationship with Jesus. Our aim is to simply introduce them to Jesus and help them wrestle with their beliefs.
We saw around 15 young people each week, with some on the fringes who come on an ad-hoc basis.
Trips
In March 22, we took 10 young people alongside St Paul’s Church to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association youth night. They were trained in evangelism and heard the gospel multiple times throughout the evening with a Guvna-B event at the end of the evening.
During the year, we joined with other youth groups for different events, including, Tree Trekking and laser tag; a summer party hosted by ourselves; UV party and a Christmas Task Master night. These nights have been great opportunities for the young people to meet other young people from other church-based youth groups. They heard the gospel in different ways and from different people and developed new friendships.
Youth for Christ Interns
One of the great helps this year has been to have an intern with us, from the USA until July. She was undertaking a year out with Youth for Christ and based at Life Church Doncaster. She, together with another intern would plan and lead sessions, building relationships with young people. This was a major help, having the extra staff meant we did not have to rely on already busy people in the church. In September we welcomed a further two interns, this time from the UK. They were able to continue the work and help to disciple the young people. These interns were great in their ability to mentor on a 1-1 basis.
The year ahead
We are looking forward this year to building upon the relationships we have established with these young people. The interns will continue to mentor some of our young people, and we will keep sowing and watering the seeds that have been planted.
My hope is that we can build a relationship with Hungerhill School and continue the relationships we have established with children from Primary schools. This will give us further outreach into the community.
