Pastor’s Report

Annual General Meeting Sunday 7[th] September 2025
Introduction and Thanks
-
I can hardly believe it – we are nearly into my fourth year of being the senior leader of Cornerstone Christian Centre! It is with daily praise and thanksgiving that I stand in awe of God’s hand of provision over our fellowship. I am so thankful for the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:8, ‘And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.’ We have certainly found truth in these words.

Earlier in 2025, our sister in the Lord, Rene Parkin, received her eternal reward – in Heaven, forever with the Lord. She is now free from the many physical struggles she faced on Earth: ‘… no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old things have passed away’ (Revelation 21:4). She will be missed, yet one day we will meet again in Glory!

I continue to count it a joy, privilege and honour to be leader at Cornerstone and to be part of what God is doing in His Church. It is with excitement and anticipation we move into this new season for Cornerstone.

Personally, I would also like to thank each and every one of you for your faithfulness in giving, for your heart of service and for all your prayers and support. It is very much appreciated.
Events 2024-2025
-
Our main meeting of the week continues to be our weekly Sunday morning Breaking of Bread Worship Meetings. As we meet to worship, Break Bread together and are rooted firmly in the Word of God, the Lord is blessing us beyond measure.
-
Our Wednesday Weekly Prayer and Worship meetings are also well-attended. God is leading us in prayer, being guided to pray strategically for individuals, our community, our nation and for situations round the world. We spent three weeks Prayer Walking around the village: praying for God to breakthrough in the lives of individuals, for God to bless our local schools and businesses etc. as well as for the Good News of the Gospel to touch hearts across the whole of Teesdale.

In addition to our Prayer Meetings, many of us have taken part in an introduction to the Christianity Explored resource, led by Janice Dennis. This consisted of small group discussions looking at the life of Jesus in Mark’s gospel, meeting the man who claimed to be God and discovering how He changed history. It is in preparation for helping young believers on their journey of faith.

Our monthly Café Church continues to be popular with locals from our community, also serving as an encouragement to other believers in the village. We continue to pray for unbelievers who have yet to make the decision to follow Jesus.
-
Apart from these past couple of months, we have met together every third Sunday for our Encounter night. It has been good to worship ‘in Spirit and truth’, to seek God’s face and to ‘just be’ in His presence.

Growth
-
This past year we have welcomed three new members to Cornerstone, plus a number of additional ‘regulars’ who are now joining us to worship, seeking to further their walk with Jesus.
-
Once again, I stand in awe at what God is doing in His Church and how He continues to draw an ever increasingly diverse group of people together to Cornerstone. The words of Jesus resonate loud and clear: “… I will build my Church and the gates of Hell will not overcome it.” (Matthew 16:18). Praise the Lord!
Building and Renovation Work

It is with great relief that I have very little to say in this section this year. The refurbishment work in the building is finally complete and we are ready to open our regular community events in September!
-
Suffice to say, we thank God that, although the full building work cost well over £80,000, Cornerstone is completely debt free! We can only be thankful for His miraculous provision for the long and short term. I must repeat the words of the psalmist Asaph who states of the Lord (Psalm 50:10): ‘For every beast of the forest is Mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.’

On Saturday 5[th] July, we welcomed many people from our community to celebrate the ‘reopening’ of Cornerstone’s building. Although not as many tradespeople attended as I would have liked, a number of our families and friends came to show their support.
Community Links & Fellowship Events
-
We have been blessed to see how the men’s and women’s fellowship groups have grown and developed. Our men meet together for breakfast once every 6-8 weeks and our ladies also regularly enjoy meeting together in a variety of cafés in the area, to have a chat and to share life together. We pray these groups will continue to expand in the coming months, welcoming new people with open arms.

I continue to be part of the Evenwood and Ramshaw Community Projects Group , which aims to bring light to our villages this Christmas.
-
I am also continuing to work alongside local councillors and the Parish Council, who are all keen to work with Cornerstone to make Evenwood, and the surrounding community, a better place in which to live. We continue to lead the School’s annual Remembrance Service in November.

We really sense God’s hand at work as we reach out into the community. We continue to pray that each of these events will bear much fruit, where people will meet Jesus and be changed as they live for Him.
Ministry Team

I would like to thank all those who continue to be part of the Ministry Preaching team, taking turns to share God’s Word on a Sunday morning. I am sure you all agree, we are so blessed.

Late 2025 into 2026, we are planning to extend our weekly Sunday Worship Team to include other singers and musicians to support us when we gather to worship corporately.
Church Leadership
-
Once again, I need to share my thanks to all the Church Leadership Team who work tirelessly to further build His Kingdom in Evenwood. Their support and service, guidance and help are invaluable to me as senior leader – thank you for all your hard work!
-
As we move into the future, it is without doubt the Leadership Team at Cornerstone will look very different, however our heart and vision will remain the same. Our ongoing desire is to serve God, to serve the people of Cornerstone and our community, to see people transformed by the love of Jesus and in turn, to become modern-day Disciples.
Looking Ahead...
-
Last year, I shared about the possibility of church planting from Cornerstone. This is in line with the Assemblies of God vision and what God has laid on our hearts. Although this has not yet happened, the vision for expansion has not gone away. In Isaiah 54:2-3 are written these words, “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left…” I fully believe we will see an extension of Cornerstone very soon – let’s go on this missional adventure journey together!

I am ultimately reminded that God is not merely confined to a building and He is not restricted by what we can physically do or can’t do. I consider the words in Zechariah 4:6, ‘So He said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” ‘ I have always said we will do the best we can and facilitate the best we can for people to come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour. But, in the end, it is not about me or us. Only Jesus can save! It is not about our own abilities in the natural, rather, it’s about what He can do through us by the power of His Holy Spirit.

I feel that our heart’s cry is as one for our communities: Father God, reveal Yourself to our friends, our families, our neighbours and those we meet. Let us see the power of Your love drawing many to God, through Jesus Your Son. We thank You for the equipping and empowering of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Help us to be ready to share the Good News of Your Gospel in and out of season. Come Lord, send a mighty revival in our area, sweeping across every town and village. Amen.

’[20 ] Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us,[21] to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.’
